Star Wars Mystery Minis Odds

Great things come in mysterious miniature or pint sized packages, but which great thing will it be? It's all a mystery until you open one. Then the fun begins.

I used some Box Lunch Money and got 10 boxes from a fresh case. I got Leia, Obi-Wan, Snaggletooth, Hammerhead, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper, Shadow Trooper, Jawa and two C-3POs. By my calculations, I left behind Han Solo (boohoohoo) and the second Leia. I don't have a layout or anything, but just in case anybody is looking for chase figures from this particular assortment, they can stop after they find Chewbacca and Jawa because the third chase spot is occupied by a second 1/8 C-3PO.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me the letter of the case assortment that includes Darth Vader?

Found this bad boy and completed the Vader set! Now just need Tie Fighter Pilot and Wal-Mart exclusives. We only bought 5 at target and were very fortunate he was one of them. No layout.

Not sure if this was mentioned already but an employee at HT mentioned they were being told that this first series of Star Wars may not get restocked, after this last run, since Last Jedi mini's are on the way?

That would be most unfortunate since the HT Vader is one of the toughest minis to find right now, and the Last Jedi set doesn't even have HT exclusives.

Of course Walmart seems to be waiting until TLJ releases before they drop their Star Wars Classics minis. And Walgreens will probably wait for Episode 9 to release before they drop their TLJ minis.

Waiting on the Wal-Mart minis to hit the market in quantity. I've done pretty well with blind pulls and ebay and am down to:

Tie-Fighter Pilot
Choke Vader (no saber)
Tusken Raider
Force Ghost Obi-Won.
Chewie with Bowcaster

Favorite so far....Greedo holding the gun up hight.

Found two cases at Target and tried to select a mix of heavy and light boxes. Ended up with:

Tarkin, Kenobi (x2), Leia, Ponda, and a Stormtrooper.

Great for me because that's three new figures I didn't already have and a spare Tarkin for my Thrawn repaint. I was hoping the heavies could have been a Vader, but looks like Kenobi was the heaviest I found.

Aside from being a good pull, Target also had these at $4.99. There didn't seem to be any clearance sticker, but I'm wondering if they're either priced incorrectly or target is just trying to move them out. Either way, better than the $6.99 MSRP or $7.99 TRU mark-up even if the Target cases don't have exclusives.

Between a couple of regular cases from Box Lunch and Target, I was lucky enough to pull 2 Vaders. If you're into the weights, I found Chewy and Obiwan were the heaviest with Vader coming in third.

For those tracking the cases, Vader came from a sealed Box Lunch case labeled "A"

Got lucky today. My local Gamestop had three open cases in, and just a few boxes were sold. Grap four and got a Vader. :freddy2:

Found an almost full box of The Last Jedi MMs at GameStop this past weekend. Odd thing is the GS box had a Walgreens MM box in it.

I mean thats not the worst. They did already restock SW Series one at HT storewide I believe. Even my local tiny, low volume store got a restock.

AV8899 wrote:I just thought of something recently, would the Star Wars store exclusive cases have a limited run similar to other store exclusive mystery minis? Last year I remembered when Hot Topics around me tried to restock Shonen Jump and Disney Princesses, they received the regular versions instead of the exclusives. A similar thing happened to some Targets around me that recently restocked Rick and Morty minis and Spider-Man minis, their restock was the regular instead of the exclusives.

So for example with Ponda Baba, he's supposedly 1/72 in the main set, but 1/12 at HT, Gamestop, and Walmart. If we assume that the store exclusive cases have a limited run, would that make Ponda Baba a common, or just slightly hard to get instead of rare?

Well even the common cases are ultimately limited. The question is really how many common cases are out there and how many of each of the exclusive cases.

Every GameStop around me has now stocked 3 cases of the Star Wars exclusives and each Hot Topic has stocked at least two. There are basically as many GameStops as any other retailer, so that is a lot of GS exclusive cases.

Walmart exclusive has been nearly non-existent (although I am fortunate to have one Walmart in my area which has now stocked 3 cases of it). However, I refuse to believe that Walmart just isn't getting very many cases. That's not their style. Their style is to stock things whenever they damn well please, so I think every Walmart is going to eventually stock a couple cases of Star Wars exclusives, but it might be January before it happens. Look at what they did with Disney Villains and Moana (they just recently re-stocked those in almost every Store in August/September).

As to the specific case of Ponda Boba, I think you can judge somewhat by prices on the secondary market, which are relatively low. So, I think that the ratio of exclusive cases to common cases is pretty high, and he is not very rare.

Has anyone noticed how off the ratios are on these? The Hot Topic and Walmart ratios both add up to 82/72. So who knows what the ratios actually are.

I just pulled 3 phasmas from Walgreens so I'm really not liking the 1/6 ratios :( I like Phasma and it's one of my favorite Star Wars minis, but the amassing 1/6 army I've built is really off putting and I probably won't be able to finish the set.

Yeah the 1/6's seem to be a more common thing in the new sets. It makes it very tough on the wallet for sure

HT has Obi-wan listed at 1/6 when he is actually 1/36.

Walmart has Han listed at 1/6 when he is actually 1/36.

They've done this a lot recently.

The ratios for the minis in the exclusive boxes are different from the ratios for the minis in a non exclusive box. So if you bought from a box at B&N, Obi would be a 1/36. But if you buy some from Hot Topic, he's 1/6. The ratios are not the same across the line.

My mom has been picking up these whenever she finds the last ones in store and ended up with a greedo and light saber luke. She thought she was pretty lucky so I don't want to ruin it for her and tell her the ratios are skewed now...

I know that the odds for the same figure are different at different retailers. If you review my post history in this thread it's clear that I know that.

It's still true that the odds printed on the back of the Hot Topic boxes are wrong. Go look at the back of a Hot Topic box of Star Wars minis. If you add those fractions up, they sum to 82/72, or 41/36. If you switched Obi-Wan from 1/6 to 1/36 (the actual odds), they sum to 72/72, or 1, as they should (you are supposed to get 1 figure per box, not 1.14 figures).

Furthermore, go find pictures or video of someone opening a Hot Topic case. They will not get 2 Obi-wans.

Same thing with Wal-Mart and Han. You will find 2 Lukes in every Wal-Mart case, but only 0 or 1 Hans. Because Han is 1/36 in the Wal-Mart boxes.

For those that do the Smuggler's Bounty... anyone know the odds of the two Luke variants? I'm assuming 1/2 but can't find anything posted anywhere to indicate if one is more likely than the other.
