Does anyone else feel like...

Postby dpants5150 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 1:05 pm

Does anyone else feel compelled to collect the whole set once you buy one pop from a certain series? There'll be times I'll buy one and think, "Man, now I have to finish this set." Right now the sets I'd like to complete are the X-Men, TMNT Guardians and Ghostbusters. I also pick up random Batmans when I find one I don't have.

Just wondering how everyone else goes about their collecting. Do you usually just buy singles or do you try to get the whole set?

Also, has anyone gotten word of the release dates for the Guardians villains and the Age of Ultron sets? I saw in another thread that Gamestop had the Age of Ultron ones up for pre-sell but had to take it down. And I know the Guardians villains just say February. Do they ever give an actual release date or just the month?

Gracias to anyone who answers. Happy collecting.

If you're a completionist, perhaps. I personally buy only what interests me, even if its only one from a set of many.

I prefer to buy all or most of the characters to a set in order to make a complete picture or story. I display out of the box. I'm not going to one of the MANY people that claim they have OCD, but I will say that it would irk me to have Scarface standing next to Elsa. I try to have my collection make sense.

Haha, I understand the OCD thing, obviously it's not true OCD but yeah I get real particular in lining them all up and finding spots to display them. Planning on building some shelves pretty soon.

The only set I care to complete would be my Star Wars set. Other than that I just buy the ones I like, mostly batman. For example I don't really care for Disney but I ABSOLUTELY love the way tt prince John turned out I would get him without even putting any thought about the rest.

It depends on the set. Most of the time I do but I won't go for all of the variants. With as much stuff out there now, I don't need 8 versions of each character if it's the same mold done in 8 different ways.

I only collect the characters I really like or if they're the main character of the series or movie. From Buffy, I just have Buffy. The only other one I'd wanna get would be Vampire Spike but he's hard to find. From Arrested, I have Michael and Tobias. With TMNT, I just have the core four. If I had the money, perhaps I'd be more inclined to complete sets but then again, spacing in my house would be more of an issue than it already is.

I don't really need an entire set, but I do try my best to keep things in pairs and even numbers. Which at times can cause me to get more in a set than I really love.

I am sooo glad i'm not a completist. I don't have the space, and I just don't feel that need to have all pieces of a set. I think its cool when others CAN be completists and display all the items properly. But, for myself it just wouldn't work out.

I just pick and choose what i think looks the most cute. I think the closest I've been to a complete set is the True Blood series. Only person I don't have is Pam. Oh welps.

With Disney I am a completionist, but even then I wont get like the hipster variants nor most of the other ones he only ones I did get were Metallic Merida because I thought it made a good set of wardrobe for her, and Frozen Anna as it seemed a perfect moment from the film to have captured in Pop form. And I'm kind of a completionist with the MCU, I only get MCU from Marvel and only 1 of each character. It started as just the Avengers but then I got Iron Patriot, and the Guardians of the Galaxy team, and the Asgardians because they are all key characters, and I'll be getting the Guardians wave 2 and the NEW Avengers characters plus Iron Man. Star Wars I am very picky, even more so with DC, otherwise I look at the whole wave, if I like more then 3/4 I'll just get the whole thing.

I used to but then I started to have a space problem. Now what I like dictates what I buy or I would have pieces that I like less than others just to complete a set.

I am a completionist in every sense of the word. It is really aggravating some times as I buy one pop that I like and am compelled to buy the whole series or every character. I do this with comic books as well. My pop addiction started with buying a single BBT Sheldon and then I had to have all the Sheldons. From there it led to getting the entire series and seeking out every variant. I won't even get into my Walking Dead addiction. That first Sheldon was 350 pops ago.

Im like you after i get one i feel like i want to get the others to make the set. I tend to on most but don't always go for the variant unless i find one that looks better than the original.

For me, it's weird. For some I do feel like I'd have to complete the set if I bought one of them, for others, not.

For example, I saw Jafar yesterday and thought he was really cool looking, but it would be weird for him to be the only Aladdin FP I have. I would feel like I would have to at least get a couple more Aladdin FP's.

But I would have no problem only getting a Batman FP while not getting Robin, Joker, etc.

it varies for me from genre to genre.

I know deep down I'll never be able to get all of the ones I want, because a lot are retired and are too high priced for my tastes, or I am so busy focusing on one group another goes out of stores and I can't find them for reasonable prices.
I collect a lot of groups, Marvel, DC, Supernatural, Horror and a few others here and there, but there aren't many I plan on collecting the whole group. I'll probably get all of the Supernatural, and all of the Firefly group once they are all out, but Marvel and DC are too large. I know I'll have a huge Star Trek group eventually as well, so the idea of trying to collect all isn't possible for me.

Buy what you like. If you leave a set unfinished so be it.

You might look at a set and think 'Man, I gotta get those last two characters' today. But in six months, you'll be looking at your shelves and thinking 'Damn, I wasted a TON of money buying all those pieces I bought just to finish my sets.'

Then you'll post them for sale and everyone will think 'Wow, wasn't that guy just bragging about completing all those sets, look at him flip all his stuff.'

Then there'll be a big blow out over flipping and who's a jerk and who's not.

Then someone will complain about your prices and shipping. Someone will get called a name. The Mods will get involved, people will get their feelings hurt and you'll stop collecting out of spite.

Or maybe not.

Buy what you like.

LOL yeah! I know I'll be holding back on some sets myself, and even some random pieces, simple because I know a lot of cool stuff is coming soon and I want to have the money and space for them. Trying to complete sets or even buying every single piece you think is cool "now" might not be the best way. I try to buy more of the pieces that mean something to me overall, that way I know in a year it will still mean something and I won't want to get rid of it to make room for something new.

I have two requirements. Ones that I like, and exclusive ones. I don't get exclusives that I don't like either. Also, I lean towards the classic body more because I love the uniformity of pops when they are displayed!

I only buy the pieces I like the most, but I also try to have at least two from the same theme, so that they don't look out of place on their own. Right now Hiccup is all alone, and it irks me. lol I need to get Astrid and Toothless.

Agree with the at least two from each theme thing. I am kinda leaning toward completing GOTG since I have all wave 1 plus Baby Groot. But I try to stay away from variants like red pot Groot.

+1, I do the same thing unless with Starwars (which I love since I was a kid). I did buy Jar Jar Binks who I don't particularly like! LOL

I do have preferred lines like Starwars, The Game of Thrones, The Hobbit and Breaking Bad.

Whether or not I want to complete the set depends on how much I like the show/movie/whatever the set is from. But mostly I just pick and choose the ones I like. It would become far too expensive if I tried to complete all of the sets of different Pops I have.

For example I love Adventure Time, I have the whole set. And even the characters I don't like as much, I'm still happy to have them.
On the other hand I LIKED Frozen, but didn't LOVE it, so I'm quite content with just having Anna and Elsa, and don't feel any desire to buy the rest of the characters. Same with GotG, I have Rocket and Dancing Groot, and that's all I want.

Like some others have said, I always like to have at least one complementary Pop. It bothers me that I have Tigger on his own, but will probably never get Winnie the Pooh because he's too rare and expensive now. I also have Tinkerbell, but it just won't feel "right" until I get another Peter Pan character to display next to her.

I assume I will regret some of my decisions to not complete. I have stitch but no lilo, Skeletor but no He-Man, Rocky but no Bullwinkle. I also buy Pops that look really awesome yet have no connection to like Deathwing and Thrall from World of Warcraft, and that new Gold Spongebob! No one can tell you how to collect though. You gotta do what feels right.

No, not at all.
I buy what I like and that is it. If I like 3 out of the 4 POPs in the set...then that is all I get. If I buy the regular version that doesn't mean I need the metallic or the glow-in-the-dark versions as well.

The only sets I complete is Star Wars (every character and variant) and Game of Thrones (not every variant though, but every character is accounted). The rest of them, I collect based on what I like.

I just get the ones I like. I haven't even seen the Hobbit movies yet but when I saw Gold Smaug in Hot Topic it was an impressive PoP and I bought it. Same with the Glow in Dark LaMuerte - she's a beautiful PoP and I will probably never get around to seeing that one. I am currently fighting the urge to complete series 1 of the Disney PoPs because they are getting hard to find and I actually like most of the characters!
