This is a tough one I think it depends on value of pop ! Def wouldn't pay more than $50..

Unfortunately I fall into a 3rd category. I am a total in-box collector who wouldn't buy an out-of-box or damaged box pop. However, when you buy an Exclusive and/or variant on-line at retail from the store and there are no more, and yours comes crushed, ripped, folded, spindled, and mutilated, you do as I have done for the last 4 years, look for a new box.
I don't, I return it. I didn't pay for a broken Pop and I won't accept one in that condition. Either send me a new one in a proper box or I'll do without.
Well, seeing as the Pop was fine, and it was a variant box that there were no more of, I did have those options. I could have just asked for my money back and walked away, leaving only two more options. Go without, leaving my collection incomplete. Or pay 5x or more for the same one that I had, (and in 4 years the price has not dropped below that). I instead chose to take a perfect non-variant box from the store, put my figure in it in the hopes that I'd eventually get a replacement variant box. At the very worst, I can always sell the mint pop out-of-box for close to it's boxed value, or keep waiting for an out-of-box collector to sell or trade me for his.

You wouldn't happen to have a Prince John box, would you? I just bought one on eBay for a pretty good price, but the box is damaged!

Ouch! Same boat here... wrecked in shipping is a total bummer, the only time a Pop would be unboxed by me, but I have been known to just throw it in a Pop Stack and hope it straightens itself out...
And if something is damaged in shipping, it gets returned for replacement or refund. I will not own a damaged Pop and I certainly won't pay for one.
I hate seeing all the damaged returns in-store. They never get bought and sit around forever...

JJLecaros wrote:So i have a dilemma i bought a loose Pop (Cruella De Vil) but I collect MIB. So now I'm on the hunt for a box but the question is what would someone value it at? 10%, 25% of PPG? I wouldn't mind paying 10-15 for a box. So was wondering what your guys train of thought would be and if you guys have a go to place for replacement boxes. thanks.
First off, let me start off by saying PPG sucks don't use it.
Second, I will say assuming you are buying a mint replacement box (with plastic insert). I would expect to pay on average 30% of the Mint in box full value. That may sound insane, but it just makes sense. If a $1000 POP costs $700 Out of Box, than that box (and insert) is worth $300.
I remember a specific instance when someone wanted to buy a POP box and insert from me for $30 because that person had a loose version of the POP and knew I was an OOB collector. However the full MIB value of that POP was $400, making the box worth more like $120. The person got upset but I asked them, why would I devalue my own POP by $120 for $30, meanwhile increasing the value of your POP by $120 for only $30?!? Yes the insert is plastic and the box is cardboard, but boxes and inserts affect value that is fact.
Now if it is just the actual box itself (no insert), I would imagine maybe 10-20% of the value.
Lastly, there is a HUGE exception on box value for specific POPs where the box itself actually provides the bulk of the value. i.e. ECCC Storm Troopers. Outside of checking the base code, the box is the only thing separating the ECCC Storm Trooper from a $20 head swap of two commons. Thus the box in this case is easily whatever market value is minus $20 (which means the box is worth hundreds).
Also if you are looking for the box and/or insert of a grail, where replacement boxes and inserts may be VERY hard to find. Do not be surprised if you end up having to pay maybe even 40-50% of the entire value just for the box/insert purely because of supply/demand. if you are BOX picky, sometimes the easiest thing to do, is just buy a brand new version in that mint box you desire, then sell off your current version whether loose or in a damaged box for its market value and just be done with it.

Finding the boxes isn't the part that worries me the most. At the very least you can always have a custom box made that will mirror the original for around $25. The hardest part is finding the insert. If you're just doing a box swap then you can figure it out with a little effort. Trying to go from OOB to inbox is much more difficult.

.
With this..I know someone who happily sold his ECCC storm trooper boxes for $50 each thinking he scored big, meanwhile turning his once $250-$450 POPs into $20 POPs while the buyer happily turned his $20 head swap commons into $250/$450 POPs for the measly price of $50 each. Lets face it most buyers/traders will never actually open a box to check the base code.
So that being said, be smart if you sell your boxes and don't be offended if someone doesn't want to sell you a box for cheap either.

That is why if you're an inbox collector, it's easier to just buy a MIB POP and sell your current one loose/damaged and be done with it. Far to much effort trying to track down boxes/inserts at the condition you want for the prices you want to pay as well...especially for high end pieces.

It depends on the rarity of the pop. I've copped a few OOB for decent prices. The waiting game for a box to match the pop can be a test of patience though.

If it was damaged in-store, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I meant anything that came from an online-only vendor. I had one case where they didn't even try to pack it right, they just threw it in a box with no peanuts or anything and threw it in the mail. The box came in crushed, every single Pop box was damaged. It went right back, at their expense, for a replacement. That's the only time I have ever had that issue, most companies, especially in the collector market, pack their Pops right.

It depends on what type of POP it was. Definitely I would pay more if its a chase box or anything exclusive.

I think that it all varies between the pop and it's value. But I'd normally do about 25%.

I wonder if Funko ever considered just a line of flat replacement boxes. With the need of collectors to have mint boxes, it would be welcome. However, they should not provide exclusive, chase, convention or limited edition stickers.

I didn't even think about buying replacement boxes. My sister had two pops she gave me that weren't in the box. I am going to have to see if I can find a box. This thread has been informative

Lots of my friends really don't care about the condition of the boxes, much cheaper to collect that way. They look for discounts in the damages bins.

I was actually looking at my Friends collection boxes the other day (since they're all on display oob) and I realized that the Rachel box has a little dent in the plastic. I'm currently arguing with myself at if I want to spend the money and time to buy a new Rachel just for the box...

I bought a replacement Apollo creed box from Gemini a couple of years ago because USPS destroyed an ebay order of mine (Rocky made it safely in the same package thankfully). The insert is still crinkly but you can't really tell when displayed.

I would pay probably 10-15 depending on the pop. If I were going to go so far as to buy a replacement box, I'm sure it's for something that I really want in solid condition so don't think 10-15 is too extravagant.

I paid $25 for My Misfit Fiend box only, months ago. I've seen Ghost Rider box only go for $100, so more than the PPG pop at the time.

I get why people do it, but I couldn't bring myself to buy a box. Actually, 2 of the 3 prize pops in my sig have boxes that are coming apart at the seams. The glue is failing. But since I have them in pop stacks, it doesn't matter to me!
