New 52 Wonder Woman paint job

Postby Betseygirl » Wed Feb 13, 2013 11:46 am

I went to my local comic book store this morning and they had all the new 52 exclusives :D
I got the Batman and a Wonder Woman for my friend, I would have gotten one for myself but....

Her paint job sucks...really. My comic store had eight of her and only one was decent. Either her stars were blotched or the paint on her boobs was layered poorly with gaps of paint and she also had smudges on her face. I hope my comic store just got a bad batch but I don't know.

I'm pretty sure you can only get these through an online site like entertainment earth and a few other ones, eBay, and your local comic book stores if they order through the Review Exclusive Magazine. I know what you mean, when my gf and I went yesterday we saw them but wasn't allowed to purchase them yet so we asked if we could reserve a set for ourselves for Tom. Looking through them I like good paint jobs and good boxes and it was extremely hard to even find one good paint job of the Batman. Also they are all repaints, I remember someone saying something about him have molded in his armor or muscles or something like that.

All the Batman's at my comic shop had fairly good paint jobs. I didn't bother to check super man. I'm hoping we found the only bad batches.

I just picked up my Wonder Woman and I'm happy with her. No flaws really. I'm sure it was just a bad batch, as I did check a few for examples

I really wish Funko would have better quality control. I get that these are mass produced but I've gotten other toys from other manufacturers without risking paint slop like these do. And given the simplified nature of these I have to imagine painting them is easier than what NECA or McFarlane does with their figures.

That's why I buy them from a store personally so I can pick out a good paint job! You can always paint over the smudge or buff the mark out!

Yeah i was looking for the some of the Beatles pop at my local Barnes and Nobles and they looked horrible. Every single one was pretty bad. I'll get photos next time I'm there. I am sure they will not be selling any time soon.

I totally agree with everything you said. I'm stunned that some of these have made it to stores. Funko really needs to reject more of these batches and require the paint vendor to redo the work. I really love the Pop line but the simplicity of the sculpts and designs really makes some of these paint jobs unacceptable.
Eaglemoss (out of the U.K.) created a line of hand painted lead figurines (painted in the Philippines) and sold them here via Diamond at a price point of $12 for Marvel figurines and $14 for DC figurines. We're not buying $250 Bowen statues (where paint quality expectations are very high) but even these $12 figurines had better paint jobs on much more detailed and complex sculpts.
Jack of Hearts as an example...

These figurines are about the same height or smaller than Pop (about 3 3/4" tall)

Here's one for you DC fans

I'm not promoting these other figurines... I'm just saying that I hope Funko holds the paint shots to a higher standard.
