Blind chase Funko pops?
Do you think it would be a good idea if Funko made their pops that had chases blind boxes? I think this would help them go through a lot of pops that just sit there because many people just want the chase.

I personally don’t like buying multiple of anything just to get a chase. I think that’s why sodas kinda fell off. $18 is a lot to buy multiples of. Mystery minis are better because you really only have to spend $5 dollars a piece. I’m usually happy with whatever I get.

Yeah mystery minis is more fun because there is more variety too.

I find the worst luck when searching for chases. For me I rather have the guarantee than the gamble.

I think stores should want to do that. As far as funko goes they've already sold the pops so why spend money to make blind boxes. If I was a store I would do blind box.

They sort of did that with these Deadpool adjacent characters, Stingray, Madcap and Slapstick. The chase was a metallic Madcap, the boxes were wrapped from Hot Topic and they had a sign with no returns or refunds. I see the upside and downside but at large that series wasn’t for me. Prior to that they had some DC black and white Pops that I did buy a handful of, there was no chase but I did buy several of them to get the set.
Those GameStop boxes with chase are probably the closest we will get to blind box chases.

I don't think it would work well. Look at what happened when Lego put their minifigures in boxes so you can't feel what figure it is. People just ripped open the boxes. They ended up putting qr codes on the boxes so you can see what's inside.

I prefer to know what I’m actually getting/buying. I’ve never been a fan of blind or mystery pops/boxes.

I completely agree with you, I’d rather buy what I want, as you pointed out $18 for a soda is a lot, especially if you only want the chase, if you are good with either one, fine, but I feel like I’m better off buying the chase on the secondary market, we used to but the case, but can’t afford that any longer, and now it’s no longer a given.

The Chase game is so frustrating/fun - I don't know if this is a better way to do it but it's not a bad idea haha

They've KIND OF done it before with the Hot Topic rainbow Deadpool team. I remember there being mixed opinions of it then.

Yup i came to comment with this example, i remember they forbid the scales in the stores because madcap is considerably more heavy

I think that’s more of a price issue though. If you order online multiples technically it’s a blind box but the companies like chalice will send you 5 commons knowing what they are doing. I don’t think that’s fair

Re: Blind chase Funko pops?
Jason already pointed it out, but HT also did the same "blind" pops with Vault Boy. So we know there have been 2 instances before.
A big downside though is that HT eventually just removed the covers and sold the pops normally ause your average person wouldn't buy them. HT ended up with a lot of commons after th3 chases were gone, which is always an issue.

And just like then, people use scales on sealed sodas that have chases with different molds. Then they sell them on eBay as “sealed chance at chase!” Knowing they’re not actually chases.

The scale thing is so awful. I know it costs more money, but they could always even out the weights with cardboard/paper/something.

I agree with you here. The hunt for the chase in the wild was fun, but obviously its rarer and rare for it to happen this way. Sodas had this excitement but once the prices started to go up the desire to have both died down because most people couldnt afford it. As to mystery pops, I think Funko pretty much does this every so often once they have a huge stock of certain pieces and starts to offload them as free gifts or part of mystery boxes.

I kinda remember the Deadpool ones being behind the counter and not really being able to select the one you want at one location, and then just on the Pop shelf at another location. Hot Topic policy is still like the Wild West with no consistency.

I remember running into someone at a Hot Topic with a mini scale weighing pops when mystery boxes came out. He knew what the chase weighed compared to the others and had a small pile put aside.

Lol, that's some next-level detective work. I'm surprised the employees didn't say anything or probably didn't care.

It's tough really. So many companies have a no refund or return policy, yet all it takes is someone being unhappy with what they got and they can file a claim with their bank or credit card provider. Most banks (especially those that are larger) will just give the money to keep the client happy, then the company that the items were bought from get a charge back. The amount of people that order 20 pops from Amazon and return any non chases is more than those that would order six and keep whatever they get. That makes it really hard to do things like blind boxes.

Yeah that's so slimy. It's the same as weighing card packs. If you got caught weighing card packs as a buyer (while in store) or seller you'd get blacklisted in the tcg community. Pops aren't that much different in my opinion. It ruins the mystery of it for everyone.

That could be fun once in a while, like for a store exclusive or something like that. And it would make it more fair and give more people a shot at those limited chases like at hot topic, but overall I wouldn't like it. Mystery Mini's are perfect for that type of thing. I guess I could still just go buy the chase on the open market but having to buy pop after pop to see if I got the chase could really start to suuuuck

I stopped doing most minis because they were up to $8 a box. Also, I totally agree with the point that $18 is a bit high for a soda, plus the common sodas had no value once opened. That’s great if you are buying common sodas but makes it hard to hunt for the chase.

Some of the stores did this. Hot topic had the “pretty woman” leatherface chase as a blind box. Think I ended up buying 4 before getting the chase.
