Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
Has anyone else's Gamestop started doing this? I went today and they had taken all the minis they had including Horror and Sci-fi series 2 and taken them out of the boxes and put them in little bags. It was pretty awesome since I could just look for the figures I wanted to buy, instead of potentially getting one I didn't want or getting a double. I was finally able to get Shaun and Ed which were the two ones from the Horror series I wanted the most. I also got Bender and Doc Brown, who was the one I wanted the most out of the Sci-fi series and thought I was never going to get lucky enough to get since he was a 1/24.

I haven't noticed that at my GS, but I'll have to double check now. Maybe they're hoping it will help move stock?

not the bag part but the couple near me always have a few on the register and I finally asked why and it's a swapping thing the employees started doing. so you open one and don't like it they'll let you swap it out for a register one. got myself the Harlequin Demon that way

Mine takes a few out of the box. They had about 9 fallout ones on the register. I asked about them and they were the managers. She buys them and opens them and "boosts" the sales. I must say it does work at my local store. They have way more minis now than ever before

Re: Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
I've seen two versions of this; the first was a store in the Mall that had one figure from each series kinda 'bound' to the display box, and if you wanted to trade what you bought for that figure, you could... no question, no mention of rarity etc. Pretty cool gesture, and the store still gets a sale.
The other I saw recently, they had ripped open the boxes, labeled the figure on the back (or in some cases rubber-banded them to the outside of the box) and stuck a Gamestop label back over the lid, so you knew EXACTLY what was inside every single box in every series. Turned around and walked out of that store after I saw that, went back a couple weeks later and surprise surprise, their Sci-Fi series 2 case had nothing but 2 Kirks and 6 Cylons.

I would love if they took the all out and let me buy what I wanted. Or even if they marked it on the back of the box. Only downfall is for the store, because then they are stuck with ones nobody wants. But that's on the store, not the customer

problem is it does end up on the customer because if they don't move the product they never get a restock.

My store just orders new cases. They have 3 fallout ones (due to fallout 4 I'm sure) and have gotten 2 of the horror ones. They even ask me if I want them to order me a case. All stores are different though of course

the way it usually works is they have no control. they get stuff sent directly from the distribution centers so if they are showing a stock of a particular SKU they don't get flagged for a refill. smaller stores might be a bit different and have a little more control over their stock though.

Re: Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
Why would they do this? Employees can just take all the rare ones right off the bat and the customer has no chance of getting that exclusive or chase figure. This seems odd to me but would be nice if you only needed a common or two to complete a set.

Re: Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
have a handful of gamestops near me. half does the open to trade and half doesn't. Haven't seen any that have the minis in bags to purchase. I like the open to trade policy, I still get the excitement of opening a blind box, but if I get something I don't like - I can still have an out to switch it with something else. This lets me buy more without hesitating.

some of us don't want a dang mystery, we just want the figure we want without having to wade through doubles of crap we never wanted in the first place.

Yeah, I can see some benefits but my Spidey sense tells me this benefits the employees' Paypal accounts more than their customers.

Re: Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
I keep trying to think of a way to get a case for wholesale... If only I had a friend who owned a store . I really have a hard time spending money on the minis in the blind box because I only really want one or two out of a series, even though the mystery is a bit fun. So I usually end up on eBay for the few I want (usually GITD variants)

Re: Gamestop taking minis out of boxes
I would like this as long as the GS employees weren't taking the rare ones for themselves. I agree it would be nice to know which one I was getting so I could get the ones I wanted/needed.
