How do you organize YOUR ponies? (Help wanted)

Okay. So first, lemme give you my stats.

Vinyls: 25
MM: 15 (+2 on the way)
POP: 13

I currently have two shelves dedicated to ponies, with a third one to be added later.

Now I gotta set up what my bedroom'll look like, again for reference.

I have one of the two shelves beside my bed, waiting until I'm a little more financially stable before I buy the other. The storage at the base of the bed was replaced with a storage ottoman for shoes.

I also have a third, slightly larger bookshelf in the corner.

At the moment, the skinnier bookshelf by my bed holds all my vinyls and MMs, although it's starting to get a bit tight. My current setup is alphabetical (From AJ to Vinyl). I use the boxes to elevate them--the regular ponies stand on their box (with name side facing out) while the glitter stands in front of the box. Black MMs stand with the regular ponies (same with GITD) and show accurate ones stand by their glittery counterparts.

My pops sit on their own shelf with homemade risers.

This display worked relatively well until the latest wave, where Discord was added. He's much too tall for my current setup (his box alone is barely able to fit) and the shelf is also too narrow--his hoof sticks off unless I angle him.

For reference, exactly 5 ponies fit on each shelf with their boxes. My original plan was to put him somewhere else, but it's a bit of a mental roadblock for me because he belongs there with the others (if you remember my post about my mom, you know why I can't just separate him).

So I've been trying to rationalize with myself a way to make it okay. My first thought was that hopefully they'd make more villains and I could dedicate a space just for them, but that came with it's own problems and I'm kinda back at square one. I thought about reorganizing entirely because I'd like to keep certain ponies together (Apple Family, Derpy and Doctor, etc) but that brought up another problem (what if we get Shining Armor and the princesses? Should Twi go with Shining Armor because they're related, or should Shining Armor and Cadence go together because they're married? Celestia and Luna obviously go together..should all six of them go together as the 'royal family'?) and I'm not sure how to respond, but if we were to get Granny Smith or another Apple member who didn't start with an A or B, they'd be separated unless I organized by family. What about ponies without family? Fluttershy? Should Rainbow and Spitfire go together?

and what about mystery minis? With some characters having multiple figures (Derpy, RD) it gets a little crowded, and their black bodies don't show up well on my black shelves..

I know how trivial this sounds to most people but it's a genuine problem in my mind. Please, don't make fun of me or try to make light of the situation. Does anyone have any ideas that could help me?

I arrange mine by color, but that's how I organize everything. :) I think Twilight and Cadance could hang with Shining Armor, and Celestia and Luna could be with them too

I arrange mine by relation, or interaction, I guess is the better term. For instance, Fluttershy is beside Rainbow and Rainbow is beside Spitfire. Octavia and DJ are next to each other since they're musical ponies, the Mane 6 are all together, of course, with Applejack on the end so that Big Mac can be beside her, etc.

I do like the arranging them by color idea though. Weird that I don't do that, since I do that with other things, haha!

In don't decorate in a consistent stationary style. All of my things move around the house with me. For example, all my newest minis are sitting right next to me of the coffee table so I can pick them up and enjoy them. Or my new pop gets desk reale state for the first few weeks. Then they go into my bedroom or onto my mantle or wherever they will reside for a few more weeks. Things rotate with me.
However, my crystal ponies sit on a shelf in my closet, and they are arranged one of two ways which changes sometimes: by color, or by my level of appreciation.

This doesn't help you at all! But I love how you describe your process.

I actually hit on this question the other day when displaying the Mane 6. I finally just referenced a pic from the final Season 4 episode of all 6 together. The order from Left to Right:

Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack.

You could always do Luna, Celestia, Cadence, Shining, Twilight, and the rest of the ,mane 6 can stay together ending with Applejack and have Big Mac next to her :P

May have to hunt for something similar. I know my bookshelves are already almost full and need more space.

I bought a shelf/case from IKEA for my POPs. I'm traditionally against glass cabinets but this seemed workable. Was a bit of a PITA to assemble but for a lot of POPs in there! It's called the the Klingsbo.

As for organizing....as a newer Pony collector, I am keeping the vinyls, crystals, POPs, metallic POPs, etc of each Pony as a group. But in no particular order. I don't watch the show (ducking!)
