I did just this at SDCC Funko Pop Up Shop 2017. I took a family member. I bought two of everything. I sold and gave away some, but they were to awesome to take out of the boxes. I just added them to my collection.
I do, with certain pops. But i'm not a baller, so i don't do this very often.
Hey there, I'm Michael and I am an Iron Man Junkie! Iron Man POP! Collection (Production Pieces): COMPLETE Iron Man Proto Count: 50 Iron Man Wacky Wobblers: IN PROGRESS

I only get 2 of the one I really like. Mainly one OOB to travel around with me, work desk, photos..you know..fun stuff. And the other to shelf at home.
If I ever bought 2 of a pop its because I was dumb enough to remember I already bought it.... But I don't buy 2. If I can carefully open the box and take care of it storage wise while I let my pop free, then its all good for me

OOB for life, so I don't need multiples of the same pop.
I've been a pop collector for over 3 and a half years, and I in NO way knock anyone for the way they collect, but I'm still baffled why anyone would keep these in boxes. Even worse are the boxes that are turned sideways and stacked against a wall, so all you see is the box art. I'll never understand it, so I just move on and do things my way and still marvel at their wonderful collections!
It depends-mostly when buying online, from places that have been known to have horrendous shipping. Of course, sometimes I end up with two trashed boxes (Alpha 5...). I have been trying to get over this obsession, since I am out of room. I want to free my Pops, but have not been super successful so far. I have also done the buying of a Pop that I already have. (I do it on Quidd sometimes too...) DH makes me take pictures before we go to a Con, but now with some in boxes, I don't know if that is possible. If only there was some way to track them...

I often buy multiple when they are being shipped if the place has a good and easy return policy, exactly for the same reason, in case the box is damaged. If they're both in good shape then I might also trade or send to a friend who needs it. As for in the box or out, it really depends. Some boxes, like the Shining twins, have enough going on that I like to show the box. Other times it just depends on how I feel when I am setting up displays so even though I usually have them out of the box I still like to have an undamaged box if possible.
The only time I’ve bought duplicates is if I’ve heard they ship better in pairs. In some cases I returned the extra in store, others I’ve given them away or did just plain keep it. But I’ve never bought a duplicate for that intention though.
I do a lot of LED customs, on those I buy two so I can keep one original and chop up the other. But typically no, I only buy one. I've got hundreds and hundreds of Pops, it's hard enough to find places to store one of each, much less two!
