New HT Mystery Pops

They said no returns on the mystery boxes, even if unopened. Stores have turned people down as well.

I returned 3 unopened ones in Tennessee. The store took them back as long as they were not opened.

Mine still haven't arrived either, and I was one of the first orders. They can keep the boxes and just refund me at this point.

I receive my four by mail. All Stingray. Feeling foolishly optimistic, I picked one up at the store tonight. Yep, I now own five Stingrays.

I think I am done with the mystery boxes.

^ That sucks and I'm on the same page. I ordered 4 the first time around and received all 3, this time I ordered 5 and received 2/4, not happy. I'm cashed out on these mystery boxes pretty much from here on...

I just took one of my (many) stingrays out of box and put it next to everything else loose, and I must say the orange they used is amazingly bright. I love the pop tbh... just not enough to have 6 of 'em.

I enjoyed the first round of mystery deadpools, but this one I went too deep on and got burned. I'm upset that I got shipped 5/6 Stingrays, but I shouldn't have been buying 12 boxes between in-store and online chase-hunting anyways.

What I find really odd is how few Slapsticks we are seeing in comparison to Stingrays. They should be showing up about equally, but there seem to be about 3 Stingrays to every slapstick, very weird.

We bought 6 and got 3 Stingrays, 2 slapsticks, and one common Mad Cap. Once I got my hands on them, I was very surprised at the noted weight difference.

Stopped by the mall just now. About 15 mystery boxes still there, and all were displayed in the front window. None were the heavies.

OK, so here is my crazy story... some of you might remember I said I was going to sit this one out, and some may also remember I mentioned having a buddy that bought two orders of four each using two different coupons. Well I asked him what he had gotten and he said he hadn't opened them yet. Said he was having buyer's remorse (don't we all). I mentioned to him that the store might not take them back... well one thing led to another and I bought them at cost. He never even opened the shipping boxes so what the heck.

So I opened the first shipping box and felt the Pop boxes, and as others have mentioned it's real easy to tell Madcap because the brim of his hat pokes the front of the box. There was only one in there, so I opened that and it was a regular. I opened two more out of the shipping box and got the other two regulars. So just in the first box I was three for three on the regulars. I didn't open the fourth Pop, instead I opened the second shipping box of 4. Felt around and it just had one Madcap as well. I started to open the shrinkwrap and was nearly knocked over by the fumes! Having heard other people mention how much the chase smelled, I thought no way. Oh yes, yes indeed.

Buying them was worth it just to see the look on my buddy's face lol

So out of 8 I have the full set of 4 and haven't even opened the other 4 boxes yet :-)

EDIT- my son wanted Slapstick and Stingray so he opened the other 4 boxes which had 2 of each. So out of 8 boxes the split was:

1 x Madcap
1 x Madcap chase
3 x Stingray
3 x Slapstick

I have a customizing idea for the extra Slapstick and Stingray so it ended up being a perfect breakdown :-)

11 stingray
6 slapstick
2 madcap
1 metallic madcap

Now in addition to weighing them at HT, you have to put your nose into that little missing hole in the shrinkwrap on most of them and take a big sniff? Haha.

I got my 5 from online and ended up with 2 Slapstick, 2-Stingray, and 1-Non chase Madcap. Not sure if it's worth even going to the store at this point but I will be in the area of one and might take a look.

Thank you, normally I don't have much luck at anything involving chance but I guess it was finally my turn lol

If word on the smell had gotten out sooner I have no doubt HT stores would have been filled with people snorting Pop boxes, wouldn't that have been amusing lol

Finally got my orders at HT...out of 15 boxes, I opened 3. 2 Madcap and 1 Stingray. The remaining 12 are all Stingray and Slapstick. About half and half, if I remember correctly. Slapstick is the lightest, while Stringray is in between the two, in terms of weight. I may try to return them to the store...or exchange for....I don't know what.

There was a guy that went into Hot Topic to return 4 Mystery Boxes and he was told they would not accept them. Because they were getting stuck with overflow stock of them and since they know people are weighing them , the manager went on to say that Hot Topic was reserving the right to not accept returns due to ending up with mystery pops no one else would want either. I thought that was interesting, they did however have about 50 boxes of the current Mystery Pops on the shelves .....

My store didn't have any left when I returned mine, so that might be a good indicator if they will accept the return.

That would be kind of a dumb reason to not accept returns. If they have overstock, that's their own fault. If they can't sell them, they need to put them on sale/clearance. Only reason they shouldn't accept returns is if the box isn't sealed. They dropped the ball on this one.

I had a fit with the person working at my local HT. I bought 5 mystery pops online...After opening 3, I had all the variants except the chase. I left the other two sealed as I knew they were not the heavier chases. So, I thought I would exchange them at the store. They refused to exchange them because I bought 5. Apparently, if you buy 5 or more, you can't return or exchange them. They claim this is to discourage flippers. I'm all about rules discouraging flippers, but, flippers resell, they don't return/exchange. I tried telling the guy that at no time was this policy outlined when I purchased it nor on my receipt. Not to mention the fact that there are 4 versions of the mystery pop which encourages collectors to buy more than 4 to ensure they get the ones they want. He pretty much made me feel as if I was doing something wrong. Clearly the person working there enjoyed being an a**.

My order of 10 arrived today. 5 red, 2 yellow, 2 Madcap and 1 chase. I hate that I had to rely on ordering them online to get the Madcaps, but that's part of the game. I probably won't be participating in the next round of mystery boxes if there is this weighing/sniffing/feeling the box garbage that allows people to cherry pick. It's not really a "mystery box" when it was this obvious. I already have people at work interested in some of my dupes, so it's not a total loss.

Honestly, I think it's great they don't accept returns. It makes it too easy for flippers to go in and wipe out the premium figures and leave the stores with the leftovers that nobody wants. The only people that would buy these now would be the casual shopper who doesn't know all of the details of the "mystery" boxes, and ultimately Hot Topic stores will get stuck juggling excess inventory around until they can clearance them out.I don't think there's a sweet spot that will make everyone happy, but at least by refusing returns on these you can fight the hoarding by flippers.

Between my friend and I we bought 30 boxes. Out of the 30 we received 8 madcaps, none of which are chase...
Now I'm stuck with 22 boxes of unopened Stingray/slapstick and 7 madcaps (took away one for my colection).
Worst part is I had someone offer to sell me their chase in store for $40 and I turned it down thinking I'd get at least one wother the 30 we ordered...

Has anyone noticed any errors with the actual mystery box itself? After looking upon one of the boxes I bought in store, I noticed a sticker placed on the box "limited edition". I carefully lifted the sticker up and printed on the box it read "limited editon". Did anyone else get an error box?

They are ALL like that, with the sticker covering the typo. They mentioned this in the Periscope unboxing video as well.

I received my shipment of these on Saturday (SUPER delayed in comparison to most others that also ordered the night they went up)...and was able to purchase them in-store. I was lucky enough to get the whole set (minus the chase) in person. So, (to save $30) I tried my luck at returning the ones I ordered online from Hot Topic, and had no problem at all. Boxes were still sealed (obviously cant return them if they are open), and I had the receipt.
