Sneaky HT! They know most people only go there to buy exclusives and go elsewhere for commons (or wait for Hot Cash). Making HT exclusives cost more is a greedy move. If they want to stop flipping they would impose limits for HT exclusives like they do with con exclusives. I see no reason why Deathstroke was $15. Winged Castiel I understand because it is more complex.

But if this is how they're going to do things I see myself spending a lot less money at HT in the future and being much more selective on what I do buy from them.

Yup. Worst part is the only HT near me stopped doing buy one get one 50. it's buy one get one 30% and they aren't changing it because they're the only HT in the area...

At the one near me, commons are $10 and Unmasked Deathstroke was $15 (managed to buy him for $10 though), which is crazier to me since that's a 50% uptick.

They're usually CAN$15 here, only one I noticed was a different price was winged Castiel at $17.50.

I find it's the pop rides that are a real rip off. Daryl's Chopper was $40 at HT, yet you could find it $10 cheaper at HMV and they even had a sale of 25% off not long ago.

I think most people do the same thing as me. Just buy exclusives at HT and then find commons cheaper at other places. Even comic stores have them cheaper at $12.

The price was one of the big selling points for me when I first started to collect POPs. I understand exclusives being more expensive, but not regular POPs.

I just went yesterday to my local HT (Ala Moana) and Unmasked Deathstroke was $15.00 and Winged Castiel was $14.50. The other exclusives (Metallic Magneto, Red Daredevil, etc.) were 12.50.

Buy gift cards and save

Postby squidward » Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:18 pm

Hi all. I haven't seen anyone mention this so I thought I would add my tip for saving money at Hot Topic and others. There are gift card websites that resell gift cards at a discount. If you Google 'gift card resell' you'll find raise.com and giftcardgranny.com at the top of the search results. I have bought many gift cards from these sites and every one has worked perfectly. I have saved anywhere from 7-20% at different stores. The less mainstream the store, like Hot Topic, the larger the discount. There are many cards for sale right now at 11% off.

Just pay attention between eCodes and Physical cards. Some eCodes are only able to be used online.

The downside is that you have to front the cash and keep track of gift cards or eCodes, but you can buy them with a credit card (to still get your miles/points).

Good luck

Wasn't Glow La Muerte 15 as well? I feel like it's more pick and choose, which is odd.

Except for the fact that Gamestop, BAM, and Go! also have mall stores and none of them are priced as high as Hot Topic.

Hell, NOBODY is priced as high as Hot Topic...but they keep trying to find ways to get more and more money out of us.

What we need to do is stand up as collectors and say "no, we will not be taken advantage of" with our wallets.

Unfortunately, that will never happen.

I went this morning to get Deathstroke:Unmasked and it was $15. I was like why is it $15? and they didn't know. They just said from now on, Hot Topic exclusives were going to be $15 dollars.. I don't think that's right. I understand that they are trying to make money, as they are sure that people will buy them, but for $15 dollars I can get a 6" pop. I'm just going to burn through my hot cash during SDCC and only go to them if I REALLY REALLY need too. ](*,)

Keep in mind that most other stores charge more for exclusives as well. Gemini is $16, Fugitive sells theirs for I think $15 for normal and $25 for metallic/glow, Toy Tokyo is usually $15 as well. Exclusives aren't free. And add in Hot Cash, BOGO, HT+1, online coupons, they're still cheaper than most places. During Hot Cash, their regular $12.50 pops work out to be $6.25 each, and BOGO brings them down to about $9 each.

They usually don't do BOGO during Hot Cash, lucky you if your store does. You also can't use your HT+1 with Hot Cash either.

I'm contemplating sending another email to Hot Topic. I doubt they will listen but I feel like the inconsistencies are getting out of hand.

Hot cash takes $15 off of $30, so basically 50% off. Half of 12.50 is 6.25. Yes, the BOGO stops during Hot Cash, I was saying that the BOGO brings their prices down to $9 during their normal sale.

Flocked Simba, and Castiel w/ Wings both had the $14.50 price tag on them, but the reason for this was that Simba was "flocked" and Castiel had the added plastic with his wings. The exclusives Hot Topic sells from Cons are priced at this too, because they're the exclusives.

Unmasked Deathstroke at this price is a crock. There's nothing special to him other than he's unmasked. They are just using their right to price things how they see fit and they're right people will buy him at that price because if they don't then all the flippers will get them to put online and sell for even higher. Which is happening. I've seen people asking $40 for him! $40!

Bing Bong (Invisible) is being released now (Street date for Friday) and from what I hear his price is $12.50 the common price for Pops. So it may be that the Arrow is popular and they're looking to cash in.

But even then... it's not as bad as Fugitive Toys wanting $20 for Arrow: Unmasked with a painted face and calling it John Diggle.

I'll have to check my last receipt, but I believe metallic Magneto was only $12.50. I noticed that our local HT is pretty flexible when it come to pricing pops. I have a feeling if they think something will be popular and collectible they bump the price. It happened to the flocked Wampa. It was $18.50 for a long time and then it was bumped to $24.50.

I feel that those flocked Wampa's are not selling that well though. The last few times I've been I to HT, they have had so many of these as well as a tonne of Han's, Slave Leia's, Jedi Luke's and Jabba's.

I dropped in after work yesterday and all exclusives, except for unmasked Deathstroke, were $12.50. The wife looked at our receipt from our last purchase on 6/13 and both exclusive Olaf and Magneto were $12.50 minus the BOGO discount. Maybe it has more to do with when the pop was released. So, new exclusives = $15 and older stuff the price is unchanged? I don't know for sure really as their pricing seems as random as the wind. lol

I still can't speak for Hot Topic but it looks like maybe some distributors have raised the prices. The store where I work (again, Canadian dollars) recieved some exclusives yesterday. Metallic Deathstroke and Unmasked Deadpool. We used to charge $11.95 for normal Pops and between $13.95 and $15.95 for exclusives, but we're now charging $19.95 (canadian) for the exclusives.

Just got these four at HT tonight...

26403

Deathstroke $15
Han $12.50
Ant-Man $12.50
Eleventh Doctor $12.50

If this becomes their new pricing, I will strictly only buy their exclusives. They're already too expensive at $12.50 when I can buy them at BN for $8 and change. The B1G1 half off makes it less painful, but I would probably buy more from them at a more "normalized" price.

On a brighter note, I have 4 or 5 Hot Cash coupons now

you know whats really weird yesterday I bought a couple pops from a hot topic close to my house and they were $15 ea today I went to a different hot topic in downtown and paid $12.50 ea. I was thinking that maybe exclusives were different prices, but all the pops I bought were exclusive, so I dont know why the price difference.

Honestly I think Hot Topic is up to something. They do so well with their BOGO 50% off and Hot Cash promotion that I can't see them needing to change things up by inconsistent pricing, inconsistent promotions, inconsistent store stock.......

So recently I bought 4 Exclusives off Hot Topic .com Clear Predator, Daredevil, Unmasked Antman and Unmasked Deathstroke. all But Deathstroke were 12.50 minus 20% Deathstroke was $15 minus the 20% I don't know why he was more but it seem to be company pricing not the store. The website is a life saver for me my Hot Topic doesn't carry many pops and I can never find the Exclusives I need.

I just paid $15 for Unmasked Deathstroke and $12.50 for a Batman Chase piece. I LOVE my Hot Topic, always get a great deal (ie BOGO 50%), but my Hot Topic workers take really really good care of me. I'll pay more for pops when the workers obviously care about the customers.

Prices are the same $12.50 here as always. My only issue with HT is hoping to get the Hot Cash online codes before 7/8.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was just informed that today is the last day of BOGO at my local HT. I don't know if it's because this store is a high traffic store in a prime mall (Ala Moana), but it's still disappointing to hear. :(

I was just wondering if other people's HT stores have discontinued BOGO lately as well. I'd like to know if it's a national change or just store-specific.
