Started collecting after finding them at a thrift store.

Postby ddldave » Sat Jun 02, 2012 4:29 pm

Hey you guys, I have a Captain America, Spider-Man, Green Lantern, and The Joker bobbleheads after finding them at a thrift store for 5 bucks each. I recently just ordered more from Amazon for a little over 10 bucks each. I ordered The Thing, The Hulk, Wolverine, and Iron Man.

I have a question though, how come I can't find any other DC bobbleheads (They're all figurines), my Green Lantern and The Joker are bobbleheads...

The bobble DC Pops are old school. Hold on to those. I saw a listing this week for 50 bucks for a bobblehead Joker.

Welcome aboard!

Only 7 of the DC characters are bobbleheads -- Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Penguin, Joker, Superman, Green Lantern. They were exclusive to Target stores, but Target doesn't carry the DC ones anymore, so these ones have become more scarce. Target frequently donates items to thrift stores when they don't sell at clearance, so it doesn't surprise me that some have shown up there now.

These 7 characters are also available as figures, too. They're sold as figures at every other store, with the rest of the DC lineup. In addition, the Toy Story characters -- Woody, Buzz, Lotso, Jessie -- are also available as both figures and bobbleheads. (Zurg and the Alien are currently only available as figures, but they'll be released as bobbleheads later this summer, presumably.)

And just because the DC bobbleheads are scarce, I wouldn't put too much stock in that $50 Joker price. That auction has been listed a few times now, and it never sells. I've seen DC bobbleheads go for $4 before. The fact is, for the characters that come as both bobblehead and figure, most collectors only want one version, and they want to stay consistent. Since all the other Disney/DC characters are figures, the bobblehead versions tend to be less desired... even if they're more rare, as is the case with the DC ones. (For Toy Story characters, the figures are actually more rare.)

I think I've become this board's resident expert on the bobblehead/figure topic, as I'm one of a small few looking for both versions of characters. Again, most collectors just don't care. That said, if you see a Batman, Batgirl or Penguin that bobbles... please send me a PM!

Thanks guys, I am going to start just buying off the DC figurines that I don't have aside from the bobblehead ones, although it'll seem inconsistent, can't really do much about it. I really want the Red Skull bobblehead but it's kinda pricey, so I'll have to save that for next paycheck =P

i think this is the most recent thread where i've talked about figures/bobbleheads...

i sent a PM to brian to get some more info, and just got back a response. the bobbleheads for penguin and batgirl were never actually released. so it's only five DC characters available as both figures and bobbleheads -- batman, robin, joker, superman, green lantern. i know there's only a handful of people who care, but... it's always good to know what's out there!

I just a green lantern bobble head from ebay and the box came smashed. Kind of upsetting. You got me into the bobble heads Doc. Now I need 4 more. I'm looking, so if I find Batman, I'll let you know.
