The wait for new DC Chase pops

Postby Sn0wKing1 » Wed Jan 04, 2017 2:08 pm

So maybe I missed the memo about this or something but what is going on with the DC Chase pop drought? And yes I know there was a chase batman wobbler, but I think we can all agree that pops are typically the most collected. Yet we haven't had a chase pop for any DC line in quite some time. Looking back on 2016 there have been a few just off the top of my head of Marvel chases: two deadpools, green goblin. We've already seen glam shots for tv/movie chases, a la Stranger Things, John Wick. Heck even today Funko showed glams for Guardians 2 pops and there's a chase Star lord there.

Idk maybe I'm in the minority or something but is anybody else wanting more DC Chase pops? Metallic Supergirl or Cyborg. Cowl down Batgirl? I mean at this point I'm really not picky lol

Shameless Plug for next HT Employee pop.... Half Silver Two-Face? ya? Ya? \:D/ ok I'll see myself out

I feel like Funko has been going a little crazy with the Chases lately, but that is a really long drought for DC. I'm sure we'll see one soon, but who knows what it'll be. Maybe we'll get a Wonder Woman or Justice League Chase to go along with one/both those movies.

I was thinking the same thing. I like most of them, but way too much to track down. The chase figure as a concept is becoming a bit watered down if you ask me. With that said, if that means they'll be easier to find, I'm all for it, but I'm not sure that'll be the case. Especially with the influx of flippers over the last year or two, the move to more chase figures is a little maddening as a collector.

I agree there are more overall chases lately, which actually to me makes this more off putting. All of these other lines have gotten multiple chases yet DC has remained untouched in the pop line. I'm not saying they have to flood the market or anything like that, but there were some awesome pops that came out this year(DC wise) that could've been made even better with a chase or two thrown in there.

I only rarely find chases in the wild, but often hear (on Facebook groups) of people in my area scouring store after store hour after hour and buying them all. This is probably why I never find them! Anyway, yeah more DC Chases please. And more Marvel ones too!

So I have listened to the 1st 2 official Funko Funkasts and either Cameron or Yoko said that Funko was getting back into the chase game with Pops. They didn't specify a line but did mention it pretty heavily I believe in the 1st podcast if memory serves me right.

I see your point, but looking for chases is half or more of the fun. I still frequent the only store I ever found a chase at for maybe one more opportunity. If we could stop employees snaking them before they get to the shelves to flip them, that would be a solution. The employee chase stealing is the real issue. How does HT get 20 batman dorbz with no chase?

Personally, I think we need more chase figures as makes hunting have a purpose, instead of sifting thru commons.

As someone who has NEVER found a chase in the wild in over 3 years of collecting I'm a bit conflicted about more chases. I love some of the figures, but just accept that I am going to have to pay ebay prices for them, which is a total bummer.

We just had 3-4 DC chase Dorbz. I think it's a pretty good indication that there's gonna be big POP chases in the future. It's gonna be sweet.

I believe that a Wonder Woman DC Bombshells with Chase was found on a preorder list, and there is a rumor that there will be a Joker Bombshells Pop! with a black and white, 1/6 Chase.

I want NO MORE CHASES. lol Chases for me mean having to buy them on eBay from flippers seing I can never find any in the wild! I'm currently looking for the DC Flashpoint Batman Chase Wobbler (My stores don't even stock Wobblers so I have no chance), the White Lantern Batman Chase Dorbz (my GameStop is the only one who stocks Dorbz near me and it's only their exclusives), and the Heffalump Pop! Chase, and I'm trying to prepare myself to hunt for the Stranger Things and Star Lord chases. I know I won't be able to find anything listed above, so the less chases the better for my wallet! lol

Fair point, but the hunt doesn't drive my collecting. I like the hunt, but nowhere near as much as just collecting the actual figures...mainly because I don't have time to hunt daily and at multiple stores/locations. The purpose for me is collecting stuff I like, not hunting for chases that feel mostly unattainable because of flippers. I have found a few chases in the wild and it's awesome, but it's just not reasonable to assume I'll have a realistic shot at most of them. It's a double edged sword...more chases makes it more fun, but also more frustrating.

I like it when chases had a ratio of 1:36 but I guess it won't happen anymore due to so many collectors and Funko trying to please everyone. I also like the old DC metallic chases =)

I've been buying Funko products for around five years now, and hadn't found any chases - until last fall. I found seven in three months. I think with higher production numbers overall (due to more peeps buying!), and more "regular" collectors getting savvy, it may end up slightly easier now to find a chase. And the 1/6 chase dorbz don't hurt either.

I think that is the case for me as well, its too difficult to find a chase even at 1/6 because the store employees know about them too. Before, store employees didn't even know about chases and thought all of them were the same. Hope you find many more chases in the wild for retail :D

I think the issue is less that people want to be rid of them than that it is increasingly impossible to find them "in the wild" due to store employees and flippers buying them up. Like many of you, I've spent countless hours digging around looking. I've found one ever and my friend found one and gave it to me. That aside if I've wanted one, I've bought it. I realize it's all "the name of the game" now as Pops continue to grow in popularity as well but doesn't make looking any less frustrating. I also don't think that will stop most of us from doing so anyway! :D

Even at 1/6 it is just too hard to find them. Everyone knows and employees usually pluck them out before anyone has a chance. The best chance is probably to order online and get lucky, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a chase as you didn't find it in the wild. I would rather Funko move to more limited pieces through store exclusives instead of chases that never even make it on the floor.
