Both are on the simpler side of customs (again not knocking the customizers), both are not made by Funko yet for some reason one sold for more. Very interesting topic on how rare an item is and then how that relates to cost
I'll give everyone MY two cents why Snake Eyes sold at $130 (technically close to $140) vs Venom at $55 considering I'm the one who sold the Snake Eyes.
1. Peak timing:
I have been making and selling customs for 12 years now so I know a thing or two about supply and demand and what items will be trending at what times of the year on the marketplace. Typically with most of the items I make, I plan things out about a month in advance. So, at the end of February/first of March, the idea of a Snake Eyes custom gets on my radar because G.I. Joe Retaliation will be hitting theaters on March 28th. I make the figure, list it on eBay in the same timeframe because of all 52 weeks of the year, that week is the one out of the year that G.I. Joe will appeal to the largest audience of buyers.
2. Something extra:
At the time I listed the Snake Eyes, none of the other custom Funko Pop figures that had ended in the previous 2 months had fully customized boxes. I got approximately 10 comments solely on this detail in addition to the other 2 dozen comments/questions about the figure and the box in general. I even had requests to make custom boxes and artwork for other peoples customs but I declined because it feels wrong to me to make a box with my logo on it for a figure made by another customizer.
3. Name Recognition:
While I may be fairly new to customizing Funko products (having only sold the first one a month and a half prior to Snake Eyes) I'm not new to the customizing world. Despite not having a personal website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, ect. I have a large fanbase from other forums, recommends from previous customers, people who have added me to their "favorite sellers" list on eBay, ect. I will occasionally have a past buyer who I've sold custom Transformers to for years and then one day reveal they are a huge NFL football fan and based off the quality of the Transformers they purchased, they know the quality to expect from me and are willing to bid top dollar for an NFL figure. The same idea holds for any figures that I make (including Funko now) plus the fact that I take several photos on each figure to show the quality the buyer will receive. Doing that allows the market to decide the worth of a piece.
