We can all blame Brett for getting us to buy Dorbz that's for sure. He's that guy that wears a trench coat in dark alleys with a bunch of Funko merch underneath it trying to slang it to passerbys.

That IS Brett exactly. Didn't even need to see a pic of him you painted that picture so well lol

Oh man, it definitely sucks for me, because as a Collector back all the way when Kidrobot was doing blind boxes, I loved buying almost everything. Now, even though Pops are pretty focused in their audience groups, they still find ways to make me buy everything: Disney, Star Wars, Glow in the Dark things, Netflix stuff, 80's cartoons, Hanna Barbera... They've got the perfect audiences to get people to buy. Everyone's addicted! Hahaha

I started relatively slow one or 2 here and there. but once those Walgreens spidey lines started coming out i went full force. Went from 15 to 50 to 100 within a couple month or so and haven't stopped. But what has kept me collecting has been the community. I have met some of my better friend cause if pops. Thanks funko

The main reason why I got into pops was just the size and variation that they had. I was never a big fan of collecting action figures or figures of that size. Then about maybe 4-5 years ago, when I took my 4th visit to hot topic that week (since going to the mall was the "cool" thing lol) I had found a batman pop from the dark knight rises line. I specifically remember having to choose between batman and bane and I chose batman just because I was more of a batman fan, which I beat myself up for that. I have had it on my shelf since then, then during black friday in 2015 I went into hot topic and saw they had a promo for pops. It was like 3 for $25 or something like that, and I found a cool chrome darth vader, gitd vault boy, and I think a dancing groot. They were so small and easy to put anywhere so that's where it started for me. I began to find out that MANY lines that Funko had for pops and was amazed! Then I found out about the retired pops that aren't made anymore, all the cool exclusives that get released during cons, and special store exclusives. At first I bought everything and anything that I thought was cool which made me realize how addicting it was. Then I decided to tone down and specifically collect certain lines to make it easier on my pocket. I can say I'm addicted to Funko and proud of it! :freddy3:

For me I bought my first POP in 2014 and then didn't buy another one for a very, very long time, like 2015 and then even then my collecting didn't really start to become true collecting and hunting until late 2016-earlier this year! Unfortunately for my wallet a lot of the POP's that have been coming out lately are ones that I'm very much interested in, especially with the fact that there's a nostalgia factor with some of them. Also I never should have discovered evilbay because since I got my first POP from there a few weeks ago there's been a tiny avalanche since then! But I will say for the few grail pieces (all Disney) that I've bought from there each of them were under PPG! Mainly due to either being OOB already or in the case of one that's coming next week a missing tail...which I honestly don't care about! Plus since joining these boards I feel like I found people who understand how these little figures can quickly take over your living space!
You can call me Danielle :)

Harry Potter, Disney, and POP's/Dorbz from my favorite movies/tv shows are my weakness!

My addiction began when I got a couple as gifts Christmas 2011, and it only got bigger after the avengers line in 2012. My collection has changed often as I try to not hold onto too many things, but being more active on the forum and google hangouts has created a lot more money spent and a lot less space.

Variation - the sheer number of properties that Funko has access to. (And that they keep producing cute versions of Iron Man at reasonable prices.)

I started picking up some of the characters I love and adding them to my overall vinyl, toy, art etc collection. Then it really picked up more & more. I've always had the want to have the whole set which is a bad thing lol

But I love that there are so many characters, themes, exclusives and so on. Keeps the hunt going for me. I also love that they look so neat displayed

My girlfriend bought a potted Groot, and I thought it looked pretty cool, but didn't think too much about it. During that time I was collecting Amiibos and I wasn't looking to collect anything else. Then one day, while looking for a few loose end Amiibos at the mall, I stopped in Hot Topic with my girlfriend and looked around. I stumbled on the Hot Topic exclusive Goku, picked him up and looked at the back of the box. I saw Frieza, Piccolo, and Cell! I bought Goku and wanted to try to find the rest that were on the back of the box. About a week later, I walked into an FYE just to look at the movies and I saw the rest of the DBZ ones that I wanted, I bought those and took them home! I was interested to see what other lines where under this Funko Pop design, and I was amazed with how many lines that were already released, and ones that I liked. Fast forward to the present and I've met a lot of local people who share the love of pops, my pop collection as grown, and I'm still continuing to hunt new releases. Needless to say, I've put the Amiibo collection on hold. lol

I picked a few up at cons, got some for free, very casual at first. I am a lifelong collector, mostly of comics. It ramped up when I joined the boards, sharing in the excitement. Then my first fundays and I was officially hooked.

Nostalgia most definitely...the price point helps...ummmm also admittedly despite some occasional rants I do genuinely love the look of Pop!s and out of the box they feel amazing to hold. Plus it is nice to be able to have every franchise / character interest in the same style / universe.

I like the design, the variations, and the fact that there's a lot of characters to choose from (movies, tv, cartoons/old, new) for all the ages.
And like someone else mentioned, nostalgia plays a factor too. Say, when I saw there was going to be a Batgirl Pop! from the 1966 Batman tv show, I was thrilled! That Batgirl was part of my childhood and an action figure/doll I never had as a kid: now I can have it. =D> I'd say nostalgia plays a big role in my collecting. Nostalgia and fandoms. :D

I've never collected anything before but I remember coming across the Minions ones a couple of years ago and thought oh they're cute, got a couple as Christmas gifts and then discovered there was Walking Dead pops, bought a few of those and that started the addiction!

As I'm in the UK they aren't as popular here (although that does seem to be changing recently) so I could only buy them online, which is when I discovered Pop in a Box, went through them all and thumbs upped pretty much everything I remotely liked so ended up with a lot that I don't mind but don't love which maybe lessened my interest a bit. I can't remember which line came out, could have been the Lost ones but something came out to re-light my interest so I went back through my PIAB list and thumbed up only ones I really love, joined these forums and now I'm more addicted than ever!

I've ran out of space in my original display area so have started in another room now too lol

For me, I enjoy the 'hobby' factor of it.

The pops themselves are great. Very cute, reasonably priced, wide variety of licences covering all of the main TV and movie franchises that I like etc.

But I feel like the 'addiction' part is caused by all the great things external to the pops themselves. The constant reveals means there's always something I'm looking forward to. It give a great sense of anticipation leading up to a release. It's fun to go hunting in the shops, and it's a great thrill when you come across one that you really want.

It's fun to chat in the forums, and Funko is great at connecting with their customers through Twitter and YouTube.

All of those things are what turned just buying a cool looking figure into a full blown hobby.

Indeed, very well said. It does almost feel like a lifestyle choice.

I'd also like to add that this place (forum) is a great escape from the harsh realities of offline life. The people here are great and it's always fun to see what new thread topics have been posted.

I'm not sure if anyone mention this before. But one reason I collect is for investing in the future. You never know when anything's value can skyrocket! For example, has anyone seen prices for certain Funko Pops? Along with Pops, I have some rare Pokemon cards that go for a lot.

I have been "collecting" for about 3 years now. It started with the Maleficent Pop because she was always my favorite villain, but then after coming across the Wicked Witch pop in B&N I started noticing more characters. After that I joined my local group not thinking anything would come of it until my first F.D.O. in 2015. I met so many people that have the same interest as I and it just fueled my collecting even more. Now I have way too many and my wallet cries a lot, especially when new Disney Pops are released.

I start collecting because my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, got me a loot crate box for christmas. It had the joker funko pop in it. When I saw it, it looked super cool. From that point on, I just started collecting them because I love the designs on them and the art that goes into them. Especially with the newer ones, I can tell the time that is being put into the molds and the details. Then I got into Comic Con 2015. My collecting really took off from here. My wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, works for the convention center, so she knew that Pop Asia line would be coming into town. I bought almost all the funko pops from there. Since then, I have decided to start focusing on specific lines with one offs there and there. I focus on marvel and disney.

I have always been a collector at heart.

We have been toy collectors our whole lives starting with the original Kenner Star Wars figures, return of Star Wars figures in 1995, GI Joe, He Man, Marvel X Men, McFarlane Toys, so why not add more toys to the game! Funko started for us with a couple Wacky Wobblers from SDCC a few years ago and it started adding up to a few Pop!, then came Funko Fundays about 5 years ago.

It just started with one. Then another, then it just exploded. There have been many days in the last few years where I've gotten up in the morning and looked in the mirror and asked myself, "What are you doing??!!" My collection just got out of hand really quickly, but each one of these Pops and Dorbz has a story or a memory, like going out Pop-hunting with the kids, or stumbling across a rare Pop, or obtaining a grail that you thought you'd never be able to find. Beyond that, tough, the friends I've met along the way, is just icing on the cake. I've met some really great, down-to-earth people that I can truly call friends, and that wouldn't have happened if it weren't for getting into collecting. Having said all that, yeah, they're absolutely addicting!
WHAT AM I DOING?!?!?!

That Joker Batman was one of my first exclusives as well. Still one of my favorites.

Since my wife and I don't have a home yet, a lot of my funko pops are at my cube or stored in our dresser in my parents garage. I always make sure that Joker is displayed because it is the very first one and has special meaning because it is from my now wife. It is funny when my wife tries to limit my spending on them because I always use that opportunity to remind her she started it. I do listen to her most of the time as she is reasonable in giving me freedom to buy, but keeps me under control so we can buy a house in expensive San Diego and start our family.

I'm a Batman collector and have been since the 89 movie hit. So when Pops came along, I thought they were a unique and fun interpretation of my favorite character. Back then, cutesy Batman toys weren't much of a thing, and this was a fun novelty. So I bought the first offerings at Comic Con.

Since then, Funko has continued to hold my interest by doing some obscure Batman versions not seen anywhere else in plastic. Zebra Batman, Bullseye Batman, Professor Radium Batman, Jungle Batman, etc. I love the look of my little Bat-army, and am hooked for the foreseeable future.

I've had to cut down my collecting habits as of late, as there's just too much Batman-related stuff out there. But Pops remain one of the few lines I'm still addicted to (also DC Collectibles' Batman: The Animated Series figures, Mattel's Multiverse 6-inch Batman-related offerings, and the occasional Hot Toy).

I'm with you on this. Not enough Batman out there but way too much...lol.

I am not in danger, I am the danger! A guy opens his door and gets shot and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!

I find funk pops addictive because they're totally sin free fun.
They look amazing
They have nostalgic value
They are great investments
I've never bought a pop and regretted it.
