Re: Your display, the Funko way!
Anyone have any plans for large sets of display shelves. I have drawn up some I am going to build, but I would love to see if anyone else has any tips. I will post my plans on here after I build mine in case it can help anyone else. I am just figuring out the small details like the edges of the shelves etc. Trying to decide how much of a gap is really needed. I don't want to waste space, but I don't want to make it so tight that they are hard to get in and out of the shelves. I am planning everything based on a Pop in a protector so I can mix in those without any issues. I should be able to fit about 108 per shelf set (12 shelves) if my math is correct. 3/4" Birch plywood on the sides. 1/2" on the shelves. Shelves will slide into notches so there isn't any mounting hardware to hit the box corners. The top shelf will be a larger space for Pop Rides, etc. 1/4" lauan plywood for the back. Will probably stain everything since using decent plywood. The only problem is that I'm going to need to build 8 of them for now
. At least by making them this size they can be moved around if needed, rather than build-ins.

It seems as if my room is always under construction because I'm always rearranging my display. I don't normally share my display, but I'm pretty happy with the work I've done here. I hope you guys enjoy my display as much as I do.

I think you're referring to the one in that exercise/work room. If so, yes--it is mostly Star Wars on the garage door. As new offerings come out some of the alternative themes presented will likely be relocated, which means there's actually ample room for expansion of the Star Wars theme. When the whole room itself is done, it will be mixed with Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers, and DC--plus or minus a little Clayburn Moore/Vampirella (maybe); we'll see where in house those will end up fitting in.

It think it's really interesting to see the evolution of Funko and collections over time. Some great and grand collections of the past have inspired many of us to display our own collections in innovative and intriguing ways. The sheer amount of attractive merchandise that Funko and others have developed has driven this. With many of our collections dynamically expanding (or in some cases bursting at the seams) forums like this help us to prioritize, organize, and manage our collections--especially in light of our individual considerations for space. We are constantly getting ideas and advice from each other.
Popsaysyee you are correct--it is becoming apparent that there are/must be other collections out there being conceived or in development that we have yet to see. Perhaps some of them are inspired by pics and information they receive here on this site.
Funko_Don wrote:Hi Funatics! My name is Don, and I’ve been collecting Funko for just over a year and a half... I quickly learned that this thing isn’t about collecting plastic and vinyl toys... This is about something bigger - it’s about...community....
I think this new poster has got it right. I don't think Funko is going away anytime soon--because Funko has hit on and reinforced something you would have thought some other enterprises would have figured out well before now. This phenomenon (which is exactly what Funko is) is based on a vision that started out certainly much smaller and humbly than it is today. From my observation, a powerful sense of "Community" is core and key to Funko's rise and advancement. Brian and the early contributors (including Frank Malone, Mike Becker, and those strong early fanatics/funatics) deserve an enormous amount of respect and recognition for being so passionate and creative in an arena that until relatively recently was largely under-developed. Like Funko_Don posted above, what has and is happening here is about a lot more than the molded plastic.
Standing on my soap box again, and at the risk of sounding like I'm making a pitch or doing an infomercial--I think we're all proud of our American heritage and even our crazy, mixed-up American "family"...as dysfunctional as it is and has been. Funko, I think, has managed to represent Americana (now and nostalgic) and other secular personalities and events in a way that is fun, non-threatening, popular, and mostly cost-effective and affordable. The end product appeals across age, gender, regional, socio-economic, educational, and other lines. I, like many of you, am proud to be connected to this larger Community.
As such, I can hardly wait to see what comes down the pike from Funko and other collectors with their acquisitions and displays. I'm a little selfish in posting my displays, in that I love seeing other people's ideas and displays, and like Popsaysyee said, maybe our posting will inspire/encourage others to do the same. I find that I have never "seen it all"; and just when I think "that's it", someone puts up something new and different that I hadn't seen or thought of before. I don't see that ending. Every poster, every presentation inspires me--no matter how large and grand, or how individual or small.
Well, there I go on another one of my rants. Still, it's stuff I wanted to say. Keep posting. Keep displaying...for me, please. I'm really enjoying this

Yes!! I can't wait to see what new collections arise from the shadows and what new ideas come to life from previous photos. That's one thing I love about these forums! It's basically everyone brainstorming about new Funko ideas and all the freshness is amazing. Being around creative people and even people who just appreciate the art really is awesome to me. So much inspiration in this thread. Can't wait to see more collections! Keep'em coming!
