Noob needs advice on displaying Funko POP's.

Postby Hourglass75 » Thu Feb 18, 2016 5:47 pm

Will you please give me some advice on best way to display Funko POP's? I've seen people, like NERD THERAPY that display collection in boxes. I've also seen collectors who remove from boxes and display on shelf. For obvious reasons I thought it best to keep my Green Goblin Chase sealed in box, displayed in Curio That seals and prevents dust from getting in, in order to maintain its value and intend to follow that course for rarest and most valuable pieces. But is there any reason why I shouldn't just remove, from box, and display my more common pieces. I've already done it with two Star Wars POP's I got for Christmas. On personal level, I don't see point of collecting toys and leaving them sitting in boxes. I like the freedom to display and pose items I collect, in a way that suits my own aesthetic. I also don't view toys/collectibles as investment. I completely understand, and respect people's desire to preserve value and as investment, it's just not primary motivation for me. It's something I do to occupy time, to make me happy, and as a way to decorate in way that expresses my own taste & personality. I realize there are gong to be a lot of opinions, and there probably isn't a right answer, except when it comes to rare, and valuable, POP's. I also save the boxes safely in my closet, so they're available if I need them. Right now I have POP's displayed on Blu-Ray shelf, and will add brackets and shelfs above that when my collection expands. My primary goal is to learn, and find my place in this community so any help is greatly appreciated.

My first suggestion would be to go through this thread for ideas: viewtopic.php?f=62&t=28313

I personally display all of my Pops out of their boxes, only because I prefer to enjoy my collectibles, and re-selling them is not really something I think about. Maybe look through some of the display pictures for any shelves you might like, and any display styles that suit you. That's what I did, and there were so many ideas that popped into my head! There's so many different ways you can show off your collection, and you can change it up as often as you'd like. You should never feel restricted in any way. It's YOUR collection.

I love the Detolf display cases. They keep the pops clean and with some lighting, it'll make your collection look amazing. I don't use mine for Pops specifically, as I have other things I'd prefer to display in it.

Just do you. OOB or ITB, do whatever you deem worthy.
I have all my commons on display, while more valuable ones are staying in the box.

I certainly don't let value stop me from taking them out of the box. I've got a few in these cases that are worth something:

Do what makes you happy. Some say it's easier to display in box as they stack. Some like the detail you can see out of box. Luckily pop boxes aren't sealed so do what makes you happy

Totally up to you. You bought them, they're yours to do with as you like. Some in, some out, a couple in storage tubs, some loose lying on the floor, some being used as bath toys. Your call.

I open all of mine unless they are flocked. Cleaning dust from fabric sucks!

Otherwise I take a swifter duster once a month, clean em up, and they are good. Can't even tell they were OOB when you put them back in. I'm more concerned about sun damage, personally.

if you have the space I'd say go with out of box, if you really don't, I stack mine in there boxes about 6 high, but when i get a house or something in the future and have more space, i will display them nicely.

Depends on the shape of where you want to display them too, if you plan to dedicate a blank area (like a whole wall) then boxed seems better. But if there's shelves in place/different height structures then out of box will always work better. Also have to consider where you'll store your boxes in the mean time (unless you really aren't bothered about the value dropping massively)

There is no right an wrong way to display them! :) I personally go in box; mainly due to my collection growing so rapidly that I have no space!

I guess it also depends on your display area. In the box gives you the easy benefit of stacking them, so if you lack space horizontally, this can be the way to go. Out of box you get the benefit of putting them in front of each other, but you can not stack.

Either way works, the beauty of these collectibles is that you can do either; there is no seal on the box, and if you go in box, at least the boxes look great as well.

Thank you! I was inspired by a lot of the ideas in the "Your display, the Funko way!" thread, there's some really great stuff in there :-)

I like them out of the box... but I like the boxes too! So in front of the box it is! But I'm running out of space and fast I don't know if I should expand or just switch to in-box or just slow down. lol

I'm using boxes in Pop Stacks as risers. Too many pieces on each shelf, I would like to just have one row in the front, Pop and its proto on the top.
