Are there too many of these now?
I remember when they used to do droppps once a month or so.. then they tried twice a month.. Now it's always twice a month and there could be an extra holiday one.
Within 3 years they have made a little under 400 pops via this method... IDK.. they used to be FIRE each set.. now meh? Obviously it has to do with the IPs they can get.. but still.. Just seems like normal flow for Funko these days.. Flood the market
Thoughts?

Re: Are there too many of these now?
At the beginning I tried to get into every drop, at least for the Royalty. The increased rate does mean I had to slow down because it's hard to justify $120+ on each release when you could literally end up with < $5 of NFTs if you don't hit any Epics or redeemables (which has happened to me more times than I can remember).
And honestly, I regretted a few of those Royalties too. I have no interest in My Little Pony, but I have a Freddy dressed like a character I have never seen before and a random Freddy holding a Simon game

I wouldn’t say too many as I guess it pertains to each individual interest but just like everything things get old and played out and hard to keep up with

Aweeeee MLP was great haha! It's Freddy as Spike and that one is pretty untique because it may have been the first time we saw Freddy as something other than a human! He's a little baby dragon!

I think it's a fair discussion. I feel like they could use some changes to spice things up a little. Hopefully the Droppp Arcade stuff will help address that a little. Beyond that, I consider this to be like every other thing from Funko - you have to pick and choose what YOU want. Because they operate in a volume game trying to get IP to fans in nice little plastic figures and square boxes.

I agree with you. You have to pick and choose what you want to get. However, I feel at this point they are forcing themselves to come up with SOMETHING to put in these drops even when those IPs have been somewhat exhausted (*cough* DC *cough). I liked the concept/idea for Series 2 for the Batman 85th... but their choices on characters and their box design was unappealing to me personally.

I got that one too because I was collecting anything and everything Freddy Funko. I liked the concept of Freddy as a creature/animal, so I picked it up through a redemption coin.
There are some others I regret getting.. but all in good fun!

Re: Are there too many of these now?
There are definitely too many drops. I guess we really don't have to go for each one, only the ones that appeal to you. At first when they were once a month it was fun getting each drop. Now it's becoming pricey going that route. I've been sticking to only what I really really want and most of the time I just wait to buy the token or even once in hand.

Yeah I agree that the recent drops lately have been meh. Also doesn’t help waiting to redeem drops then waiting again due to issues.

I do like that they are updating the piece count on the new stickers. I wish they would update them on the sets that have not yet shipped or been redeemed. Would love the piece count on the Alien set.

What do you mean? They are showing the actual "produced" count on the sticker? Where was this announced? I missed that somehow

My interest has been, and continues to be, in particular lines. I wouldn't say they are overdoing it but instead that they are appealing to more/different fandoms/product lines.

I agree with this sentiment. While I usually redeem the Royalty, it would be nice to see the drops more evenly distributed to create a sense of scarcity

Not even at 400 yet bub. But yes, close enough AND 3 years.

I just hope they have a mythic pack with just a standard 4" pop instead of the oversized ones. Seems like mythics are only for those sets with all Freddy's and they are either oversized pops or two packs

Good to know and sounds like this line is doing well for Funko.

Yes, they announced it on their blog and discord. Starting with 2025 releases, the stickers will have the produced amount.

It definitely seems like it’s too much if you’re going all in on every single drop. However, I’d love to see Funko switch it up every once in a while and do NFT redemptions for sodas, bitty pops, or even tees.
Funko interests:

-Mortal Kombat Pops!

I agree. It's a business. they're gonna go wherever the money is. Thats why rewind only did that one burst of releases.. because it was a bad idea. Bitties are too, but there is a cuteness factor to them that is keeping them around.
I think NFT drops are gonna get to the point where more and more people are going to realize these drops make the pops more expensive, but give Funko more money. idk

I think there are too many and the overall quality of the drops has been hit or miss.
Lastly, I think the burn counts display the overall saturation

Yeah, I didn't even think about the burn rate.. shows they just want to make as many as possible to make as much money as possible. The demand for the product is low, so they just want to create false fomo

I just think they need more variety, have a lot of the same series. Also just from my own opinion, I really have no interest in Proto or Franny; wished the Mythics were just a really rare standard 4" pop vs a super sized Freddy only series that will most likely come damaged.

Makes sense. I agree about the value of the pops for the money you’re paying. If you pay $30 for a premium pack and get one redeemable pop, then essentially you’ve paid $30 for it (NFT cards aside).

I used to rip a lot of packs, but for me ever sense the Ultra was introduced my packs have been horrible. It seems like I am getting more and more packs with 2 or 3 doubles in the same pack. I can't justify spending the money for 2 or 3 of the same $0.05 card. Even with trading it is not worth it to me.

Totally agree! The only time I feel like I will buy packs is if I want the royalty.. if I don't, I usually will just buy the NFT or Redemption coin later

I am hoping the Arcade provides a feasible and fair way to obtain limited drops. I am glad we are having more options. I like the callout that at this point you really have to determine what drop you really want. Otherwise your wallet would be in constant pain trying to get everything and the redeemables aren't guaranteed.

I think this Fan Rewards drop is a good thing. Adds some variety to their acquisition strategy. And choosing Valentines Day as a theme to kick it off with is great. I wonder what will be next...

Re: Are there too many of these now?
If you're going after every single drop, I can see how it would feel too fast, but I think their current schedule of a drop every two weeks is perfect. I'd hate to have to wait a month for the next drop, especially if I wasn't interested in the last drop. I love drop days being on Tuesday, then looking forward to Friday's reveal, and being hyped for a week until launch. I also think they've been consistent with the "quality" of the drops. Maybe it's because it was such a new concept at the time and we didn't care, but looking back at the first year of drops there were several "meh" ones sprinkled in with the good ones. I'd go as far as to say this past year's lineup was the strongest yet. A nice balance of heavy hitters with the weaker ones.

I’m pretty sure someone’s already mentioned this, but I’m guessing sustainability of the agency. Given how big the company grew in such a short amount of time there needs to be profit to compensate for that growth. You can always say that Funko started off as a mom and Pop shop, but then flourished into your bigger entity.

What growth are you talking about? They did somewhat start off as a mom and pop.. or pop and pop. They've been pretty decently stacked for a while. I doubt their margins are smaller than 40%. These pops are so cheap to make once they have the mold.

Within these past few years they have acquired Loungefly and Mando. That would be considered growth for the company.
