Professionally Graded Pop!

My initial question was if anyone has ever done it. I don't think it is necessary for pops but with some of the crazy prices out there it's topping a lot of other collectibles you would see graded (cards, comics, etc.)

Then why did you ask in the first place? It makes no sense to me... Also, what does it matter How much any of us pay for a piece. Astronomical or not. We pay these prices because we love these pieces and they mean that much to use. Not because they have been rated and they warrant a certain price.

But things like comics have been around much longer. There are comics that have proven their worth. I don't think an Action Comics #1 is going to drastically decrease any time soon. It has historical significance in addition to countless reasons to collect it. Pops are cute. They're characters people like. But they're a fad, just like any other toy. Their time will come to an end eventually. If you want graded collectables, grade something that has proven it's worth over a long haul. Don't grade the newest shiny thing, it's just cheating yourself.

To answer your question, I don't grade my own, it does seem interesting of an idea right now if you wanted to start and turn it into something like comic grading. It'd open up a different area for collectors. I personally choose to stick to grading my comics though.

It's funny to see how meticulous some people are about $10 pops that won't be worth anything in the future. The majority of the pops aren't rare and other than a handful of items, will never appreciate.

On a side note, I'll grade your pops at $10 apiece, I'll even print up a nice certificate for you haha.

I don't think anyone has told him not to get an item graded? However, a lot of us feel that it would not be worth it.

As far as the questions go lately... I'll admit I can get annoyed when all I see is "how much is this worth" type posts or "what will add value" type posts. This spans not only here, but on the 3 or 4 different groups on Facebook where people sell as well as on ebay. The forum is an awesome place and I would hate to see it turn into a site that's only about what someone can get out of a piece.

Since toy collecting is much more popular now and many collectors or MIB collectors the value of modern toys will always be less than a vintage toy where most people tore through the box to play and many times tossed the box simply because the supply out weighs the demand. If you have a full set of Star Wars 12 backs on card I would get those graded because supply is extremely low and near mint is hard to find and value between graded and non graded would justify the cost of grading in the first place.

Has anyone ever graded a Pop professionaly through a PSA/DNA type of company? Just curious because I have never seen one before.

For resale value I have had some figs graded but vintage toys on modern releases would not be worth it. Mint on card he man vintage release for sure sorcerer funko Mickey not so much

In the last couple of weeks, many new posts by new members have been focused on resale value.

Unfortunately, with Funkos growing popularity, there are going to be more and more people looking to make a quick buck. I've noticed it in the last 6 months of so, everyone is quick to find out what a certain piece will be worth or what will be the most popular.....The newer members don't even know that sub-section exists, and the members who frequent there don't seem to be focused too much on the monetary value of pieces...

There is some validity to this point. You could always keep photos of your collection and the receipts for what you've paid. You can also keep a history of prices these pieces have sold for.

With as many out of box collector's I can only imagine how many pieces that have been graded would then get taken out of box because of how people display.

To be fair, other reasons they listed for grading that does not peg them as being a "no good dirty flipper" are

by carefully sealing your toys from further contact and limiting exposure to the elements.


Not so far fetched that someone would choose to do so with regards to a highly sought after, rare, and expensive piece.

Thank you for that. I do have a 1/12 pop that I would consider grading BUT was more curious if someone has done it. I'm not looking to sell any of my pops nor am I looking to increase there value. Hell I've paid way over the value for some pops because that's what a collector does. I own the largest collectibles shop in NH and the last thing I want to do is flip or sell my personal collection or value my hobby. Honestly, I flip signs and gas pumps for 10's of thousands of dollars and wouldn't bother with a $10 or even a $1000 pop. I'm here to talk pop and meet some like minded collectors.

The 1/12 Freddy RV Walker is a really cool piece. Congrats on getting that one!

If you decide to have it graded I would be curious in how it ends up looking and fitting into a collection.

The biggest thing I saw that could make it worth having graded is having a something like a Metallic 1/12 piece graded so you can have the UV protection added to the case. Besides that, I would rather have the piece out and free. I've been working on some designs for a custom display case and one of the first things I would have done is to buy either some Museum Glass or at a minimum add some UV film to some regular glass. That way you can keep the Metallic paint protected and have it semi-dustproof.

Custom cases are very pricey. I have been using stackable NASCAR acrylic cases for now. I can fit three to a case comfortably. Just stinks for pointy ear pieces or ones with hats or crazy hair.
