Who else thinks there should be Studio Ghibli pop!s?

I personally think there should be Totoro or No Face pops. Disney owns the studio so there must be a pretty good chance right?

Disney does not own Studio Ghibli. They once had an exclusive distribution agreement for the movies in the U.S., but they do not own the studio, never have and no longer have those rights.

I remember in a Q & A with Brian or someone from the marketing or licensing department on the Funkast, they said this was one of their top wants but Studio Ghibi wasn't interested.

I would love Studio Ghibli pops. The only issue is that Ghibli doesn't seem interested in licensing their franchises to Funko.

I see enough Totoro merchandising to wonder why this would be the case, wonder if it has anything to do with the licensing fee that Studio Ghibl wants as opposed to not wanting to make Pops

I had heard that they are very controlling over accurate representations of their characters - and are not keen on stylised or deformed versions like Pops. Not sure how accurate that is.

From what I've seen, they also like to keep licences within Japan as much as possible.

Ghibli seems like a very difficult license to get. I know Her Universe has the license for clothing, but it seems like Ashley has made a lot of trips to Japan to work on that one -- it also seems very specific on what movies they want merch made.

Don't get me wrong - I would die to have a Princess Mononoke line of pops, but with Ghibli not really being up for it I think it won't happen for a while! (now prove me wrong universe and watch it get announced in the coming months lol

)

I would throw all of my money at the Ghibli license. I love everyone's ideas and will add that my son is always wanting Nausicaa items. He saw the movie when he was like four and I was at SDCC and it has been his favorite movie ever since. We are currently tackling the manga and are huge Ghibli fans here. I think Ponyo would be absolutely adorable as a Pop!

I would like to see them, but if Funko becomes IPO do you think this might limit their openness to do lines like this? I really love that they're doing Wes Anderson, btw.

What I wouldn't give for a Prince Ashitaka and No Face pop. A 6 inch Flocked Totoro would be a dream come true as well. Hopefully they can reach some kind of agreement one day to make it a reality.

I would LOVE for this line to be real but I'm not holding my breath for it. I think if they ever made a 9 inch Totoro, that would be awesome. I also want to put the Cat Bus pop ride next to my Hogwarts train pop ride and watch as my pops get confused. I can dream right? #-o

"Ni No Kuni" is owned by Bandai as far as I understand. There have been Bandai Pops before, like "Tekken". But yes, would love to see Totoro Pops become real at some point.

I would love to see some Castle in the Sky and Nausicaa Pops in particular. Two of the studio's best films and there is FAR TOO LITTLE merchandise out there for them. Nausicaa alone is one of my favorite female characters of all time, I'd love to see her Popified!
