Star Wars Mystery Minis: Toy Fair Reveal!

Great things come in mysterious miniature or pint sized packages, but which great thing will it be? It's all a mystery until you open one. Then the fun begins.

some of the worst ratios I've ever seen, and more 1:6 and 1:8 nonsense.

Why would you make Vader 1/72 and Luke 1/36!? I can understand Ponda Baba but two of the top characters?? Odd ratios for this series.

Two of the most wanted characters, in blind boxes? Why? So people will keep spending money to find them. Funko is in business to make money. They do an excellent job of listening to fans, and doing special things for collectors, but the bottom line is they are collectible company to make money.

That's fair, but it is a different approach than they've taken in the past. With the Spider-man series, Spider-man himself was a 1/6, not a 1/72. I can't think of any set where the only version of a main character in the series was rare. Normally it is either a popular side character or an alternate version of a main character. This would be like them doing a Batman set, and two out of every three cases didn't have a Batman in it. They haven't done that type of thing before that I can remember.

Well this is a new practice for them, normally the main characters are rather easy to get and they leave the high ratios for cult characters Or variants of the main characters like a Gym Class Dean from "Supernatural", or say for this line a no helmet Vader. I understand they are in for the money, but this is a rather new move.

Good comparisons, but don't forget that George Lucas considers Star Wars to be a space soap opera. There are many "main" characters in soap operas. I agree that it sucks that the most popular character is rare, but it's to sell more figures. Han, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan/Ben, and Anakin (before Vader), and now Rey and Kylo could all be considered main characters of Star Wars.

you catch more flies with honey than you do with scummy business practices. this sort of crap will catch up to them if they keep it up, and despite my mostly negative postings I am a fan of the company so i'd hate to see their star burn out before their time because of this sort of thing alienating fans (and no I don't mean the majority of you funatics as let's be honest I don't think most of them could ever be turned away)

Too bad the Storm Troopers aren't the 1/6 or 1/8s! Since those would actually make sense to have an army of.

It's typically only the hardcore fans that get upset about ratios like these. For example, one of my local B&N sells a ton of mystery minis. In the range of at least four times as many as the other two B&N in the area. The majority of the customers for these are one offs, those people that just buy it as a cool add on or for their kid. Same thing at one of my favorite Hot Topics. They sell a ton, and not only to hardcore collectors.

In the world of collecting, ratios like these are the norm. Even in blind packs of trading cards, some of the most wanted pieces/characters are sometimes quite rare. Given that Funko's revenue growth has increased over tenfold in the last five years, I don't see their star burning out anytime soon. As a business practice, it's actually quite smart. Increasing sales by making a wanted character rare, will increase profit. Even if it pushed away a few hardcore collectors, I'd be willing to bet that these minis will draw in even more Funko collectors.

Making a desirable item rare isn't a scummy business practice, it's pretty standard when it comes to collectibles. It's not like they didn't post the odds and we only found out later after purchasing 50 boxes that Vader is 1:72 (then I might agree with you since that would have been misleading). If you know going in what the odds are, then it's completely fair game and not scummy whatsoever.

I think I only want the Leia and Han from these. Plan to sit back and relax and let you all buy everything trying to get the Vader and then swoop up some of the army of Leia and Han dupes you all will have. Mwaahahahaha!! All part of the master plan :evil2: Kidding! I feel your mystery mini pain and wish you all good luck in the hunt!

So the only true 1:72 are the 2 Vaders then. Ponda Baba is 1:12 at Gamestop. Going to make eBay impossible since anyone who finds a hammerhead at gs will think he's actually think he's 1:72 and vice versa for Ponda Baba in a common case. This is going to be fun.

I mean that in the gs case Ponda Baba is 1:12 and hammerhead is 1:72 and in the common case Ponda Baba is 1:72 and hammerhead is 1:12. So neither is 1:72. But in both cases each Vader is 1:72. As a matter of fact it looks like Leia and stormtrooper are the only consistent ratios in both cases.

Funko is officially out of control on the minis.
If you don't believe or understand me it's simple here are the last 4 sets:
1. Spider-Man - there is a case assortment at Target that doesn't contain a single Target exclusive and now the restock on these at Target are only common cases. Oh and I just so happened to get that assortment - nothing like a 1/72 Silk and 0 Exclusives
2. Justice League - there is a Batman not even on the box at GameStop that is showing up between 2-4 pieces per case. Imagine buying a full case and getting 2x 1/6 Aquaman, 2x 1/6 Mera, 4x 1/6 Batman (which isn't even supposed to be in there) and 0 GameStop exclusives.
3. Trollhunter - Yet again mislabeled ratios
4. Star Wars - 1/72 changes to 1/12. 1/36 changes to 1/12. 1/24 changes to 1/12. 1/8 changes to 1/12.

I just posted this somewhere else 1/72s never bothered me I guess because I used to have to hunt 1/144s. But mislabeled and changing ratios between vendors is insanity. Cases being purchased with exclusives that don't actually contain a single exclusive. ANYTHING 1/6 or 1/8 is a slap in the face. It's essentially just false advertising at this point. For me all the issues lately signals the beginning of the end on collecting minis.

right there with ya bud, and that pains me as I love minis more than any other Funko product. i have a deep fear as to how the Disney Afternoon ones will look now, i can see it now Gosalyn & Webby at 1/3 and every other figure at 1/144

wonder whats up with the ratios. being 1/72 all the way to a 1/12 at a different store doesnt seem right to me. Maybe a misprint?

If thats for real, how would people trade them and whatnot?

"Hey, ill trade you my 1/72 Ponda for a darth vader?
"Ponda is a 1/12 tho"
lol

Person A: Hi, I like your vinyl mini bobble-head that I paid $7 for at GameStop. Care to trade?
Person B: Well, I paid $8 for mine at Hot Topic, but I really want that character. Sure, I'll trade!
*trading happens*
