Renly Baratheon - Why So Rare?

Was adding my collection to PopPriceGuide and I couldn't believe the value of Renly. He was just a standard Game of Thrones POP I bought awhile back at Barnes and Noble, not an exclusive or anything. Any idea why this one is so rare/valuable?

his run was smaller than most, and then he got retired and then people went crazy on ebay and fb with sales

I think he was one of the first to be retired, too. I know as soon as I heard he was retired, I quickly bought him. Glad I did!

How do you hear when they're retired?

I'm always upset I missed out on Renly. But usually when they're retired, they show up in the Vault on the Funko site.

Funko has a section on their site which is sporadically updated with new Pops added to the Vault. Usually once a Pop gets vaulted (retired was their old term before the vault idea) you start to see them vanish from store shelves because people want it before it disappears for good or bank on it possibly going for big $$$ later if you're into gambling with your money. Pops can stay vaulted for a long time and never raise in value so its hit and miss. Stuff in the Vault is no longer in production, but it sounds like Funko is reserving the right to re-release stuff later if the demand is high enough like they recently did with a few older Star Wars pieces.

How do you hear when they're retired?

I usually find out via newsletters that I sign up for.

he was super short packed since he wasnt a super popular character and prob was just made to fill out the series with a "filler" character... thus making him harder to find than the others

At one point right after he went vaulted I went into a super small mom & pop toy store nearby and remember them having just like 10 Renly Pops and a few Petyr Baelish. I ended up buying one of each and jokingly telling my gf that Renly would skyrocket in price eventually because he lasted all of 3 or so episodes before he got killed (SPOILER!). Lol. What a pointless character to get a Pop.

Like everyone is saying, and it happens all the time especially with those older pieces, some side characters are often a small run compared to the main characters, they get vaulted/retired, and then everyone wants them to complete their sets.

Haha! Yeah, he didn't last long. But holy crap, the crown is AMAZING on that Pop! Joffrey's too. Funko has really killed it on a lot of the GoT Pops.

Hi Darigon, thank you, I appreciate it! I built it out of black foam core with red and blue LED lighting and it's inside an Ikea Detolf case with white LED strips. I have a thread with more info and pics, I'll send you a link when I get off this phone and onto a laptop!

Thank you!! My Pop scenes have been on hold for a while as I'm in the midst of a huge reorganization project that will finish with the renovation of a spare room into a work/ display room. Once I get that done I can get back to cranking out some new scenes as I'll have a place for them

Not having Renly is putting a serious damper on my completing my collection going to have to get him at some point. I wonder if I should just bite the bullet now or wait to see if he drops some in price.

Thank you! I built it, it's all made out of black 1/4" foam core hot-glued together and housed on a shelf inside an Ikea Detolf case. The lighting is all LED strip lighting. There's more info and pics here:
