the pop up shop is open to the public so no sdcc badges are needed... that's why people camped out longer for it. in order to go to the booth, you have to have at least a badge to go in to the convention center and try your luck at the ipad.... I really hope they do away with the ipad and make it an online lottery. that line and line cutting is BRUTAL

I do too. While this will be my first SDCC, I have read all about the camping out, the line cutting and the fact that you wait all night just for a CHANCE at the Funko booth (iPad decides your fate). No thanks! And that scares me since I definitely want to go to the Funko booth. The lottery system is so much better. ECCC does it and so does NYCC. So much smoother - no camping, no line cutting, and you know prior to the con if you get it or not. Hopefully SDCC will get with the program on this.

In many ways you are right, but what you fail to miss is the amount of people attending. Sure NYCC is big, but there are likely twice as many attending SDCC or more. I have attended NYCC and it only works smoothly if you win the lottery. I have lost and I was so disappointed to not have a chance at getting some of the exclusives I so wanted. At least at SDCC you can put in the time and be rewarded. And the iPad is no longer a lottery, just tells you what time slot you have. I'll take the sure thing over a 1 in a 130,000 chance of getting in on a single day and hoping that you have an early enough time so that everything is not sold out. Not a fan of lotteries.

Your exactly right...the push of the iPad is just that luck, wes and I waited all night and when we got to the ipad, I got green,Wes got red, luck of the push...

I would definitely need a group for that! No way would I do that solo. I wonder what the best way to find a wait group would be ... plus I would be really upset to wait all night and then not get in...

it is a lottery but it's not as bad of odds as it should be. seems like it was more of a 75% chance to get green so if they only allow 150 people (purely a guess of how many are allowed per timeslot) over 3 time slots, that's 450 people and only 600 people get to touch the ipad. I was ADA last year and tried for Funko Fri, Sat and Sun and never got to touch the ipad once. I was in the ADA line at 530am everyday.... there's no way i shouldn't have been able to at least have a chance at the ipad. it was ridiculous the lack of line monitoring and badge checking.

It's really depressing when you don't even get to push the iPad after waitng all night...we have had that happen also... talk about let down. But that year there was a problem with the way people monitored the lines and let the wrong one in from the back area, when they were supposed to go to into the corral area at the back.

You can always make friends in the line as you will not be the only one. LOL If you're lucky enough to get through before the line is capped, aka, all times are given out, you definitely want the earliest time. The last slot will net you some items, but you might not get the ones you really want or the super limited stuff.

But there is no guarantee that this can happen. I think it was Friday or Saturday am when the line was immediately shut down after everyone was allowed through. Snafu on their end or something. I don't think we ever got a clear answer. Funko just packed up and left the Sails area.

So it is a lottery in a way. You aren't guaranteed a yes or no when you step up, if you get a time slot then it is a yes. I have heard of some people not getting time slots even though all tickets have not been handed out.

So it is a lottery in a way. You aren't guaranteed a yes or no when you step up, if you get a time slot then it is a yes. I have heard of some people not getting time slots even though all tickets have not been handed out.

Its a lottery within a lottery... Funko Inception. You could iPad a late time slot, then be towards the end of that booth line and still end up not getting anything because they sold out for the day.
