She was beyond apologetic and reassured me that she would personally handle the matter. She insisted it is not HT policy to open or sale open Blind Boxes for any reason. All are to be sold in their original factory sealed packages. She asked for further details that I was happy and able to provide. I am honestly just happy that she cared enough to contact me personally and not send an email response. All in all I accomplished my goal which is simply protecting US buyers and collectors of Funko. And she offered me a HT gift card for the trouble which I gladly accepted

Wow that's great! Was there an email address you sent the information to? I feel like I want to report my local store so I am able to go into my local HT and purchase unopened items from there that are not picked over by employees :evil:

I had the same experience, Jandkstuff, with a Hot Topic in Denver this week.

I went there to try my luck at finding the Mystery Mini with the Hot Topic exclusive dragon, and every single box had been opened and taped shut! Every single one, about a dozen boxes. This is what happens when you put rare exclusives in a store that pays minimum wage! I reported this to Funko, and just took your advice and wrote to Hot Topic as well. I specifically asked NOT to be given a gift card because I want them to know this report is true. (I should have snapped a picture).

Since this tampering with the merchandise is evidently something Hot Topic employees are doing in stores across the country, I feel like Hot Topic corporate needs to send a directive to its stores saying any employees who do this will be disciplined.

I also suggested that Funko should add a message to the side of its boxes, stating in large type that any box found without Funko-branded shrinkwrap, or appearing to have been tampered with in any way, should not be purchased and the store should be reported to an 800 number. The shrinkwrap would have to be tiled with the Funko logo for that to work, though, since many stores have plain shrinkwrap machines on hand. And that would be an extra expense for Funko.

I got a reply from the regional director of Hot Topic (Colorado region). She responded as seriously as one could - she visited several of her stores, including the Pavilions location, and also sent a directive to the employees instructing them not to tamper with the Game of Thrones minis! I imagine word is spreading to other regions as well.

I'm glad to hear that Hot Topic is doing something about this. I sent a message to Funko about my local store as well, but I haven't been back there to see if they have changed their ways. I did find a Barnes & Noble that carries the GoT & Marvel minis that are cheaper and sealed. Of course that means no exclusives but I guess that's the trade off.

Hot topics online store currently has marvel and walking dead mystery minis up,you're sure to get them sealed coming from hot topic warehouse, just a heads up, I wish the had the GOT minis on the site but I think they don't have the supply that is demanded

But if you order them, you don't get to choose the ones you want using the layouts, and you might end up with duplicates and figures you didn't want. lol

Been lucky with B&N. Last week I pulled Jaime. Yesterday I got the GITD White Walker.

All i need now is Drogon. I am sure that will be a tough and long process.

Well I got my final two (khal and drogon) today to complete my set including hot topic exclusives. Despite finding multiple boxes in the 'rare' spot in stores they were always common so someone had shuffled them. I ended up using eBay a little bit. I may have a vinyl addiction ...

So far I've purchased six GoT figures. From four different cases.

Pull #1-Drogon! (front row, top layer, far right!)
Pull #2-Joffrey (same spot, different shuffled case)
Pull #3-Viserion and Rhaegal ( front row, top layer,far left and far right)
Pull #4-Ghost and Rhaegal dupe (top layer, third row, 3 across for Ghost, Rhaegal usual spot)

Pretty happy to have all three dragons after so few pulls.The first one was epic!

I've been pulling from the same case for about three weeks at a local 7/11.

So far:

John Snow x 2
Joffrey
Rhaegal x 2
Ned
White Walker
Ghost
Arya
Tyrion
Daenaerys
Viserion

Four others were purchased by others, so there are still 8 figures in the case.

I wish I knew what else was pulled.

I just want to thank Kaljor for posting that link to the case packout layouts; I was able to surgically collect a complete set from buying 1 case (Drogo), and finding unsullied cases at Hot Topic (Glow WW) and WalMart (Drogon & Jaime).

Really no fuss, no muss, and a LOT of luck stumbling across those particular cases at those particular times.

Nice work!! I can't seem to find any unsullied cases around here...doesn't help that I only have hobby stores to shop in. Still need Drogon and Drogo!

No, because the members who have posted are doing their due diligence by warning the community against something shady that affects or could affect us all. That's being a responsible Funatic.

Either the employees are doing it themselves, or they're allowing customers to tamper with the product and then selling it as new for full price. I don't know which is true, but I know which is more likely...and both practices suck. How many boxes that were tampered with still contained a Hot Topic exclusive or chase figure when they went back into the case?

Unfortunately this happens when you factor in greed to something collectible. The lure of turning an 8 dollar investment into 100 dollars or more is too great for some people to resist.

Besides, it's not slander if it's true. ;-)

Yeah I've bought 10 at hot topic and did not receive one single dupe. The rarest ones I got were daenareys (with Drogon) and Tyrion with scar. Happy that I didn't get any dupes but I ended up going to ebay to get the GITD WW and Khal Drogo. Didn't want to press my luck. Picked up Viserion and Rhaegal along with Joffrey as well. The last ones I need are the pesky rares (Jamie and Drogon).

Yeah on another thread I mention he was on the top layer, second row and furthest on the right. This particular box at 7-11 was untouched so I got lucky. There are other members here that posted layouts and I followed it and it worked perfectly. When I was checking out the lady was like "I knew somebody would like those." I think she was surprised somebody was finally buying one or something lol

Nice. Yeah I finally caved and bought Jaime last night to finally complete the set. I still need Daenerys with Rhaegal and Beyond the Wall Jon Snow. Don't know if I care to get those, the variants are so minor from the original that I feel that my set is complete w/o them. Still might pick em up for the right price though.

Lol yeah there are like 4 7-11's relatively close to where I live and that is the only one that carries any funko at all. They also had walking dead series 2 minis and MLP's that were both untouched. Didn't know the layout for WD or I may have picked up a rare. Saw a bloody carl but didn't pick him up, but sadly no grey wind =(.

Up in Canada we are basically limited to hobby shops and a few Chapters/HMV locations (that only have GOT and Walking Dead Pops)...so be thankful for your one 7-11!
