Michael Myers Pop...minor complaint from a horror movie nerd

Postby Gray » Tue Feb 03, 2015 6:29 pm

The one thing that has always bugged me about the Michael Myers Pop is that his knife has blood on it. I know it's hard to believe but the original Halloween movie had hardly any blood at all, and when it did it was very little and only shown on screen for a very brief amount of time. I feel like adding the blood wasn't necessary and kinda detracts from what made the original such an amazing film. There was no need for excess gore in Halloween nor did it have to rely on showing blood and guts every two seconds. What made the film so scary was its chilling atmosphere. It's one of the many reasons why it's one of the best horror films. I could also make a similar argument for Leatherface regarding the original TCM, but I've ranted enough...like I said this is just me being a horror movie nerd. I think Funko did a tremendous job with all the horror Pops and hope they make more in the future.

Heck, the Jason Voorhees Pop has a bloody bowie knife and (Spoilers for a 35 year old movie) Jason wasn't even the killer in Friday the 13th... His mom was.
Hi. My name is Chris and I have a Funko problem.

I was already gonna cover that bloody knife with some thin gray vinyl, like what you can make stickers out of, just because I prefer not to have blood on my figures. So this is just more of a justification to do that. I'll have my Mr. Meyers in the pre-stabbing stage, please. :D

Agree about the blood on the knife - it's stupid and detracts from the figure. I (kinda) understand having it on some of the other horror pops, like Ghostface, but on MM it's stupid.

3 questions about the Michael Myers pop:

1. When was it first released? I was looking for it recently, and I noticed a lot of online stores have it marked as "coming soon" or an option to "preorder" it.

2. Who made the GITD Michael Myers pop? Was that a con exclusive? Is it even a legit, Funko-sanctioned release?

3. Has there been a metallic variation yet?

Thanks guys! :D

Not sure on the exact release date, I want to say late 2011 or early 2012. Funko made the gitd version, it's the "chase" version meaning 1 in every 36 or so is gitd. No metallic version.

Honestly, this doesn't bother me nearly so much as the CHILD'S PLAY 2 Chucky having stitches/scarring. (Chucky didn't gain the stitched-together look until BRIDE OF CHUCKY, the FOURTH film in the series.) He was completely re-built by the Good Guy Toy Company at the beginning of Child's Play 2 and was thus 'pristine' in that film. (Child's Play 2 is actually my favorite of the series!)

Got my regular MM pop today - was a little surprised that his face isn't white. It's more of a blue-gray color.

For those of you who own this pop - is the face on yours the same color, or different?

Same, it is not white but blueish matte gray as well.

Funko isnt always movie accurate when it comes to these things. For example, Frost Giant Loki has the Dark World body, but he was only a Frost Giant in the first Thor
Pop Count: 80 something

Holy Grail: Green Arrow
Realistic Grail: Chase Flash
First Pop: New 52 Flash
Latest Buy: Civil War 5 pack
Latest Preorder(s): None :/

And he didn't have the hockey mask until movie #3 but here we are.

Funko artists take some artistic licensing which I think is totally okay. I mean, most of the characters that have been popified don't have heads that disproportioned either. I'm a huge horror fan and have no problem with any of the Funko horror figure designs other than we could use some more!

But if it does bother you that much, a few drops of paint will change it no problem.

I don't think they base it off just 1 movie in a 10+ movie series but more so the most iconic remembrance of that character. Jason is associated with having a hockey mask always so makes sense. So I can see some reasoning as to why Myers has blood on his knife.
