If I recall correctly, that was when Gemini put up their haul of SDCC '14 exclusives and all hell broke loose. Prior to that I believe the "most users ever online" was that previous October for the blue Batmobile (Toy Toko exclusive) release online.

That's a lot, but I don't think its actually the most. We broke the site for a Christmas contest one year. I think the Crazy Color Freddys, maybe. Other long-timers help me out.

The server went down during the crazy color Freddy proto contest. The first link is for the original contest. The second link is the second thread that Brian set up after we had server problems. That was when FunkoFanJim's business was hosting our site. Now we are on Go Daddy. I think there is also a difference because everyone was constantly hitting refresh.

In fact he couldn't even get on the thread he had going so he had to start a new thread, I even had a contest on how pages it would end up at ha. Since then the site has change servers so the number you stated is incorrect.
