The issue is too much stuff not enough time. By going to the pop up shop, you're dedicating an overnight stay outside and missing half a day of the con. If it didn't require me to miss the con, i'd be more willing to keep it around. I'm not complaining about flippers...there's flippers in the con as well, it's just too much stuff I want to do and prioritizing is a PITA.
Agreed, if only there was more time!
the pop up shop is open to the public so no sdcc badges are needed... that's why people camped out longer for it. in order to go to the booth, you have to have at least a badge to go in to the convention center and try your luck at the ipad.... I really hope they do away with the ipad and make it an online lottery. that line and line cutting is BRUTAL

I do too. While this will be my first SDCC, I have read all about the camping out, the line cutting and the fact that you wait all night just for a CHANCE at the Funko booth (iPad decides your fate). No thanks! And that scares me since I definitely want to go to the Funko booth. The lottery system is so much better. ECCC does it and so does NYCC. So much smoother - no camping, no line cutting, and you know prior to the con if you get it or not. Hopefully SDCC will get with the program on this.

NYCC and ECCC as well as SWC are all run by Reed Pop... my friends and i talked to the line manager at SDCC and voiced our grievances last year. Not sure if they fell on deaf ears, but hope they change things

In many ways you are right, but what you fail to miss is the amount of people attending. Sure NYCC is big, but there are likely twice as many attending SDCC or more. I have attended NYCC and it only works smoothly if you win the lottery. I have lost and I was so disappointed to not have a chance at getting some of the exclusives I so wanted. At least at SDCC you can put in the time and be rewarded. And the iPad is no longer a lottery, just tells you what time slot you have. I'll take the sure thing over a 1 in a 130,000 chance of getting in on a single day and hoping that you have an early enough time so that everything is not sold out. Not a fan of lotteries.

OHHHH .. I thought the iPad was a lottery - a yes or no is what I was told. So I thought you could wait all night and then get to the ipad just to be told no! What time is the best time to line up for a guaranteed shot at getting the booth? I mean I really don’t want to wait all night and will have my son/Family in San Diego with me so would be really hard...

Now I’m confused as conventiongeek said it’s not like that any Le. ???? I guess the best thing to do is find a wait group and whoever gets in, helps the others out to get what they want from the booth! I need to find a group or form one!!

Groups make everything better. It technically is random, but it seems that they have filled all of their booth time slots very early in the line. The early bird does get the worm in my experience.

And how early are we talking here? I’d like the best shot of obtaining the exclusives as possible.

Overnight would be best.

I would definitely need a group for that! No way would I do that solo. I wonder what the best way to find a wait group would be ... plus I would be really upset to wait all night and then not get in...

So it is a lottery in a way. You aren't guaranteed a yes or no when you step up, if you get a time slot then it is a yes. I have heard of some people not getting time slots even though all tickets have not been handed out.
