In? Or Out? Keeping your wobblers in the box.

Postby tymboslice » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:50 am

So I've collected Yoda action figures for nearly 20 years. I've never opened one. So what I thought was inherent with collecting figures of any sort, was keeping them hermetically sealed. After scouring tons and tons of your pictures, you guys rarely do this. So with my pops and my wacky wobblers, I've kept them in the box. Can someone explain to me the difference in perceived value between an opened item and a factory sealed item?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Well, these aren't sealed. I guess they are meant to be enjoyed.

The POP and wobblers aren't "sealed" so the value doesn't go down if it's taken out of the box. A lot of people display some of theirs out of the boxes in display cases while a lot prefer to keep them in the box.
The only POP that I can think of that would lose their value OoB are the first DC clamshell ones (there are only 4 characters of them). Wobblers are fine though as they aren't sealed either.
So feel free to take them out if you want or keep them in. There is no right or wrong.

I think the wobblers I have that come with a box stay in the box, mostly because I like the artwork on the box. However, I have the normal and chase versions of all my wobblers, so you really can't see the metallic base... hrmm, might have to do something about that.

I understand they're not "sealed", per se. But they are shipped in a box. I like the squareness and symmetry in displaying mine almost like a graph. I was just curious as to how other's valued their displays. I'm not downgrading one way or another. But as for keeping my Bone Daddies in the box-I'm torn. The LTJ bases say "Less Than Jake" but the packaging on them is custom for those variants. It's like I need two of each!

Although I really like the box art, the Wobblers (to me) look significantly better than the box--and are the reason I bought them. Out of the box you get to see the whole figure. Some choose to leave them in the box for dust control, though you can get acrylic display boxes for that, but that's another significant expense.

Boxes can be displayed behind the freed Wobbler, that way you can see them both. But for value, as long as you remove the Wobbler (or PoP) with care, it doesn't matter.

And if you like the orderliness of displaying them in precise rows and columns, you can do that out of the box; of course, sometimes letting them run wild is even better :D

When I get to unpack my collection and properly display them, I want to have the normal piece boxed, the chase piece in front unboxed, showing off the chrome base, and the proto next to it.

p.s. Jacob, I will forever be jealous of the 1/12 Freddy Starks and the Green GITD Freddy Hulk...

Some are boxed, some aren't. The problem is that in the early days of Funko the box art was incredible, so a lot of them are still boxed, but then again I have a whole room devoted to Funko.

I think alot of it depends on how you display is laid out and how much space you have. The majority of mine are Star Wars, which are pretty consistent in size, but you loose the ability to differentiate between a chase and a regular if they are in their original boxes. just my 0.00001cwop
