Out of curiosity, how would you rank the five films?
Also, does the gold HT exclusive actually have something to do with what happens in the film (I haven't seen it yet) or is it just kind of a random exclusive?
in my opinion the HT gold exclusive is completely random unless it is meant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ride in which case they did a terrible job making that obvious. As to ranking the movies I'll give 2 lists, 1st is based on ho much I think the movie is rewatchable, second is based on what I think if the actual quality of the film:
Re-watchability:
1. Curse of the Black Pearl
2. At World's End
3. Dead Men Tell No Tales
4. On Stranger Tides
5. Dead Man's Chest
Quality of movie:
1. Curse of the Black Pearl
2. Dead Man's Chest
3. At World's End
4. Dead Men Tell No Tales
5. On Stranger Tides
Without giving spoilers, I appreciated who all they had come back from the originals, but there were a few faces I as sad to not see. Of the new characters I felt that Henry and Carina were the most fleshed out, but Salazar had more better villain motivation than Blackbeard did in Stranger Tides (though still Davy Jones and Barbossa are my favorite adversaries in the series). I was surprised by what seemed like a lack of park references (outside of maybe 1 but I need to watch again to confirm it). I thought the score was beautiful despite being a new composer for the first time in the entire franchise (though themes definitely returned). Costuming was amazing, and some of the pirates' costumes looked like they were inspired by the ride moreso than they have been in the past. My only major criticism of the film is a HUGE plot spoiler so I'm putting it in spoiler tags, DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING FROM THE MOVIE SPOILED.
Back in Dead Man's Chest Tia Dalma says to Jack "The compass you bartered from me, it cannot lead you to this?" Implying that Jack got his compass that points to what he wants the most from Tia Dalma. However in the new movie he gets it when he is young and right before he leads Salazar to his doom, the captain(?) of the boat had been shot and in his dying moments hands the compass to Jack and tells him it is up to him now and to never betray the compass. So Id love to have an answer from the writers as to what was the thought process behind that massive retcon
