Barnes and Noble Mystery Boxes

Postby ohheyitsshannon » Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:02 pm

So I caved and bought one of the mystery boxes today. Just curious as to what people got in their boxes!

I picked the "C" box and got:
-BN Killer Croc exlcusive
-Oscar the Grouch
-Olaf Keychain
-Hulk Keychain
-Minions MM
-Avengers Age of Ultron MM

I'm wondering if each letter is the same!

I was shaking them in the store and the employees were laughing and asking what I was doing.
I'm guessing each letter has a specific set of items in it.
Didn't think it would be exactly the same, though. lol

Picked up the B box. Rocket Raccoon was indeed inside. (I'm selling him at cost, if anyone is interested before I hit ebay. I only wanted Croc).

I bought one this morning as well and got Box B. I got home an opened it and there was NO Killer Croc? I went back to the store thinking the employees were going to doubt my story. The cashier had no clue but told me to grab a like box to compare contents. We opened and sure enough that one had no Killer Croc either. She said it looks like the contents are the same so she wasn't sure what my complaint was. She called the manager over and he looked stumped as well., but, he did say that he had bought himself a box as well and it did have Killer Croc but not the same other pop I had in the box (B). He double checked something in the computer and then grabbed a Croc from the table with the SDCC exclusives (they were selling the Croc separately it appears? I didn't see that 1st thing this morning so they must have added inventory after i left) and made everything right. He was curious though and grabbed another box B and sure enough there was no Killer Croc in that one too!. Just FYI if bought one in Braintree, Ma that you may want to verify contents as there seems to be some quality control with the boxes there.

The rumor is correct. My daughter wanted Rocket, so I picked B... and ended up with Rocket!

I think it's box C that had Killer Croc.
That's what I bought and I got him.

So "C" has Oscar the Grouch, and "B" has Rocket Raccoon, Is there an "A" box? What is the pop in that one?

So is GITD Killer Croc being sold separately as well (I checked my B&N this morning while getting Convention exclusives and they had only reg Killer Crocs)?

EDIT- wow I lucked out, just went downstairs to my car and checked and it's box c. Whew!

They all have GITD Killer Croc, but it comes with another pop. The second pop depends on the letter. A is Fear (Inside Out), B is Rocket (regular), and C is Oscar the Grouch (regular). I grabbed B and it's a regular Rocket Raccoon.

That's what I thought too until reading Scruffy's post. But maybe they just had a bad batch at his store, or someone pilfered the boxes.

Were they all spider-wrapped? The pics I saw of it online had them but I wonder if it was done everywhere.

It's an anti-theft device. It's the one where it's got the little sensor on it and it wraps around the entire box. You'll see it on expensive items a lot. The cashier will have to undo it at the register.

That makes sense. I got Oscar the Grouch so it follows that pattern.

The ones I saw the other day were spider wrapped (security device), but another store I saw them at today they were not.

Mine either, in fact I thought it wasn't sealed at all because it has one of those pull-out side flaps (pull the flap out and open the lid like a door). I tried pulling on the flap in the store to see the contents but the flap was glued. Perhaps people were opening them despite the glued flap, and that's why they put the spider devices on them.

Mine only had the stickers, but you could definitely tell that people had been opening them and looking inside. The stickers weren't even sticking to the boxes anymore. I wanted it to remain a mystery, though, so I grabbed one and just went with it.

Something weird happened at this store. I don't know if these boxes got shipped from the distributor like this or if the store themselves had to fill them per instructions. They were selling Croc separately at this store when I went back a few hours later (once I finished my SDCC run) and they were all the GITD exclusive ones. I think these ones were meant for the B boxes to be honest. At least they took care of me!

There was no spider security on their boxes at this store. I just happened to stop by another B&N while out and wanted to see what they had left for stock and they had 2 mystery boxes left but both had the security device on them.

It might have just been certain stores then. A lot of spider-wrapped items at BN were instructed to be put out like that, but maybe with these it was just store discretion.

At my store the mystery boxes were behind the cashier counters so they had no need to spider wrap them lol

I am hoping to get one of these boxes, but the B&N near me said they had a few left and they are selling out fast. I won't be able to get over there until after work, so maybe 7-8pm? I really hope they don't sell out before then.

Yep I got Rocket too, would have preferred Oscar. But when I saw the boxes, I didnt know squat about them. So I decided to buy just one, THEN my pick was based on a box I was happy with. I picked one up, got almost to register and saw the plastic "foil" seal severely damaged. I said to myself "here we go again"!!! So back I go, out of the 5 boxes, only one looked sort of un-tampered with. One was actually cut/torn. The others looked "lifted". Granted they had the anti theft on them, but what about the employees (hello GS)? Come to find out they were all Croc's, not "golds" like GS box, so no big deal in the end. But see what the GS debacle has done to us?? Man, 8 months later and we still have flashbacks!!

We had a few of these at work, but it was such a weird day that I completely forgot to look into them. I hope people are having good experiences with them though. I know it could probably be better but I have a strange attachment to the company I work for lol and want people to be happy with it.

So I had someone pick up one of each box for me last week and just opened them today.

Wish I'd known they all had the same exclusive and all had Olaf. I can give away the extra Olafs easy enough but not sure what I'll do with the 3 Killer Crocs . I don't even want him.

Guess I should have waited to see what others were getting before I sent someone after the boxes for me.
