A friend of mine went to the HT in Tanforan (San Bruno CA) yesterday and the employee there told her a lady had come in with a scale and bought a lot of "heavy ones". ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

What's the point of "mystery boxes" if you let people mess with them?

I'm willing to bet that PopCultcha gets these in, including the metallic Madcap, which won't be a chase for them. The way these boxes were done is BS...probably the last time I do this. I was able to get a complete set, so I guess that's all that really matters.

Wacky stuff. I have not seen a scale used since the 'sports memorabilia cards' (e.g., game used cards) craze a ways back.

These are STILL for sale on their website. I had 2 orders...one for 10 and one for 5. I think I am going to return all of them to the store once they arrive.

I assume a lot of the flippers will order online, keep the heavies and return the rest in store. Having said that buying any at this point in store is just unwise.

Hot Topic says there are no returns on their website. The girl yesterday in store also turned away people who wanted to return mystery pops, both sealed and unsealed.

I hope they stop this mystery box nonsense BUT if they do it again I hope next time HT wises up and what they should do is keep the pops at the register customer walks in and says I need 15 and the cashier/employee just hands you 15 and you get what you get. No more letting ppl pick which ones they want or trying to feel for weight or texture or in this case feeling for a brim of a hat smh or bringing scales and all that craziness. Make them truly a MYSTERY like they are supposed to be

I'm waiting on the two I ordered online, but was thinking about going to see if any were left at my local store since I have the afternoon off. Sounds like that's a bad idea.

Currently waiting on my online order. I only ordered 6.

Friend of mine picked up 4 for me at a local Hot topic while I was at work and it ended up being 3 Stingrays and 1 Slapstick. :(

I checked my local Hot Topic today (didn't have time yesterday), and they still had a ton left. I bought just one, which was the only one that felt slightly heavier than the others. I lifted each one to check what the weight felt like just in case there was a one in a million chance that everyone who checked them yesterday missed one. It ended up just being a Stingray, but that was the one I wanted the most from the three regular Pops, so I'm happy. The box inside was in mint shape, which is the first Pop I've ever gotten that I could say that about. This is the first time I've gotten a mystery Pop.

My Hot Topic did this. It's a good system. Controls the crowd, and everyone gets what they want.

If they're gonna do that, they could do it before they even brought them out to set up. Doesn't matter where they are once the store opens. Look at poppetmaster's experience.

yeah that's what I meant, opportunity to be super shady still exists currently and can still exist even if they don't let the customer pick themselves

Just went to my HT here in San Mateo CA lol they had like 15 left so I was let's see. Obviously they all weigh the same. And they all seem to has been "fingered" on the same spot tryna feel the hat. So it's obvious they've all b even messed with and played with. Obviously didn't buy any. Just sucks. But I mean. I just gave it a shot I thought. But I did order 4 online so I'll just wait for those guys I guess and only hope. :/
Sucks that most of the ppl who snatched the madcaps r obviously flippers. But oh well :) just sharing hahaha

My one of my local hot topics had about 7 to 9 of these left and I was joking with the guy about how people had talked about bringing in scales and he said he threw some people outa the store for that the day before.

I ended up just ordering a few online, I don't really mind which ones I get. They all look cool and I like that they all have different sculpts this time. Plus buying online was the better choice with a coupon and not having to deal with the crazy rowds at my store or people with scales.

I honestly don't have a problem with the mystery box system they have in place right now, which doesn't seem to be the case with a lot of you. Of course, my local Hot Topic is absolutely awesome, I went to buy my Mystery POPs and watched her cut the duct tape off of the cardboard boxes the POP! boxes were in, I even let her know that I was looking for the heavier ones (which i only bought 3 of, and got two regular Madcaps and one chase, and then gave the extra normal madcap to a younger collector who had skipped school with his mom to get these, which was awesome lol), and she kindly helped me out. Other than the fact that their were heavier boxes to tell a difference between the POPs, I don't have a problem with the current system. I do understand however, that their are people out their who exploit this system and would buy 10 heavy boxes at once, which just seems wrong in every way. Just wanted to put that out there, I do understand that my local Hot Topic may be one of the select few that are awesome, because I know some people have some very bad experiences with Hot Topic, which I think would be out of Funko's control, and the obvious flipper problem we know and love. Just wanted to put my two cents out there, hope that this wasn't a waste of a post.

I'm in the same boat. I think the mystery boxes are fun and my HT handled it just fine. Granted, the whole concept resulted in me buying way too many mystery boxes, but that was the choice I made. I honestly haven't read all the comments so I can't speak for everything, but alot of the complaints are petty to me. I am firmly in the camp that thinks you should be allowed to have a voice and use it to tell the world of your displeasure, but at the same time, you must realize that the only real way to enact change is with your wallet. If you're not willing to do that, know that your opinion is just that - an opinion...that isn't likely to change anything. Does that mean you shouldn't complain...absolutely not, but just don't take yourself too seriously. I mean, you do collect toys after all. Not that there is anything wrong with that... 8-[

Carry on and collect! :D

With all the above said, the previously opened boxes is pretty shady. I would not have bought them like that.

Went with online orders only as I figured with the difference in weight and not being able to get to a Hot Topic until 7 hours after they opened that there would only be Stingrays ans Slapsticks left. After reading the posts here I'm glad I made that decision. I have no problem with Hot Topic employees buying mystery boxes, but opening them up and then putting them out to sell is reprehensible.

I agree with you 100%, I love the mystery POP! Stuff they do every once and a while. Like you said, some complaints are very petty, and sometimes unjustified. But then you see things like the previously opened boxes and that just ruins the experience for everyone. I can understand complaints about those kinds of situations. Glad to hear I'm not the only one!

Picked up my online order that I had shipped to the store tonight. Got 2 stingrays and a regular madcap. The side of the madcap box was opened a bit, looked more like a unnatural open (like the shrink kinda split itself) I'm happy with the haul since I got a regular madcap and slapstick in store the other day.

the concept itself of a mystery box is actually fun, mystery minis are fun. the fact that you can just wait to buy them with no mystery on popcultcha and that in this run the weight was exploitable is pretty lame though. happy for everyone who got what they wanted and had cool employees.

I believe my order of four will be delivered today. I hope that I at least end up with two different ones out of the four that I could possibly get, I'd be happy with that. Otherwise, I'll just have three friends to give something to today which will be just as well.

Two stingrays and one madcap. Was hoping for my first chase but it'll come with time. Really at least wanted a madcap so I am satisfied.
