In all reality. It would be a waste of money to have these professionally graded. The collector community for Funko does not care about having a graded box/toy.

Think the grading fee would be more than what the toy is worth.

Grading any type of collectible is expensive but I could see it for 1/12, 1/48, or really rare items like A Clockwork Orange Alex figure. It just adds another dimension to the hobby.

That'd be such a waste of money in my opinion. Granted I think getting comics newer than at least Silver age is a waste for the most part but maybe that's just me...

For resale value I have had some figs graded but vintage toys on modern releases would not be worth it. Mint on card he man vintage release for sure sorcerer funko Mickey not so much

My opinion could change when it comes to the new ReAction and Legacy action figures. I'll stand strong on Pops never being worth having graded. The beauty of the Pop packaging is that it allows you to remove the toy and also put it back in while keeping a mint $10 toy/package.

The other problem is these wont hold their value over the long haul. Old time funko collectors saw wobbler values tumble. I remember people paying the same crazy money for wobblers at one time. Like others have mentioned Beanie Babies did the same thing. Pops will tumble as well it is only a matter of time. I personally don't think it will be any time soon but it will happen.

I agree with you Ken except with the new ReAction and Legacy action figures coming soon Pop may go by the wayside sooner than expected

I don't see that happening really. The ReAction/Legacy lines are just going to bring in a new type of collector. Funko is just going to explode in popularity even more.

I don't think reaction and legacy will replace POP. There's a very different appeal-cute and chibi vs highly detailed figures. Plus I'm guessing noticeably different price points. Pops are around $10 on average which is a magic #-nice and even and afforadable. Get closer to $20 an people are more hesitant. Above $20, it's above what the average person wants to spend on a "everyday" toy.

If you're going to grade Pop, why stop there. Grade your cereal and pop tart boxes and anything else you buy in a package, because all you're collecting at that point is boxes.

I look at it 10 things for $100 or 5 for $100. I'm going with the quantity as long as they are appealing and pops are def appealing and cool little guys & gals.

"How much is this worth?"
Collecting shouldn't be about resale value. If you're only collecting for that you should go elsewhere. As mentioned already, POP! may lose their value. So let's enjoy our pieces for what they are not how much they value costwise.

Unfortunately, with Funkos growing popularity, there are going to be more and more people looking to make a quick buck. I've noticed it in the last 6 months of so, everyone is quick to find out what a certain piece will be worth or what will be the most popular. This very reason has left me leaning towards Wobblers. The newer members don't even know that sub-section exists, and the members who frequent there don't seem to be focused too much on the monetary value of pieces (just my two cents), it's more about the history behind the pieces.

Getting something graded for a measurement of quality doesn't necessarily reflect a value. It's more of an appreciation for the piece. Most things graded don't have a true value nor do they come with a value once graded.

If that's true, why grade it? Can't you tell if it's in good shape?
Grading is for resale value. Not saying I'm against grading, just not for pops.

Re: Professionally Graded Pop!
My initial question was if anyone has ever done it. I don't think it is necessary for pops but with some of the crazy prices out there it's topping a lot of other collectibles you would see graded (cards, comics, etc.)

Then why did you ask in the first place? It makes no sense to me...
Also, what does it matter How much any of us pay for a piece. Astronomical or not. We pay these prices because we love these pieces and they mean that much to use. Not because they have been rated and they warrant a certain price.Stacey

But things like comics have been around much longer. There are comics that have proven their worth. I don't think an Action Comics #1 is going to drastically decrease any time soon. It has historical significance in addition to countless reasons to collect it. Pops are cute. They're characters people like. But they're a fad, just like any other toy. Their time will come to an end eventually. If you want graded collectables, grade something that has proven it's worth over a long haul. Don't grade the newest shiny thing, it's just cheating yourself.

Why are we questioning Billp on how he chooses to analyze figures? If he wants to grade them then let him. Some people collect, some people flip, some people create, it's a perfectly fine question.
To answer your question, I don't grade my own, it does seem interesting of an idea right now if you wanted to start and turn it into something like comic grading. It'd open up a different area for collectors. I personally choose to stick to grading my comics though.

Are you here to flip or collect?
Grading seems like an attempt to add perceived value in order to flip a toy. This is a community about collecting.... not flipping.

It's funny to see how meticulous some people are about $10 pops that won't be worth anything in the future. The majority of the pops aren't rare and other than a handful of items, will never appreciate.
On a side note, I'll grade your pops at $10 apiece, I'll even print up a nice certificate for you haha.
