Wobbler Converts

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got a spring. Come inside and chat about Funko Wacky Wobblers (bobble heads, for the less sophisticated).

As a potential Wobbler convert who currently only collects Pop and Hikari, can someone give me a sales pitch? What makes them special to you and why should I drink the Wobbler Kool Aid? :)

Alex, funny you should ask. Here is a post I made on July 12, 2013. Enjoy.

.
.

Welcome to Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. Today we have a special episode in store for you:

In Search of the Wacky Wobbler

In the deepest, darkest parts of Funkoland, reside creatures of stoic beauty. They are the original inhabitants of this wide and varied land and exist in great numbers; yet, it is possible to drive across the plains and not see these creatures unless you’re looking for them.

With so many new Funatics, and most of you so agog over PoPs, I thought I’d shine a little light on another Funko line for fun—the Wacky Wobbler. Yup, it’s Friday night and this is what I’m doing.

This is not a post about one being better than the other; it’s just to inform and have some fun. The bulk of my collection is Wobblers, but I also collect PoP, Spastik Plastik, Fantastik Plastik, Funko Force, Bobble Breeze, Peek-a-boo Pop Ups, Nodniks, vinyl figures and cars, vinyl and wobbler banks, computer sitters, hand puppets, bookmarks, wall clocks, and mini blind boxes. Did you even know there was this many kinds of Funko—and there’s even a few more.

My collection of Wobblers is by no means as grand as many of the old time collectors—heck, I don’t even have my first star yet, but I do have over 500 Wobblers. So, I thought I’d just share a sampling of the spring-necked guys to entertain you—and perhaps sow the seeds for future Wobbler collectors.

And here we go…

Image

My favorite Wobblers are the ones that remind me of happy times as a youngster. For me this meant first and foremost cartoons…

Hanna-Barbera:
Image

Looney Tunes:
Image

Peanuts:
Image

Another huge part of my youth were the ad icons of the day. In a way, they were mini cartoons as the commercials always entertained.

Image Image

Image

Image

Funko also did a great job of creating original characters that somehow seemed very familiar…

Image

Image

Freddy, himself, fits into this category…and for many, Freddy Wobblers are the coolest thing in Funkoland.
Image

Image

Image

And then there’s the TV shows and movies we like to watch and the games we play.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I’m a bit old school, but there’s a ton more; e.g., Star Wars, Avengers, Iron Man, etc.

And there’s music, pop culture, and stuff that just looks so cool you are just compelled to buy them.

Image

Less Than Jake Bone Daddys
Image

Rat Finks
Image

Image

So, this was just a VERY small sample of the Wacky Wobblers that so many Funatics have come to love and treasure. If you’d like to see a whole lot more…

There’s John’s Funko Spreadsheet: http://www.funkospreadsheet.com/wobblers.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (you can check out just about every kind of Funko here).

You can also see just about every Wobbler ever made in FunkoFanJim’s museum: forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=39116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well, thanks for watching. Perhaps next month, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom will visit the dangerous jungles of Funkoland where we’ll find Monkey Assassins and Spastik Plastik.

WOW Scotty! Thank you for the very thorough and informative post! As someone born in the 80s, I don't have quite as strong of a nostalgic attachment to the older Hanna Barbera characters, but a lot of the others are very appealing to me! I love the Space Ace, Rat Finks, and Freddies! I will have to start doing some research in how best to procure some of these :)

Baxter, here are 2 posts on the topic from 2007 and 2008:

Brian wrote Sep 19, 2007:
Guys, this was not suppose to be leaked yet, as we needed to put finishing touches such as Rat Fink Pad Print on base etc...
Right now, we are still undecided, but it looks very much like a run of 100-200 sets only...
We will sell them directly from Funko, at $25 per wobbler OR $100 for the set of 5...
They do wobble and will come in a box with blister and sticker...
If you like these, our next set of Crystal will blow your mind!!!
We should be releasing the Rat Finks in late October....
We also have one more Rat Fink surprise coming your way as well...so stayed tuned!!!

Of course, as always, things change. On Jan 24, 2008, Brad from Cameron Collectibles wrote:
For you Funatics that don't visit the Vendor Section the 5 piece Crystal Rat Fink Wacky Wobbler Sets are now available through Cameron Collectibles. Each set is $125.00 and will be available to ship later this month. So come check them out. Limited to 100 Sets in the US. Comes with Rat Fink Boxes and inserts.

So, anyone know off the top of their head if these were released overseas first--or even after? If so where? That Toy Guy by chance? If they released 100 sets in the U.S., I wonder how many they released overseas?

My last 4 Funko purchases included a wobbler and, based on stuff I've seen in this thread (looking at you Space Ace), I can anticipate adding a few more to the party. I only have 4 at the moment but they are cool. Here they are in amongst the Spastiks and such:

Awesome thread, Scotty! And thanks for sharing, everyone! Nevermind the Dirk photobomb in the pic (not Funko, but fun though :D ). Here's my Wobbler collection...

26365

I'm not a complete convert yet, although I do plan to add several Wobblers to the collection... We (the family) actually started out with Mystery Minis. I used them as rewards for my 2 sons for things like good grades, scout achievements, making plays on their baseball teams, etc. I saw the Sci-Fi minis and Funko had me hook, line, and sinker. Sometime later, came the Pops, but that's another thread.

I started looking for Wacky Wobblers after attending FDO 6 in San Antonio (at Pete's). I saw his collection in person and that was it... Well played Funko, well played.

Like a lot of collectors, I like the ones that remind me of my childhood (70's & 80's). Also, I love the Freddys (who doesn't, right?). At some point, I'm going to track down the rest of the cereal monsters and the entire McDonalds collection... When I was a kid, we ate at McDonalds 2 or 3 times a year and I was usually with the neighbors when we went. The one automatic time every year, that my Mom took me was when we were leaving my grandparents house after Christmas. My grandparents lived near a McDonalds in Grand Prairie (TX) and when we would leave to head home, my Mom would stop to get us a drink and to get me the McDonalds coloring book calendar. I loved that calendar with all of the characters... This went on for years and these trips were great memories.

So, while it was Pete's collection that triggered the endorphins, it's the feeling of nostalgia that keeps me looking out for them.
I'm Trey :)

No need to be a complete convert Trey. Just glad you enjoy Wobblers. Heck, even I like PoP! I'm with you on the nostalgia factor with collecting Funko. Definitely the secret sauce that fuels the obsession. Great start on your Wobblers. Freddys are awesome. Though, I'm particularly fond of that Fruit Brute.

You even have the Bobble Breeze Freddy. Just in case you didn't know, he's from Fundays 5 in 2007 and is usually referred to as Tiki Freddy; he was an LE 96. And in case some don't know, the Bobble Breeze is an air freshener as well as a mini bobblehead. It has a slot in the back of the base where an air freshener chip would be placed. Hmmm....I think I feel another post coming on.

Well, Trey's post got me going a little on Bobble Breezes, so since I seem to be in full reminiscent mode, let's talk about Bobble Breezes for a moment--they're at least mini WOBBLERS :D

After I completed my obsession with Spastik and rounded up enough Peek-a-boo Pop Ups to make me happy, I went a little nuts over trying to track down all the Bobble Breezes. In case you didn't know, this is a Bobble Breeze...

I really liked the card art as well as the wobbler. And when I only had a few of them, they were pretty easy to display.

But when you have over 25 of them, you need a pretty big space dedicated to them like in Jim's museum. Well, I didn't have that kind of space, so I made a very hard decision...I busted almost all of them out their bubble packs so I could display them together.

I kept several of the cards for background art and I left the 4 pieces that were never produced in their bubble packs.

The Taz without the base is a hand-painted proto (now this I can properly thank Bear for )

These are the 4 Breezes that never went into full production...

And these are the scent chips; each Breeze came with an individual chip, but Funko thought of everything with this refill pack.

Okay, I think I'm posted out. Hope you enjoy. \:D/

Thanks Scotty, Pete, Baxter, and Mickey.

And thanks for posting about the Bobble Breezes, Scotty... I wish they were still around. I love the pics, too! =D>

Very nice Finks, Erick. The Rat Fink collection is definitely one of the cooler Wobbler sets. Soooo many colorways.
