Re: Black & White Mickey
So I just got the b&w Mickey's today...and I gotta say...not cool...Apparently there was an issue with the paint. The black ink looks like it ran into his face. A customer of mine emailed me telling me he'd bought one from another retailer and that this was an issue, but I figured it was a fluke. I guess not. I'm going to have some people pretty upset at me...no words...

Oh man
not cool at all, that's unfortunate. So was of the stock you received like this? I was looking forward to tracking one of these down but I'm not as sure.

It's the whole shipment and I have a feeling ALL of them have this issue. I know of one other retailer who has them in stock & noticed he didn't add pics of the actual item as we both typically do when things come in, he's using the stock/glam photo. This is the worst I've ever seen a hikari look...save your money.

Is it maybe supposed to look like a patina?
I have some older Warner Brother bobbleheads where they did a wash to make them look old and vintage-y.
(and yes, it does look like one of them is drooling ink)

So I spoke with my people at Funko...apparently the look is intentional. It's supposed to look "vintage". I have already heard two complaints from customers who didn't like that look and I'm not a fan myself. I don't see the point in it, but everyone I know who's seen it up close is like "ugh". I hope people enjoy the look more than I do...

The reason I have never been a big fan of glam shots. Oh well I guess if they are all like that not a thing you can do about it.

That is a bummer but at least we know it is an intended effect and not a defect. I am very happy with my original Mickey. I will hold judgement until I have B&W in-hand...

Got mine today and it looks pretty bad...not a fan of it at all. Plus paint got on the window by the nose as well which kind of sucks.

Re: Black & White Mickey
So I was so excited when I saw the postman deliver my box from Gemini today, until I opened it... Is it just me, or is something wrong with the paint? I'm not sure if it's intentional?? The white parts look like they have a black paint wash. Not what I was expecting looking at the glam? Maybe it's correct but it's not what I thought it would be, and I kind of think it looks just dirty :/

Re: Black & White Mickey
I was told by a Funko employee that the art department stated that this was intentional. In my opinion it was a BAD move. Why wouldn't you just keep it simple and make them uniform? I think this was a mistake and the damage control was to put it out there that they were going for a look, but I could be wrong. I just question the good sense in calling it black and white & stating that its supposed to be a vintage look when they just look dirty.

Got mine in today. I have to say it is probably the worst looking funko product I have ever bought. Not a big complainer on paint jobs but these are not good. A couple of customers saw it today in the office and asked if I painted it myself. I laughed and told them no but I may try to repaint it.

Re: Black & White Mickey
I don't think it's damage control to say they were going for a 'look'. I think they had a really cool vintage look in mind, but the wash got FUBAR'd in the execution. I bet the samples for approval looked much better than what we're seeing get released.
I, too wish that they had left it at black and white. If the results are as uneven as I've seen so far, many collectors will be very disappointed. I've decided not to find out how mine turned out and just cancelled my order with EE.

Re: Black & White Mickey
Well... Submitted a request to return my BW Mickey to Gemini I but they rejected my return request. I've been very happy with all my orders from Gemini so I'm disappointed that this was the response. I guess my only option is to sell on secondary market, but am also concerned anyone I sell it to will also be disappointed. This is just crappy ... :/

Yeah, but you can not really blame them if they have a no return/refund policy. It is a huge bummer on how the B&W Mickey turned out but that is on Funko and not Gemini. Buyer remorse is a tough one to cover. Trust me, I am bummed about how the B&W turned out as well. The glam showed no signs of the fake antiquing.

Not the first time you see it, no. If you go back and look at the glam now (I did), you can see that something is off in the creases of Mickey's cheeks, but that's because you know what to look for.
I love the original and I hope there are some more Mickey colorways down the line. I'd love to see him in some of the sparkly and multi-colored paint schemes.

After seeing the pictures posted above of how it looks in person, I am pretty p***. With the glam photo, I expected it to be black and white....like the black and white POPs. WHY the hell would you do this??? Mine is coming from PopCultcha...not going to be a happy camper when it arrives if I see the runs everywhere.

Mine should arrive today or tomorrow and I'm just hoping it isn't terrible. It will be my second Hikari and I don't think it will be a regretful purchase, but I may be less pleased if Mickey looks like he's been in a bar fight...

You're probably right.... I am just worried about negative feedback because someone feels like I sold them a badly painted item (not knowing that they're all like this)

Best way to fix this issue is to Tweet Funko about it and screenshot their response. Then use it on your auctions or to reply buyers. It is not your fault as the seller because it is not damage but intentionally painted that way.

This might be an option but try at your own risk: Use Magic Eraser on the white areas to see if the black smears come out.

When I first read about the paint job, I thought uh oh, but I just got my B/W Mickey today and I think it actually looks pretty good. I took him out of the box (of course) and it actually does have that "vintage" feel Funko says they were going for. As the saying goes, "photos don't do it justice".
