POP! That have the worst paint errors

Postby OpTicDi3seL » Tue Jan 22, 2013 1:53 am

What POP! have you seen have the most frequent and glaring paint issues? For me its got to be X-Wing Luke and Captain America (non Avengers). I have seen about 15 Cap's and 8 Xwing's and they all have issues :(

My two SDCC Cheshire Cats both look like a 5 year old painted them. They are truly a new low for paint jobs.

I have been wondering do I just get them regardless? Or tough it out for a correct one? IDN who they have painting their stuff. Its lame to hear even the limited editions are all jacked up as well :( I have gone over some of my early purchases and will be finding replacements for them ASAP. My OCD is not good for my POP collection lol.

Think about it because Funko gets them made in China or Vietnam from some of the bottom of the boxes that I have seen and we know they use child labor there so I wouldn't be surprised if it was painted by a 5 years old or something like that. Cheap labor

the black stripes on tigger... usually one of them is smudged or something. and in the "i'm being way too picky" department, i've found that most wall-e figures have badly applied "wall-e" logos on the front, with the E being vertically misaligned with the WALL.

and anything metallic -- chases, exclusives, whatever -- the paint is often uneven or applied differently to different parts of the body. metallic chernabog is probably the best example, with the head being lighter than the body (or was it the other way around?)

I think Funko has made huge improvements in paint, walking dead and game of thrones pops were near flawless!

A lot of the mini pop sets had pretty bad paint.

The first few shipments of game of thrones my store got had awful paint jobs in the details, especially Khal Dragos tattoos. They've been much better lately.

On a softer note, has anybody had any paint issues with their Elf on the Shelf? All of the ones I found in Maryland (and I searched all over) have a white paint line going under his hat. It is pretty noticable. It was either live with it or not get him. I choose to enjoy him the way he was...

I have never found a good Maleficent....makes since though, she is evil. I also agree about the Cheshire cat. It took me 4 states and 7 Disney stores to find one that was fine enough. I do agree that some of the newer pops are looking better though.

Peter Pan is the worst. The inside of his elbow is always green. Have never seen a good one.

The worst is probably Batman for me. Just because his symbol is not even centered in his chest. I'll just throw this out there but the best one for sure is the Hulk for me. Since there isn't really much to him, I'm assuming he's easier to paint than the others and looks awesome!

I just want to be clear that I'm making fun of the bad paint jobs and the use of cheap labor. If anyone is offended, I apologize.

Pretty much everywhere I went Sandor got the worst deal with the paint job out of the Thrones guys. Like smeared faces or a chunk of his eyes would be painted over with skin tone.

And I get that these are mass-produced, but so are most toys. And given the simplified nature of the figures you'd assume that painting would be easier than something super detailed from NECA. I can't imagine it would be that much expensive to step up the quality control.

They should put extra care into the detail of rare or limited edition figures ]:

Mine is Captain Hook. That feather in his hat had rubbed against the top of the hat leaving a pink/lavender line on top. I didn't see it until I opened the box but don't really care since it probably happens with ones like that.
Not a paint problem but on my Wreck-It Ralph, the paint is slightly cracking on his nose like too thin a layer was applied. Also on his left arm is a molding issue where it looks like a clump of fleshy hair. And this was the best looking one I had seen in the store since the others had a tiny paint smudge or the paint looked slightly off.
Disney Wish list: Mickey Mouse, Buzz, Sully, Mike, Tinker Bell x2.
