The gamble

Great things come in mysterious miniature or pint sized packages, but which great thing will it be? It's all a mystery until you open one. Then the fun begins.

The gamble

Just a random question when it comes to minis if there are specific ones you want do you go out and buy or try your luck?

When there are specific ones i want, i find it easier to just buy them on ebay. But if the set has quite a few that im interested in, i will take my chances and try my luck.

I love gambling so normally I'll go out and try and get lucky, but it's a slippery slope because there have been instances where I was just going to buy 2-3 minis but end up buying the entire case lol

I like to take the chance but if I buy a case and still don't get it then I just go to eBay or trade locally

I agree with this. Especially when some of the odds are 1:6.

If a set only has one or three pieces I want, I'll often try to pull them. If I like most of a set, I buy a case. I use ebay when I simply can't find them in the wild.
I bought a Mystery Mini and thought it was cool. Now I have shelves covered in Funko vinyl products. What Happened?

I usually hold out and buy people’s extras/doubles if I am only wanting a couple from any given set. Sometimes I use this same approach on the sets I want them all from.

All luck. That's how it's supposed to be. I'd say if you buy from eBay you need to step yo game up homie and put yo big girl chonies on.

I take my trusty pocket scale with me and go out to see if I can get lucky in that my local B&N or HT carries what I'm after. I've bought some out-of-print minis from eBay, but no sense in doing that for ones that are still out there on store shelves.

Always buy the full case or a carton if you can. Resell the doubles or stop opening once you find what you want to and sell the rest blind.

I like to take luck out of it as much as possible. And although ebay is an option it feels pretty good to pull the one you want as opposed to just buy it.

I'd say best advice is, never buy a case unless is the common case, and all 1/12. Just get the ones you want via layout, or scale. Much cheaper, no reselling, no Walmart returns, just the figures you want.

I save my gambling for Las Vegas.

To what end? Рissing off customers? They're certainly welcome to do that, but I'm not sure that sends the right message.

Why would they do that, to screw over customers for $8.50 marked up pint size heroes? HT is a crappy store in general, hating on customers for using a scale that's sad. I mean we could crush the boxes/open them too, which is not cool. If my HT enacts this policy, expect to see some severely crushed boxes at HT. What's next, not selling chases on release dates and saving them for their friends? Oh wait.

It's too bad though. Without Funko HT'S would be out of business and world would be a better place.

Turns out it's an actual policy. Newly-enacted, but official now.

As for crushed boxes - it's already happening. And it will get worse.

I would Assume they do this because they don't want a bog down of people at the funko section making it harder for other guests to get to the rest of the store

If they wanted that, they would have bigger stores. Only reason to do it is, the manager is a flipper.

When I am really trying to collect a set, I’ll buy a case then buy the singles. But there’s a ton of sets I don’t collect and I like to just gamble on random blind boxes just for a shot for the rare pieces.

We typically run on educated luck, in that we try to find patterns with layouts or weights as best we can and then hope we did OK once we open them lol

If it is a full set I want to collect then I'll usually wait for store exclusive boxes to show up and either buy a bunch or even a full case so I have a good chance at the exclusives. Then I'll just try my lukc at other retailers if there are other exclusives and then finally just resort to ebay. My luck is garbage so once I'm like 75% complete I just give up and track down the rest online.
