Thanks for your post. I found a fresh case at Books-a-Million with a 104.9 box, so I was able to nab a Hulkbuster. “Four down, 17 to go,” I sighed.

You were able to find someone that would do that trade? I'm ultra jealous, if so.

Also based on at least one of the posts here, it seems like Doctor Strange — the other 1/72 character — is in a case assortment that contains Cull.
If my math is correct, there are six possible case assortments. If the ratio is in fact wrong, Cull appears in three of them. Strange appears in one of them.
Since Cull has a very specific weight, it should be easy to narrow down which cases might contain Strange. My question for those of you who’ve found Strange: Do you remember which box position he was in?

Well, shoot. That is pretty much the exact opposite of the answer I was hoping for.

He's not wrong assortment wise: due to the ratios there are only certain combinations possible (e.g. the 1/72 is always in a case with a 1/24).

So can't you just give the Hot Topic a big "screw you" by buying them, taking them outside, and then weighing them their, then returning them if you don't want them?
nightschwing wrote:Okay, I’m gonna math a little bit more because I’m home sick on a Saturday night, and my melatonin hasn’t kicked in yet.
Presuming that the Hulkbuster and Cull Obsidian ratios are flipped, and using a combination of information from here and YouTube plus logic, here are the six possible case assortments:
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Cull Obsidian (1/24)
1x Doctor Strange (1/72)
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Black Panther (1/24)
1x Hulkbuster (1/72)
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Cull Obsidian (1/24)
1x Outrider (1/36)
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Black Panther (1/24)
1x Outrider (1/36)
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Cull Obsidian (1/24)
1x Spider-man (1/36)
2x Thanos, Thor, Iron Man, Ebony Maw
1x Gamora, Hulk
1x Black Panther (1/24)
1x Spider-man (1/36)
Weight-wise Iron Man, Ebony Maw and Black Panther seem to average 46-50. Not sure about Spider-man, but without a cape or a weapon or long hair, he’s probably in that group. Thor, Gamora, Hulk and Doctor Strange float between 52-56. Thanos is mid-to-upper 60s. Outrider is low-to-mid 70s. Cull is mid 80s. Hulkbuster is mid 100s.
For those of us with scales, if you find a full case with one box in the mid 80s (Cull) and one box in the low-to-mid 70s (Outrider), that’s not a Doctor Strange case.
If you find a full case with one box in the mid 80s (Cull) and no other boxes above the mid 50s, that might be a Doctor Strange case.
It hinges on Spidey’s weight. If Spidey can be lumped in with Iron Man, Ebony Maw and Black Panther, then you’ll find Doctor Strange in a case with one box in the mid 80s (Cull), two boxes in the mid-to-upper 60s (Thanos x2), four boxes at 46-50 (Iron Man x2 and Ebony Maw x2), and five boxes at 52-56 (Thor x2, Gamora, Hulk and Doctor Strange).
That so many characters hover around the same weight is annoying, but I’d rather be on the lookout for a particular case where I only need to buy five boxes (or less) to hopefully pull a Doctor Strange than buy every 52-56 box I come across.
Good night.

I don't think Hot Topic allows returns on mystery minis unless they are broken.

Hey, if math helps me spend $6 at a store instead of $70 on eBay, then I’m gonna math my a** off.
Mystlurker wrote:FunkoMeansFun wrote:What is the thing with weights of certain ones? Is there a thread here letting collectors know? Is it Ok to weight them? How do collectors feel about that?.
Some people feel its cheating, other's won't buy any without weighing. For the sets where everything is 1/12 I think its OK to go without, but given the crazy amount of 1/6 published lately its hard to argue that its unfair to use a scale. Leave the 1/6 for the non-collectors wanting a trinket, let the collectors get the sets with scales.

Yeah, about that...
I just found a fresh case with a definite Cull Obsidian at Barnes & Noble, so I weighed everything to try to find Doctor Strange. The 1/6 characters all seemed to be side-by-side. Same with Gamora and Hulk. This left Cull and the box beside him, which weighed 47.2. I took a chance and got Black Panther. Which is weird if Cull is actually 1/24, right? I can’t think of a scenario where a case’s two chase slots should both be 1/24 characters. I think Funko messed this up.
I wonder why Spidey weighs that much.
