Star Wars Mystery Minis: Toy Fair Reveal!

Great things come in mysterious miniature or pint sized packages, but which great thing will it be? It's all a mystery until you open one. Then the fun begins.

The manager claimed there was a memo that went out that said not to sell them until what I would assume is Force Friday. Apparently the ones that were already sold were done so incorrectly. Hopefully this means that there will be multiple cases available at all Hot Topics and the prices of those exclusives will more than likely come down quite a bit.

Can anyone with some inside knowledge back this up so I can stop the hunt for the Hot Topics until next month? Thanks!

I got 2 cases last week and there wasn't a problem. Also, they are for sale online, so it seems strange they wouldn't sell them in store.

'Tis the season. We're lining up for another Force Friday where retailers will be kept in the dark and who knows what will drop. I'm betting HT is sitting on other product with a Force Friday street date that they got confused with.

I've not ordered from them before... Does HT generally just send you a new case if you buy 12 minis online?

Has anyone seen the Walmart exclusives yet or do you think they're waiting for 9/1?

My guess is they're waiting for 9/1. Same with the new 3 packs that haven't hit their shelves yet.

Haven't seen any pop up on eBay, which is probably the only way I'll see them since Walmart is super hit-or-miss (and usually more the miss) around here.

I am optimistic about Walmart with this release. It's Star Wars, and they know as well as anyone that Star Wars sells. They were willing to order absurd quantities of the X-Men minis, which shows that they will carry a lot of something if they believe people will purchase it.

Just opened a fresh case from Hot Topic. Unfortunately, even though it was sealed, there was no letter sticker on the outside of the shipping box ](*,) . Made it a little more challenging ... but the contents were Greedo, Hammerhead and Snaggletooth. So the combination you have listed is correct, I just can't confirm if it's Box A or Box B :-k

Yeah my Walmarts have been getting worse and worse with the minis. Sounds like I'll be keeping a really close eye on them on 9/1, if someone buys the case before I can I may never see them again

The only "special" Obi-Wan is the Walmart Ghost Obi-Wan. The other Obi-Wan is the regular release version - the one that you likely have.

GameStop exclusives are Stormtrooper Han (1/24), Stormtrooper Luke (1/36), and repose Vader (1/72). The Shadow Stormtrooper is not a true exclusive, but it's only available in the GameStop and regular release cases. Hot Topic and Walmart cases will not contain the Shadow Stormtrooper.

I thought because it was 1/36 it might be special too. Thanks for the response!

They're usually on the shipping box and not on the PDQ itself if I'm not mistaken. But I could definitely have it backwards. 8-[

Didn't find a D case, but got super lucky ordering online. Also purchased the gamestop Vader on eBay. Spent far too much on trying to find him. Was actually cheaper just to buy him.

I just picked up a full case of GS.. I haven't gotten around to opening it yet though; is there any point to me posting weights of everything before I open? Will that help others out?

Hammerhead

Tarkin
C-3PO (x2)
Ponda Baba
Chewie

The dupe 3PO is fine because I'll likely repaint it into another droid or maybe just dirty 3PO from AOTC. The quality is outstanding with this set - no loose springs and the heads sit low enough. I only had one 3PO with a head slightly askew, but I turned it back into position. Paint jobs are also very clean.

I'll probably buy some more if I can find them, since I still really want a Leia and she's super common. Dupes of most of the aliens and the troopers wouldn't hurt. Even with the $1 increase, I think they're well worth it as mystery vinyls go and the bases help in that regard.

I like that repaint idea ... I'm gonna steal it if you don't mind =D>

Absolutely. My plan is to repaint several dupes if I get dupes of these.

Snaggletooth - vintage red and blue versions.
C-3PO - dirty AOTC, TC-14, K-3PO, etc
Tarkin - Thrawn (white over grey will be a pain)
Stormtrooper - Stormtrooper Commander (though less likely, as I'll want to army build this one)

I was hoping for the HT Vader, but today I snagged the GameStop version in the wild, so I think I will say that I'm all set on Vader minis at this point. Very happy.

Congrats! Wish I had that luck. Instead I have 3 Leias, 3 C-3PO, 2 Chewbaccas, etc.lol I did just work a trade out for a GS Vader though. Took 4 of mine though, but better than blindly buying boxes at this point.

Very cool idea... quick OT question though, what sort of paint would you use? I wouldn't mind doing a different protocol droid at some point and the idea of doing a custom Thrawn is very tempting too...

I paint miniatures and stuff for tabletop wargames, like Warhammer 40k and WarmaHordes, so I have tons of experience with painting figures. I use the standard water-based acrylic paints, with a primer first. Then varnish for protection. It's way more detailed than that, but that the basics.

I stopped by a Walmart this morning and was surprised to find these out on the shelf. I hadn't expected to see them before Force Friday. I was lucky and it was the case with the 1/72 GITD Obi-Wan. This case had a 1/24 Darth Vader and a duplicate 1/8 regular Obi-Wan as the other two rare slots.

Good luck! I know Lego minifigures are much harder to paint, so I'm sure you'll do fine.
