'Ive only got like 10 stacks. but those pops are worth about $50 plus. my collection isn't terribly expensive but if you want an answer on when a stack is required i would say the point that you would be sad or angry if the box got even slightly damaged hah. But soft protectors are a must for box collectors.

I put mine in stacks if it is a chase or the value has exceeded $100. I also use them for Autographed pops (Lando and DynoMutt are the only ones thus far but going to get K-2SO, Zeb, and Kanan signed this November). I also use the stacks if traveling and need to bring something I acquired home form a trip so I can ensure it doesn't get damaged.

Whenever you decide it needs one.

If I have the proto, I will display the proto along side the pop, and use the box in a stack as a riser.

If I had the funds I would have just about all of my pops in a stack. In the meantime, the pops that are in stacks in my current collection is whatever I deem a 'favorite' of mine or anything over $50 in value. I'm a Star Wars collector and don't have any of the grails. I have several items that probably shouldn't be in a stack like the Hot Topic Exclusive Chrome Vader and the GITD Yoda.
