Supposedly the newer mystery minis have multiple layouts for each set.

Oh awesome!I hope all Star Wars minis connect. It'd be kind of cool to mix movies.
The connecting bases make these even better! I haven't found any near me yet and I'm so excited about these!

Right!! I was a little put off by the ratios but seeing pictures and learning about the bases have brought me back up

Yeah, layouts will be worthless. None of the cases we've came across have had the same figures, let alone a set layout.
The connecting bases are the best thing to happen to minis yet.

Oddly enough, I used my Vader case layout as a guide to pull the 3 from the GameStop case and was able to get 2 I needed (trooper Luke, trooper Han) and another shadow trooper.
I'd be interested in comparing your layouts with my Vader one. Maybe over DM?

I would usually love to but the awesome gs employees mixed the cases up. Yay. I know what was in each case but not even close to where.

GameStop cases are always messed up because they usually individually price each box. Walmart and Walgreens are also tough because some stores take them out of the cases to put them on the shelves or into bins. I think I may have to rely on luck, and some help from friends, for these minis.

According to the GameStop I was just at, the Star Wars Episode 8 Mystery Minis have an expected release date of September 20!

This happens at BN too. I know from personal experience because if there's no room they get taken out of the boxes and stacked on the shelves. Sometimes the PDQs are just too big and we have too many things out.

I saw that at my local B&N the other day. It looked like they received two boxes of the same MM set so the second box was out of the box and they were all stacked on the first box and the shelf next to it. Some stores just don't have the space. I hope the stores near me get boxes and boxes of SW minis, though. That would be a great problem to have.

Well maybe, but not here. They weren't individually priced, the associate told me that they mix them up on purpose.
Because they're yahoos. They don't realize how difficult it can be without their games.

It must be nice to get more than one PDQ of a minis series

WHAT? That's just mean. If that happened near me I would go to a different GameStop (we have four stores within a few miles of each other). Unfortunately, that may not be an option for everyone. I'm sorry your GS is doing that. I think you should definitely fill out the survey on the receipt.

I had some luck since the two GS stores I talked to about buying a full case were willing to work with me. Plus when ThinkGeek got their shipment, the manager said they hadn't shuffled them. Even when I paid for the case at ThinkGeek and the cashier started to ring it up, she made sure not to disturb the top rows.

Well we have 13 gs within 10 miles. And this wasn't our usual one. They're amazing. This one is terrible, they treat collector's like garbage. I told the employee that we won't be back. He didn't care. So it's cool. C'est la vie.

I might buy a case if I can when they hit gamestops by me, that interlocking bases is too cool.

I talked to a guy who found them at a hot topic in TN. I guess they are one of those weird ones where they are showing up on east coast first.

I'm a Star Wars fan and these will be my first real jump into mystery minis. Are you guys saying that cases have a certain layout where each figure normally is? How do we find these? I'm trying to get as few doubles as possible.

Typically cases will have a standard layout, with only a couple of spots changing characters depending on the store or rarity. But from what I've heard these are all over the place. (As most of the other newer lines have been too.)

Ok thanks for the heads up. I think I'll just grab a few and see how it goes. If it gets expensive or redundant I may head to ebay. Or check here for trades. Some of them look really cool.

I'm not going to share all my tricks & secrets, but I will point out the following to those still wondering why Chewie is 1/8 probability...
1/8 = 3/24
Why is this relevant?
Mathematically, this means cases will either have 1 or 2 Chewies. Those cases with only 1 Chewie will most likely have a 1:24 to fill the void.
And so ends the math lesson for today.

In my opinion, if they were going to make 1/6 and 1/8 characters, they should have been the Stormtrooper and Jawa. Those are the ones collectors probably wouldn't mind duplicates of, rather than ending up with Leia and Chewbacca clones

This makes total sense. It reminds me of my son's Stormtrooper Lego army back in the day.

I keep looking and have yet to see R2-D2 anywhere.....him not existing is why, for now, I am skipping this set, unless he's some hidden exclusive I haven't seen.

Re: Star Wars Mystery Minis: Toy Fair Reveal!
One awful realization I had regarding the GameStop exclusives (and probably the others, since typically they are all structured the same). As with Spider-man Classics, there is going to be a GameStop layout that doesn't have any exclusives in it.
We know that there have to be at least 6 case layouts to have a 1/72 figure (6x12 = 72 so 1 per 6 cases). We know there are 9 figures guaranteed in every case (2x Leia, the six 1/12s, and a Chewie). That leaves 3 slots for rares. Based on math and the case layouts we've seen so far in this thread, these three slots must be:
Vader / Hammerhead / Obi-Wan / Trooper Luke
Chewbacca (dupe) / Trooper Han
Shadowtrooper / Snaggletooth
From the info in this thread (and the case I opened), we have the following cases:
Vader /Chewbacca / Shadowtrooper
Hammerhead / ? / ?
Obi-Wan / ? / ?
Obi-Wan / ? / ?
Trooper Luke / Trooper Han / ?
Trooper Luke / ? / ?
Here is the problem: Trooper Han is 1/24, which means it must be in exactly 2 more of the cases. However, there are three remaining cases with no exclusive.
More troublesome still: all the three non-exclusive rare figures are 1/12 rarity in common cases. That means there will be a GameStop case (and quite probably a Wal-Mart case and a Hot Topic case) that not only lacks an exclusive figure, but lacks any rare figure whatsoever.

If the ratios on the back of the HT vs GS boxes are to be believed then this is a truly ridiculous set. Obi Wan is labeled as a 1/36 in the GS case, but is labeled as 1/6 in the HT set. That makes NO SENSE.

Anyone have A pic of the back of the hot topic box? Curious of the ratios. And not sure why people complain about the ratios. Besides Vader every character is easy enough to get. Besides exclusives. But those are supposed to be difficult.

My complaint is that if a figure is a 1/36 in the GS box, the EXACT SAME FIGURE shouldn't be a 1/6 in the HT box, which is what Obi Wan is listed as. He's also listed as a 1/12 in the common case. It's bonkers.

Re: Star Wars Mystery Minis: Toy Fair Reveal!

This is the back of the Hot Topic box (not my pic) but can confirm it's right as I picked up four in a random pick today (edit: at my local Kinokuniya bookstore in Sydney CBD) - Chewie, Leia, Tie Pilot and Snaggletooth (ugh)

Yes, the ratios at different stores is pretty stupid. Bought half a case at GS today and was excited about my 1/36 Obi Wan until I realized it was super common with HT.

I'm also curious if stores that don't have exclusives have different ratios. I also pulled a Snaggletooth which is 1/24 for HT and GS but there are listings on ebay that says it's 1/12. It's all pretty confusing.

Multiple reports elsewhere of people getting cases with no Obi-Wan from Hot Topic. Also, if you look at the ratios, the math doesn't work if Obi is a 1/6: six listed 1/12 figures, plus two leias, and one guaranteed chewie is 9 figures. If you add two Obis, that would make 11 figures, with three 1/24s and the extra Chewie remaining for 13 figures per case, not counting 1/36s and 1/72s.
If Obi-Wan is 1/36 then the math works out exactly, and this tracks with the reports. So, I think we just have to assume Obi is 1/36 in Hot Topic boxes, which then gives them a similar breakdown to the GameStop boxes.
