Like many on here I have changed the way I look at collecting Exclusive and Chase figures. I had to teach myself not to feel let down over not finding a chase or limited exclusive figure. I work a lot of OT sometimes and it's hard for me beat the flippers at stores so I do a lot of online buying and it has worked pretty good so far I've gotten Chases for Ren and Stimpy, Wonder Woman, HIM, Starlord and almost all Dorbz Chases. Don't give up on what you like to collect because of a few people sometimes patience is the key and there's always people willing to help out

It is frustrating, but bear in mind you might have the chance to find a chase or another chase instead! There is no reason to quit. If you are just starting out, I can see how you are discouraged. There are collectors here who have collected for a while that are still missing a few chases from their collection. But with the new chase variant, I have seen more and more people find them. People that actually want them, not flippers. Flippers are part of collecting. If you collect pins, books, patches, toys, whatever, they will always be there. Sometimes it's just luck, and sometimes you're out of luck cause someone beats you to it. We have all been there, but that is no reason to stop collecting. It's a loss for you, and it is frustrating but check back and forth to you stores because you never know when one might pop up! Good luck!

I feel you on time! There is a guy that hits up the most popular Hot Topic in our area around the time they get their shipment every day! He was there one day waiting for their Stranger Things shipment, and he had been waiting for like four hours because the shipment was late, and when it did there were no ST pops.
We went the next day a little late, and when we walked in, there was the shipment and we were able to get the entire set of ST with the chases. It was the best feeling ever, because it was just being there at the right time. Another collector also came as well and he got a set. Then someone else approached us when we were looking in the boxes and he was very angry because we got to the pops first.
The other collector there actually helped him out and he got an Eleven Chase, and we saw it for sale for $60 that afternoon.

That is one of the reasons I've pretty much given up on finding chases out in the wild although when I do go I look around cuz you never know

I did luck out on the Stranger Things tho

I've accepted that I probably will never find another chase in the wild. Similar to you, I too work from 8-6 everyday, so chances of me stumbling on a fresh case or shipment are highly unlikely. The way I see it, I'm just grateful that I have a steady job and a steady income, so I would just save up and pay flipper prices if I really want the piece. Alot of these people are hustling, trying to make a buck or two, so overall, as unfortunate as paying flipper prices is, it could be worse.

Me too man, I live in a big city full of pop collectors. It's hard for me to get the anime pops because I live in a town that is filled with anime fans, but the chases are hard to find around here. I haven't had any problems with flippers so far thankfully

I always wonder what kind of jobs these flipper people have. Can you really survive just..flipping? I know some stuff may sell for quite a bit at the beginning, but I don't see how you can come out any better selling something when you have to pay for time, shipping, materials, etc.
And then I look at some stuff on eBay. Like those Rose tumblers from Disney World that were $15 for a limited time. And I see some people who have over 200 of them for sell, at $75 each. That people buy. Just blows my mind. I mean...how did they even get 200..?
It sucks we like our material possessions so much. I was telling my husband how much I love my pops the other day. Haha. He just laughs at me. But it's okay!

I ask myself the same question I don't think a person can make a descend living from just flipping but I might be wrong. I'm not gonna lie I have sold some items mostly to feed my Funko addiction

I totally understand about the love for our material possessions just the other day my wife and I were talking about how she doesn't understand how I can care for some plastic toys so much and take so much time organizing and keeping them neat and clean

RoboFist wrote:Well, for starters, Hot Topic is not allowed to take returns of Pops that have Chase variants. This rule was put into place last week, and is enforced by corporate. So the days of seeing flippers get their money back for cases and cases of Pops should be over now. The employee who handled the return will no doubt be reprimanded, or even fired. Hot Topic is seriously cracking down on this sort of thing.
I'm glad Hot Topic has put this policy in place. Its nice to see retailers place new rules on Funko buying. So many people not being able to get the pops they desire at retail price because of the flippers and honestly it takes the fun out of shopping Pops.
Its nice to know that if they don't get a chase they aren't able to bring back the non chase. Its going to make it so much harder for them because they are going to have to try to sell them individually and that means more time and money for them. It doesn't even seem worth it for a flipper to buy 10 pops expecting a chase and then have to sell each of them individually because you can not return them.

Don't get me started on those Disney cups. I am a Disney person. I have seen people in the Parks fill up their bags with stuff that was released that day.

And I just don't have the time they like the pops like a lot of people do. And I'm not paying 60 bucks for something that was 10 bucks. Between work and going to the gym I don't have that time that I want.

I told my husband that our goal in the next 3 years is to get everything done to our house and sell it. Then I'm moving to Florida. Because it's just not fair.

Dude that sucks. If you like Remy and are fine with the common, I like to order from entertainment earth. I have ordered mega man dorbz, star lord, and flash dorbz since I would be satisfied with the common. I have been 2 out of 3 for chase. Keep in mind I pre-ordered these, and star lord is still pre-ordered ontheir site even thought I got mine. Not sure if pre-ordering helps with chase.
Flippers are annoying, but we win some and lose some. Keep the faith man and I believe you will be rewarded.
Could always give entertainment earth a shot.

I'm the only one I know that collects pops within my friends circle. So it's hard to find stuff and trade in person like a lot of people do.
Well, that's what we're here for! I'm going to the local collectibles shopping thing tomorrow, I'll keep an eye out for your Remy as well! I've yet to see a chase in the wild, and look at them like a lot of the posters here - something super cool if I found one, but not a super must have. That being said, if I find out that I'd missed out on a chase that would've kept my collection complete, I might have some serious rage going on!

I like looking for Chase figures, but they aren't a make or break for me. If I find one, great. If not, oh well.
Now, with that being said, I feel like I must have the Stranger Things Chases. Not sure why I look at those differently, but I won't feel like my collection is complete until I have them. So, I plan on stumbling upon them in a store at some point ... then turning cartwheels down the aisle in celebration (while breaking my neck or at the very least pulling a hamstring). But, I refuse to pay more than retail because I'm cheap like that.

I saw an instagram post from a nearby HT that just posted a new policy that any pops with chase variants are final sale. I'm not sure if that's just the single store or every HT now.
My local HT suggested I buy a whole case of a particular Pop in order to get a chase. A whole case.

Ratatouille is my favorite movie as well. It's the one movie that gets me through my bad days. I live in L.A. so I will probably never see a Chase in the wild. When I knew there was going to be a Remy Chase, I planned out my Pop spending money to get him from eBay. Having to do the same for my husband's Wonder Woman. It's unfortunately part of collecting. Just happy that we only want two Chases in the six months or so that we've been collecting.

Not living in America, I have NEVER seen a chase in the wild. Like ever. I have seen a ID4 alien chase at Forbidden planet's window for 4x the amount they normally charge for Pops, and even though I like it, I would never pay that much. I did manage to get a few convention exclusives there for not exorbitant prices. They charge only a fiver more for these so I guess that's still ok.
Saying that, even though I don't have much hope, I still keep trying. Maybe someday. But I know it won't happen instore in the UK. Maybe online they will send me one if I buy from abroad.
Also, I would never buy a chase I did not like or were interested in. Have seen the Charlie Brown Ghost instore (which I hear was a bit hard to find) and left it there as I don't know anything about that. Hopefully made someone else happy.

The only chase I've ever seen in the wild was a Fallout Rock Candy figure at my local Gamestop, but given I have never played a Fallout game in my life it was an easy pass for me. Hoping to find a Animation or Heroes chase in the wild someday though.

Yup, they totally can make a living off of it. They usually sell more than just Pops though - they will sell whatever is popular, trendy or has value. Could be collectibles, could be higher end luxury items like brand name purses. I know in the poster print world, there are guys who camp out for art shows, buy prints for $50 and then flip them on eBay for seriously 6x-12x what they paid for it.

It's only a toy, don't let it get you down. It's like when retailers put their exclusives up at different times during the day or night. Sometimes you are on at the right time and are able to get it or sometimes you just miss out.

At my Hot Topic, the cashier said that they argue that the Pops are defective if they buy a bunch (talking exclusives-not sure if they try it with the series with chase variants) and the boxes are less than perfect. She said one guy has been in a bunch of times and argues loudly with the manager. He claims defects overrules the bulk policy. She says its very frustrating because he usually wins. She brought it up because I was looking through the metallic Pink Rangers looking for a good one (was actually looking at the paint jobs, but some boxes were dinged). I guess those were some he returned. I think she was happy to see that they did sell.

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
I totally agree that the situation sucks. I went to keeping my collection limited to ones I want - mainly Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts and a few Marvel movie ones. I know that having a 9-5 job I cannot be at stores when they open to find Chase or Exclusives, and need to trust that if it is meant to be it will happen. So far I have been able to get the exclusives (Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, Target, FYE) by calling the stores daily and being diligent, so that the day they got them in, they had them and put them in hold for me. I have even taking my lunch break early to get the convention exclusives.
I really like Star-Lord and would love to get the chase version, but so far I have not had any luck. I can live without it. If I wanted him badly enough, I would go the eBay route. I do dread the day they make a Harry Potter chase as that is the set I am a completist on and would want him badly enough to go that route.
I did manage to get the convention exclusive Captain America at Hot Topic. I went early and was there at opening. Of course the flippers were there buying 6 of each. To me, I wish stores would limit them to just 1-2, to give more people a chance. Just sad to see someone buy so many that you know will be on eBay in a couple of hours. Unfortunately it continues to happen.

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
This may have been mentioned already, so my apologies if it has. I was in a Hot Topic last week while I was out of town on vacation. They had a sign up that said something along the lines of "Limit of 1 Chase Variant Per Customer". So, if nothing else, that store is trying to crack down a little. We still didn't find any though.
I'm determined to not go the eBay route for Eleven and Demogorgon.
I work for a software company where I haven't been able to go out looking for Pops during the prime times to search due to my schedule. However, I just found out that we're about to go to three 12 hour shifts per week. That means there's gonna be 4 days where I may actually be able to beat the flippers. Of course, living almost an hour away from any good stores hinders me a bit too.

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
Being in the UK doesn't help, but if I see a chase variant announced I just expect to never own it. Just sort of the way it is. Shouldn't have to be that way, and this new HT policy seems to go some distance to amend it, but probably not far enough

I could only return 3 or 4, even though they came smashed due to their poor shipping boxes and packaging.

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
That sucks. I had something similar happen to me. Not quite the same thing, but it involves a Chase. So, the Gamestop I frequent had the HIM POP on pre-order. I went ahead and put a deposit down for it, and the guy who managed the store told me that if they got the Chase in, he'd save that one for me as my pre-order. When they came out, I went in and was told that they didn't receive a Chase. No big deal, I thought. And I looked at the regular HIMs, but found the paint-jobs a little iffy on all of them. So, I said I'd wait. Well, I ran into someone who's an acquaintance of the Gamestop manager (who works at a different store) at Walgreens (she was there buying the NES Jason Dorbz, while I had just picked up some Moana Mystery Minis) I mentioned that I was looking for the HIM Chase and also mentioned the above story with Gamestop. She then told me that the manager, the one who told me, personally, that their store "never received a Chase figure" had bragged about getting TWO in, and buying them both. I felt so angry! I could understand buying one, but both of them? Especially when the guy KNEW I had been in multiple times over the past two months inquiring about the status of my own pre-order? And then LYING to me about it, to my face? Ugh. Sucks. Because I'm not usually one who cares about Chases, but I love the character of HIM, and I felt the Chase brought out his red coloring better than the regular POP. Oh, well. I wish you luck with Remy! And boo to all the people who make this hobby feel like a chore!

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
I'm in the same situation where I work every day so my odds of ever finding a chase Pop in the wild is pretty much 0. I have found several Dorbz chases recently but I attribute that to Dorbz not being as popular in comparison. It definitely sucks that flippers are such an issue with this hobby and it only continues to get worse. I stay away from places like Facebook groups because I get mad when I see someone with 6 of the same items asking 2x-3x the original cost and claiming its to "help the community." Same goes for the jerks that post pics of a chase they found in the wild while still in the store or sitting in their car. Instead I prefer to use IG to follow local collectors I know aren't flippers and browse these forums daily for new info and discussing whatever.
I am a firm believer in karma so I feel like the more I am able to help fellow collectors, the more luck I seem to have when out hunting. I helped put together a group of funatics from these boards that are all located in SoCal here and use the Google Hangouts app to communicate as a group (SoCal Funko Force wooo!
). I'm out hunting quite often so I'm always able to help people in my group if I find anything people are interested in and simply sell at cost. It is fantastic making friends in the community and I feel that by helping I'm keeping the Funko Good Vibes going. I've had some absolutely amazing help coming from some of my fellow funatics both in the local group and on these forums that I can only attribute it to karma.
. Make friends and don't give up the hunt!

I have these feelings every now and then. Recently my area in Northern Kentucky has picked up collectors. Im literally racing the flippers it feels like. Our fb group is awesome and helps one another out but we all have the trouble of beating the local flippers. They dont just take chases, they buy out all exclusives to where we get nothing. They recently bought all 9 Target Belles. It saddens me because I wanted that one pretty bad. Im so excited for the new Maleficent chase. She is one of my favorites so im hoping i can get her but i doubt it. I just try to remind myself of all the awesome pops i do have.

I've pretty much given up on finding chases as well; people are just too crazy nowadays. Shouldn't let that stop you from collecting though!! Like others in this thread have said Positives outweigh the negatives!

Re: Maybe done with Pops, due to what happened today.
I would not make this the point of stopping the collecting. Being a collector for years, I can say I have seen it all where the employees buy cases of Star Wars or even stealing them from the back to selling them in their car trunks. Becoming a collector of anything puts us in a mindset that we need to get that hard to find item and if we are lucky and find two or three, we may pick them up to save for trading or hopefully saving them to give to our friends. I do hope that Hot Topic stops accepting returns on multiples of certain characters with a chase or Game Stops with the same issue. It creates an issue with these stores taking in returns because it may affect them later on with ordering new supply until their shelves empty out with these returns.
