In or Out of Box?

Postby Benavent Pop! » Mon May 28, 2012 6:34 am

This topic was posted in funkofunatic.com last September by Todd and I thought will be nice to also open it on this forum.
In my opinion, in the box:
Image
My reasons:
1) Pop!'s box art is beautiful
2) Keep figures away from dust
3) Easy to display
4) Love limited edition stickers (tells a little more about each figure)
5) All boxes have the same size
6) Best Wallpaper in the world ;-)

That looks so awesome, Vincent! I think they look awesome in the box, but if you don't have the space they're equally awesome out! I personally don't have the room to keep them in the boxes :( I agree with you about the box art! I love it! Ideally I'd love to have mine displayed out of the box with the box behind them sideways so you can see the full image of them on the side of the box behind the Pop! (Does that make sense? haha). I like being able to pick up my Pop and have a look at the whole figure, so I'm an out of the box kind of gal :P

Your display looks super awesome like that! Definitely like it's fancy wallpaper.

I prefer most of mine out of the box. You miss out on a lot of detail and Pop cuteness in the box. Such as, The Penguin's umbrella, George Sanderson's sock, and Loki's bad azz helmet.

I am an in the box kind of person. In fact right now all of my toys are in their boxes, which are inside larger boxes, which are locked inside a larger box (storage unit). YAY for boxes.

In or Out of Box?

Postby Forte82 » Mon May 28, 2012 9:37 am

Typically I'm an in the box person but in this case I took them out. They aren't factory sealed or anything so I don't believe there is any value in the box. If they came factory sealed I would NEVER open them. It's also a space saver if you let them breathe and as long as nobody messes with them they should stay in good shape. Although I do keep them out of direct sunlight and dust them often!

I'm usually an "in the box" guy with collectables... but these figures I love having them out of the box! However, I don't neglect my boxes. I like having them in my display for my Pop!s as well! The box art is nothing short of fantastic, so why would anyone hide it? I have mine displayed standing in front of their boxes.

I have them stored in the box for now, until I get the time/space/money for a proper out-of-box display.

I like to keep mine in the box due to spacing. I wish that I had more space to display them with the box in the background. I don't think I would take any variants out of the box though.

Ugh! I NEED a Boo SOOOOOOO BAD!!! Her little hood is just too cute! What makes it even more frustrating to me is that about a year ago when I picked up my first Pop (Maleficent) I was about to pick up Boo as well since Monsters, Inc. is my favorite Pixar film and Boo my favorite character from the film, but I passed at the time. ](*,)

I think that's why now whenever I see a pop I feel obligated to buy it...

Hopefully Australia gets her like Mike and Sulley. I'll keep an eye out in stores for sure. I did a similar thing... I originally discovered Pop when the first Disney series was out, but I just passed on them all because I never really bought stuff online back then. And then I started buying them a few months before the third series was announced and I decided I'd only buy original Disney, no Pixar. Then last minute I changed my mind... and this was when Boo was about $30. I got her for $45 including the shipping... the day after I bought her the seller put it up to $90! So glad I got in when I did. I was angry at myself for spending that much at first lol.

Yeah, I'm still thrilled by the fact that I was able to pre-order Mike and Sulley from Popcultcha about a month ago! I only intended on getting Maleficent when I picked her up last year. Then in February a friend of mine decided to collect the Disney Villains, and when I saw how awesome some of the other villains were I decided I needed them too. It's been a snowball effect ever since. At first I was only going to get characters from the animated classics, then I decided I'd get Pixar, then I decided I'd get Marvel, then DC heroes, then the Holiday pops, and now I've decided I really do want all the movie pops as well. I want to tell myself that this is where I draw the line bc not many others interest me (aside from the MJ, Elvis, Star Wars, Simpsons, and Halo pops)... I guess I don't really have a line drawn yet after all haha!

Hahaha I'm the same! Maleficent was my first Disney one, but the very first was Wolverine. Then I saw Thor... so I got him, but then I found out there was Loki and I got him too. Then I remembered the Disney ones... so that started. Then I was like... okay, I really want the Star Wars ones... and then the DC, the Marvel... then I got the TV and Christmas ones... and I have a few of the movies and only one music. I seem to be able to not go overboard with a few of the series. I don't care about having all the music ones, I'm just not as interested in them. I only bought Ozzy. Then the movies I have most of, but I'm not a huge Michael Myers fan so I didn't get that one... it kinda creeps me out. I've never seen V for Vendetta so I didn't get it either... I won't get the Yo Gabba Gabba ones cos I have no idea what they are.. same with the NBA because I'm not into it. Disney, Star Wars, DC and Marvel seem to be the best ones for me. But so many of the upcoming ones look awesome. I kinda want the Plants V Zombies ones, but I don't think I will. I don't know the game that well. There's too much awesomeness!

You should really check out V for Vendetta!!! I LOVE that movie! Since we have similar Pop taste, I'm sure we'll also have similar movie taste, haha!

I didn't really want to get the slasher film pops, but my brother was all like  when he saw them so I've decided that I'll need to pick them up because I know he'll like to see them. He doesn't live with me, but I'm not sure if he'll want them in his apartment. I'll give them to him when he graduates from college!

Elvis and Michael Jackson are the only music pops that appeal to me. I'm more of a Pop, R&B, Broadway, and techno/dance music kind of guy, so if they came out with Gaga, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, ect. I'd be sold.

Thank you so much for the pics Sophie!!! I really enjoyed seeing the extra detail, especially since I don't own any Disney pops!

If you get some time and pull more out for a peek, you should make a thread for "back shots" (not the nasty kind...) and post some pictures :) Maybe more people would be willing to share photos of the back of their pops too :) Seems there is alot of hidden detail there!!

I guess you can make some kind of "bridge" with something thin made of metal like a big ruler and take out the box below. My point is that I didn't need anything but the boxes themselves and a plain wall to display them. Another story is every time you add a new figure, usually i have to rearrange a lot of boxes. I think photos aren't important, but how everyone like their pops to be displayed. To my surprise, maybe is a tie between in and out of the box!

In the box. Since I don't plan to ever sell them I take them outside their boxes when I buy them so I can check them out from every angle, and when I take one to the office (I need an extra Batman or Green Lantern to stop doing this and having one at home and one at the office). Otherwise, they rest comfortably inside the box, I love the box art and the colors just mix perfectly when you stack them, and also because it is easier and safer to dust a box than the figure itself.
