Re: Does Pop! popularity mean lower quality?
Thanks but what i realy want to know is what you as collectors deem acceptable to you,I am a comic book seller and collector so yes i can be choosy too.
My suppliers do not want to accept returns on paint quality so i can not return them i wish i could.
I just want to offer a good service in my shop and i want the Pop! vinyl figures to keep selling so more are made. I also want more available in the UK it is impossible to get hold of any of the exclusives i keep hounding my UK supplier for more exclusives i want a Walker Merle too.
Licensing is a nightmare for us too so many Pop! lines are unavailable in the UK and have to be imported. When i first started selling these there wasn't that many different lines now as they are growing more collectors are trying to complete sets. It is especialy annoying when for eg. The Walker Merle isn't available for them to buy with out having to import it and pay a lot more than they should.
What would be great is if Brian and Funko set something up like a Collectors Club so collectors could get some of the Pop! figures that are not available to UK collectors. There are no Hot Topic stores in the UK ect. Popcultcha in Australia seem to be able to get all of the exclusives so why not some one in Europe. I know the UK distributor struggles to get enough stock to supply the demand over here.

Re: Does Pop! popularity mean lower quality?
For the most part, I'm an "in box" displayer, so I'll never really know if my POPs have any paint issues that aren't visible when displayed in the box. But then there are a lot of people who display out of the box, so I would feel bad if I ever sold them one of my pieces and they came back to me and complained about any paint flaws. So I can't even imagine how you feel, having to sit on inventory because people refuse to buy the ones with any flaws.
And I agree with you, you should definitely contact someone to try and get more exclusives sent your way. I've noticed a lot more funatics being from that area and reading about how disappointed they are because of the low numbers of POPs/exclusives available to them at a reasonable price. I don't think anyone wants to pay $25 shipping on a $10 piece...

I am happy with my $10 POPS with "OK" paint jobs...If I was dropping $75+ on a 4" vinyl toy..then I might not be so happy
Plus, its about collecting for me. I like that they are less expensive and easier to collect.

Just to prove im not out to diss Funko here are some pics of the new Big Bang Theory gang that came to hang out in my shop yesterday. These guys will be going on to the wall display.
On another note i love the stands wish they all came with stands or at lease holes in the feet so that the stands are an option.

They look a little scuffed but that's all stuff that wouldn't be as noticeable to in-box folk. You don't seem to have the issue with wonky glasses I've seen a few of as well which is nice-the glasses on Bernadette and Leonard were the biggest recurring issue I found with these.

They/Them
ISO PROTOS: Labyrinth Jareth w/ riding crop, Harley Bombshell Rock Candy and David from The Lost Boys Mystery Mini.

I have Clair there are a lot with wonky glasses i thought they would of made Leonards eye brows bigger too.I was suprised that Howards alien belt buckle was well painted on the few that i have looked at so far. I wasn't pointing these out as flawed these are on display.
I need a Stuart now and Will Wheaton i may try and make them.
When this show first started i made a bunch of paper toys for some friends because they could not get any thing figural at the time. They also like myself were fond of SD style figures they will love these.

My two cents? I would prefer at minimum no noticeable defects on the front of the face and for the paint to be properly applied. I'm more picky with the head than I am with the body.
My Hound figure for example has a few of those marks on the side of his face and a piece of skintone paint on the corner of the beard. There's also a few paint bleeds on the armor. I really don't have a problem with stuff like that.
However 90% of the Hound figures I've seen at stores have had far more noticeable problems -- the black streaks running down the front of the face, black paint around the eyes making it look he got into a fight with someone, chunks of the skintone paint on the beard, etc. Stuff like that I'd put back. And the issue with stuff like this is, the Hound is a figure I needed to have because he's my favorite character, so I put in the extra effort to get one. There are figures I'd like to have but don't need, like Arya, so with stuff like that I end up not getting them period.
As to that example from the BBT -- IDK. The eye bit I could live with, the dots on the face might be distracting.

I recently opened a shredder and it had a REALLY bad paint job. It's all good though I'm using him to do a custom anyways

If so why did i open a Batman Pop! only to find not one but 2 craters in the back of his head.I don't want to hate on funko but i do see a real problem with QC.I am a huge fan of the Pop! style but i just wish we could get the same quality that we do on the mini figures.

Re: Does Pop! popularity mean lower quality?
This is why i moan because i would never have known that was like that if i had not of opened it. When i check stock i can only check the front of the Pop! before i put it on a shelf or send it out to a customer. We in the UK do not have a Funko rep we have one distributor and the odd Pop!s that Diamond UK get, every thing else i have to import.
I have to import in 36 count cases to ensure that the boxes are well enough protected that they are not damaged in transit. You will find most sellers only get odd cases of 6 sent this is when they get battered in transit. If you buy a full case of 36 you get 6 boxes of 6 in one huge box so a lot of extra protection.
If i could get every thing in the UK i would but this is how bad distribution is in the UK i only had this month the Raj Bobble Head from the UK distributor. Yes its cheaper than importing but these were out last year. I know a lot of the Pop!s i import will not be available over here and i get these so my customers don't have to pay a small fortune importing them and continue to collect Pop! vinyl.
If you guys new how much it costs to import these and then have to pay the goverment just for having them we end up paying a lot more in the UK for these. Oh and don't forget our 20% VAT charges. I have tried very hard to keep my customers satisfied by getting them the Pop!s at a reasonable price and not having to wait months for them.
