Pretty much option one. They wanted it to look new. :rolleyes:

The 52 part refers to the fact that when DC rebooted after the FLASHPOINT storyline, they rebooted with 52 comic series.

The New 52 is a 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero books, in which all of its existing titles were cancelled, and fifty-two new series debuted in September 2011 with new first issues

Basically, the whole DC universe was reset, and super heroes have only been around for about 5 year.. Wierd. Every superhero started over completely, except batman, who now has all the same history, but has only been batman for 5 years #-o

Oh New 52, I loved the old universe but I do like some of the New 52 funkos...just not Batman's.

As far as the best Batman, definitely anything in the 9 inch category because they're huge. I don't have one yet but it's definitely on my birthday list.

Personally I like the SDCC Patina Batman. I have a soft spot for vintage looking things and the paint on this figure reminds me of an old bronze statue.

The new 52 is a DC reboot that made my favorite characters like Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown disappear, broke up Clark and Lois and made catwoman not know batmans identity. So I have problems with it.

they are indeed the same. At SDCC the clamshell version came out and the line was called Funko Force 2.0 , then, very shortly after the con the named changed to Pop! and they were repackaged in boxes.
