Common Pops that turned into Grails?

Postby PopPChulo » Thu May 03, 2018 12:12 am

Hey,

Have any of you ever gotten a Common Pop and it turned into a "Grail" completely unexpectedly?

If so, which one of the pops from your collection turned into a Grail?

I think this depends on your definition of grail. For me, I would say Iron Man from Iron Man 3. It’s not worth a whole lot but the way it was acquired means a whole lot to me.

I know that "Grail" is really open to interpretation. lol but to me - Grail either flies by two definitions - Either A) It jumped in value out of nowhere or B) Something that was "Blah" initially became "most beloved"

The Patriots 3-Pack jumped from $35 (retail) to $120 after they won the Superbowl in 2016. It never really dropped after that. It's one of my grails because Brady, Gronk, and Edelman are my faves, well especially Edelman!
Collecting since December 2015!! :freddy3:

Pops: 150
Mystery Minis: 73
Dorbz: 7
Plushies: 13

Pop Needs: SDCC Tony Stark, GITD Captain America, Green Chrome Batman, Masked Winter Soldier

Not sure if this counts but the Stranger Things bloody Steve from SDCC..it was a shared exclusive with HT and was pretty easily available at the time and even a while after the show..now its pretty "hot" and selling aftermarket for a bunch of dollhairs..glad I grabbed it when I did! Looking forward to the new Steve's to complete the trifecta!

This definitely counts. At the time that this dropped I don't think I was collecting stranger things but I have a ton of friends that talk about how this turned into a grail out of nowhere all the time. That's super dope that you got to get your hands on it! Keep Steve Safe! lol

A lot of old pieces that were very easy to get at the time are grails today. Biggie, 2Pac, MJ are some of my favorite commons.

True, I grabbed it too but ended up trading for it. Did not know it was going to skyrocket like it did.

Pete Puma from last year's SD Comic Con. No one was giving him the love that he deserved. Got it for dirt cheap a month after the Con and now he keeps going up in price. I'm so happy \:D/ I was able to get him for a very good price.

It's kind of mind boggling that those common peices became rare and highly coveted. Makes you wonder which peices from now will become that way.

Ditto. My only criteria are:

-They actually exist. No hoping that they get made one day.

-You have to put effort into getting them. If you don't want to buy one of the 20 on Ebay because you don't want to reward a flipper, then you're just cheap and lazy.

They don't have to cost a lot of money. My 'grail' is about 25 bucks if it ever comes available. Also, it is not a pop.

I bought Starfire for $12 (and used a $5 giftcard on it to get it down to $6) and now she's worth $60!

Some others would be Yondu and the OG Thanos, who aren't worth so much (around 30 each), but I see so many people going after them and they seem hard to find.

A more recent one would be battle Deku from HT. Was VERY available for a while and was sitting around on shelves for the longest time. Then he suddenly disappeared and the price jumped.

La Muerte went from like $10 to $100 after awhile with no interest inbetween. Wendigo from Hannibal jumped a bit. I am fully expecting Vito Corleone to be a grail, epic pop

I got the corleones as well. I didn't care whether they were going to become grails or not. La muerte did do a jump. I wasn't collecting at the time otherwise I'm sure I would have got it. I always go for pops with really unique looks.

Maaaan now that I really didn't see that one coming. I didn't really become a big fan of my hero academia until after the pop came out then when I went to get it.. it jumped 4 to 5 times the original value.

Both the Disney store and BN had clogged displays of Disney Princess lines. I remember the Disney store ended up putting them on clearance for five bucks. Now Belle jumps up and down in price around $100.

They are definitely grails and becoming even more increasingly difficult to find so I would most definitely agree with that.

I honestly didn't think they'd go up much. At the time I had only just started collecting and had noticed too much of a demand for them. But yeah, sitcom Pops tend to do really well.
