Funko Display at Work

Postby MasterKenobi » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:37 pm

I teach gifted English in high school. My classroom is mostly Beatles, superheroes, and Monty Python posters. However, I do have one bookshelf that my students seem to like. My Funko (and a little Vinylmations) collection. I have a bunch more at home. But here's my work collection:

Very cool,

I have 10 running along the top cabinet in my classroom too. That's quite a collection in the class, you have a either an excellent class or a very trusting nature!

I think they fear death if they touch them. LOL. I do need to organize em a bit better. I also have a Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, and all the Walking Deads on the way. Can't wait until they see those!

I teach elementary, so most of my collections aren't really appropriate for school, but I do have some Dr. Seuss wobblers in my classroom. Will probably get the Where the Wild Things Are wobblers eventually also.

You need to add 2 security cameras on the top corners of your cabinet and maybe a laser gun and an alarm just to be safe. You have some hard to find pops in there.

I have a 5/6 class so I've got Green Arrow, Hawkman, Boba Fett, Gandalf, Thor and Loki, and a couple of others. I even got two from some students to add to the collection for Christmas...a Jabba and a Spider-man!

Yeah my room has about 40 posters in it. Off the top of my head, about 10 Beatles posters, 5 DC/Marvel posters. Tron and Tron Legacy, Dr. Who, Liverpool Football Team, Monty Python. Dark Knight Rises posters, 6 Star Wars, and about 10 other music artists posters. Oh and a bunch of my alma mater, UGA. :)

I would never be a teacher with all those dorky "teacher things" on my wall. haha

haha I might. The Black and White Captain America is probably the one I paid the most for. 9 inch Batman chase I found at a B&N for 29.95. Then I also love the Comic Con exclusives!

Nice! I teach 2nd, and I only collect the pop! Rocks and all LTJ funko stuff. I don't think the Sex Pistols would fly :) My husband would never let me bring his Star Wars Pop!s in and that's all that would really be appropriate. Well, I guess my Frankenberry would be too, but the regular and metallic are keeping the Freddy and crazy color proto company and I'm definitely not bringing those in!

I guess the full name of my class is Advanced Placement Literature for Gifted Learners. Gifted English seems more concise. I teach at the high school and local college at night. I also have a different song playing when the high school kids enter the room. Beatles, Nirvana, Johnny Cash, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Van Halen, and Notorious B.I.G (clean version of Hypnotize) have been on the playlist this past couple of weeks. Extra credit to students who know the song. :)

Hey Matt,
I have some star wars pops around my work station at work and I was accused of having a star wars fetish by some person visiting from the IT department. I had no idea how to take that one..... Felt like asking them to tell me about "their" childhood that they would say that to a stranger. :)

Granted, I did have the "slave" leia.....

With the push for differentiation as best practices over the past decade or so, they've dismantled most of the gifted and remedial classes in Ontario. Gifted still exists, if you qualify based on a grade four standardized test, then you go to a gifted "site", another school for one day every 10 day cycle. There are no longer self contained classes.

In high school they didn't really differentiate between gifted and advanced except for grade 9 and 10, then everyone was in together.

They literally change it in my state every couple of years. last year I taught "Gifted Writing" and rotated from the middle school to the high school. This year, they decided to pull the gifted (and some honors) kids into a new advanced class. I just get tired of telling people a new "class title" every year haha. It's English for smarties yo! :D

Frankly, most school systems view differentiation as ignoring the gifted and just focusing on the borderline kids they hope to get to pass a standardized test. Pretty sad.
