An "Old School" Rumor Was True

For years I had heard that when the BooBerry bank was made in 2000, General Mills did not approve the first wave but the pieces had already been manufactured. Rumor had it that Mike Becker took the entire lot and had employees give them out to Seattle kids during Halloween.

Since hearing this ages ago, I've constantly scouted on eBay looking for any type of variation in order to have a "reject" but found nothing out of the ordinary.

I finally asked Mike during SDCC to confirm/deny the rumor, and he stated that it did happen.

Apparently, the imprint on the bottom of the banks credits Warner Brothers rather than General Mills so General Mills vetoed the first wave and a second wave was correctly marked and released.

This now means that everyone needs to turn their banks over, find a mis-marked Warner Brothers piece, and sell it to me.

This is one of the best things I've read regarding Funko, yet. I came late to the game and am still bringing myself up to speed on all things Funko and Mike Becker. Everything I've read about him so far makes me believe he is an awesome human being.

I hope you find one of these, kroffty, just to be able to tell that story.

I'll ask my friends who grew up in Seattle: "did you happen to get a BooBerry toy while trick or treating way back in 2000 that you may still have kicking around?" but seriously, I'll ask around- if I know someone who still has one they probably have no idea it could be special to anyone.
