I'm really itching to get a Proto but I don't know if I want to start as I would get so addicted. I'm currently looking at a ted Proto still undecided :p. But what was your first Proto :) would love to know :bounce:

It might be addictive but it all depends on you; I bought mi fist proto like one and a half years ago, it was a Cain from Jupiter Ascending; after that with the pass of time I bought 3 other protos and I've kept there since that. Regarding to the Ted's proto I let pass the opportunity to buy him at Gemini during their Proto Sale at discount prices.

My first proto was a Batman that I purchased about 2.5 yrs ago. It's not really addicting to me, as the more popular Pop protos are pretty expensive (in my opinion). Now, I mainly stick to Wobbler protos or random protos that I really like. Like Beto says, if you are looking at buying Ted, Gemini is having that proto sale, so it would be a good time to buy. Good luck!

Was anything else listed in that sale? I was hoping for Color King Arthur from Holy Grail.

Not that I'm aware of. It's been the same bunch, but it looks like Elsa/Ma Petite combo & Linus have since been sold. If I remember correctly, it's the same ones that were listed last time they had a ' proto blowout.'

Matt, when it come to protos it's best to strike while the iron is hot! If you like Teddy then go for it, 100 bucks is a screaming deal for a proto. And with there only being 3 color protos of each Pop it may be a long, long time before you see that one again. Save the receipt, resale will be better when you have proof that it is a legit proto.

I'm a nut for Walking Dead Pops, so most of my protos are also from that series. I have 8 of them. I have a few others that I found appealing. I just picked up 3 BG protos in that Gemini sale, I had been on the fence at the higher price but when they dropped the price I couldn't restrain myself ;-)

Protos are definitely not for everyone, a lot of people here say "why do you pay so much for just an unpainted Pop". To me they are a lot more than that, they were a part of Funko's design process. They held them, looked at them, passed them around, discussed them before going into final production. I think it is pretty darned cool that they let us have the opportunity to own them, most companies throw protos away after they've been reviewed. Plus with them being unpainted they look like tiny sculptures, the details are much more apparent. That's why I like them, but you have to decide for yourself if they have the same appeal to you :-)

Some great points made here. Although, there are usually 5-6 of each color proto.

My first proto (my little pony) was one that I received at Fundays. Shortly thereafter I purchased two from someone for $100 each, and that's when $100 was a lot for one. There are some big proto collectors on this board who focus on them specifically; myself, I collect certain lines (my little ponies) and every now and then pick up a Disney one when it's a low enough price for me.

Oops, I may have gotten it backwards. I was thinking it was 5-6 whites and 3 colors, is it the opposite?

Umm my first protos were wobbler protos. Then I got a couple pop protos, probably iron man as my first, can't specifically remember. I've had around 10-12 pop protos since I've been collecting

Not to discourage you, but Freddy protos are a few orders of magnitude more pricey than "regular" protos. And there's a secret brotherhood that deals in them, they have a clubhouse and special handshake and everything lol Seriously though, I have very rarely seen them show up on a public venue like eBay or the trade forum here.

the thing keeping me from getting a proto is that I could go buy groceries for a month or buy a prototype of a pop lol

I concur.

Personally, charging $100-$500 for an unpainted Pop with no box seems absolutely absurd, but if people like them and buy them, then more power to them. ;-)

My first proto was a white Brian from Family Guy. I got him during Funko Funday last year. Since then I bought a Kratos proto on eBay and a White Goodman(Dodgeball) from Gemini. You know you hit that next level of pop collecting when you start buying protos. As long as you just buy the ones that have some sort of significance to you, you'll be okay.

Our first proto was a Wobbler and was a gift from a long-time collector.

Then we scored big at Fundays 2015. We caught several and then traded with someone to get Stewie and Brian together.

Family Guy Ray Gun Stewie

I don't think we'll be buying any protos but I would love to have Harry Potter or Star Wars protos.

I wish we had more time to trade with people when Fundays ended. I would have loved to try to trade for some protos at the end of the night when the party ended. Maybe this year.

I don't think we'll be buying any protos but I would love to have Harry Potter or Star Wars protos.

I wish we had more time to trade with people when Fundays ended. I would have loved to try to trade for some protos at the end of the night when the party ended. Maybe this year.

What a great first proto!! Congratu-freakin-lations!! :-$ Serious proto beauty on that Iron Man wobbler proto!

My first proto was a POP proto...kinda like the colored proto's over the white, but still would appreciate either
