Proto authenticity question

Postby JJMITMAN » Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:39 pm

I have read through any and all the proto question threads that I could find and haven't been able to find an answer to this question. I bought a proto off eBay and was inspecting it once it arrived. All looks good as it doesn't have any paint residue or Signs of being a fake like that; however, it does still have the made in China imprint on the bottom as well as the other legal mumbo jumbo. With this being my first proto I was curious about if that is typical or something that should be a red flag for me?

Also does anyone have a color gollum proto to compare?

Thanks for any help with this. Just want to be sure I get the real deal.
Jesse.

only one proto I have doesn't have that information on the bottom. most of the others with it are from gemini so I'm assuming they're legit.

Just checked 2 of my marvel protos, they have that stuff on the feet as well. Probably shouldn't worry about it. One proto I checked from Fundays, straight from the source, and the other from Gemini, from the source's source.

The majority of pop protos have imprints on the foot. Some older wobbler protos it was hit or miss on if they had the imprint.

Hit or miss is the perfect way to put it. For example, I have 6 hand painted Wizard of Oz Wobbler protos (probably one of the last waves to have hand painted pieces). Considering they were all done at the same time, 4 have no imprints but 2 do.

All of the Hobbit POP! protos (white and colored) have the imprints on their feet.

Awesome score!
