I have two older Detolf cases (I display models in them) that have Ikea's old halogen lights, but now they only sell LED's. This is the one they suggest now:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90288342/
The older halogen is a lot brighter, but even that only lights the top shelf well. The shelves below it get progressively darker as you go down, especially if you have much displayed on them. The LED strips suggested by Kimchi in this thread are much, much more effective at lighting the cases.

My billy case. just 2 shelves of it
I originally vowed to not show my DC fanboy colors and keep Marvel and DC equal but yeah...
That didn't workout
I'm also running out of space so thinking about ditching the boxes and buying http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083R3DHO/ref=s9_wish_gw_d11_g469_i15?ie=UTF8&colid=2K2S9PHZ36DUV&coliid=I1CC6MKMA3IGTO&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-2&pf_rd_r=1B9XBCACPF6FETZ55TVZ&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2091268722&pf_rd_i=desktop
anybody use this in a billy? it's 12" wide but the billy is 14.125" wide on the inside.
Will the 2" lost prevent me from going 5 pops across?

Thanks for the reply! I guess I should consider those, where to find them!

Yes, all the shelves were done me. Just slicing up foam board at the right dimensions to get 5 rows per section. As you can see there's not much room for error, but after two attempts it came together just right.
Those lights are LED strips I got off amazon. Very inexpensive. I originally stuck them all on the backside of the units but it was too much on the eyes and casts too much of a shadow. Mounting them on the front side came out much better! The total cost, including the cases, came out just under 500.00. I couldn't think of a way to do it for less than that!
I'm considering swapping out the horizontal shelves for plexiglass. Buying a few huge sheets from Home Depot and putting my Dremel to work. The foam board is starting to warp a little at certain spots from the weight of the Pops. But that'll be a fall season project.
Thanks again...all these compliments made my day!
Here is that quote. Would be interested to find out which lights they are on Amazon.

I have to put some of the boxes away to make room for another shelf, so i thought i would share my Pop Vinyl wall.
It is a shame to have to pull the wall down, it looks so nice, but i need room for the actual Pops hahahaha

I do not know if these were the same ones Kimchi used, but these are the ones I used:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WQF ... ge_o06_s01
The same seller offers just one reel if you are only lighting one case. I was lighting two cases so bought the two reel setup. Each reel is 16.4', that's enough to wrap the bottom, top and both sides with some extra left over. You can cut an LED strip at every 3rd LED, there are cut lines shown on the strip. They are easy to cut with a pair of scissors.
And here is the transformer I used (one for each case):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DKS ... ge_o06_s02
That transformer is 36 watts. The LED strips are 1.5w/ foot, so about 25 watts per 16.4' strip. If you want to power more than one case off a single transformer you can certainly do that, just need to add up the watts and select a transformer that can handle it.
As far as installation goes, I assembled the cases first and then on the latch side of the case, I started my strip down in the corner and laid it across the bottom, then up one side, under the top, then down the other side. I pulled off about 12" of backing at a time and stretched the strip out straight, then pushed it down to adhere it to the surface and rubbed it down good with my fingertip. I did not push down on the LEDs but between them. When I got back down where I started I located the nearest cut line and cut the strip there with a pair of scissors. I took the wiring pigtail coming off the strip and zip tied it to the metal "wire" leg inside the case to keep pressure off the solder joints on the end of the strip, then ran the wire out through the gap between the door and the side of the case. I used small adhesive cable holders to keep the wiring firmly against the lower edge of the case as it runs back to the wall, then I located the transformer behind the case. There is no on/ off switch, so I installed a wireless remote controlled switch similar to this one to control the lights for both cases at once:

The installation is very, very simple and all plug-and-play. No soldering required. Let me know if y'all have any questions!
PS- for those that missed my posts a couple pages back here is one of my cases with the above LED strip installed:

And a closeup of how the light looks on the displayed Pops:

Thanks for the LED info treswright. Will definitely be using these once I get a display case. Hope to have pictures up in a few months. Did you end up doing plexiglass or are you sticking with foamcore?

Just seeing this now!
Here's the exact LED light I bought:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R ... ge_o02_s01
And the power adaptor:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006 ... ge_o02_s00
I went the route of buying them individually, as each case got completed.
I went back and forth on white vs black boarding and settled on white. But now that I'm about ready to fill in all the bottom sections, I may tint out the back glass panels. Would probably help the lighting become more intense.
I think a winter project will be me eventually replacing all the foam risers with plexiglass. Just pondering different ideas to try and make it as inexpensive as possible.
We'll see!

^ This is the main Display. My wife and I love HP (still waiting on Quidditch Harry). She is a True Blood fan and this was my attempt to get her into pops. And our SDCC Regina our prized possession right now.

^ This down on the way to my basement and a random assortment of my pops.

^ These are my only ones displayed at work.

This is my desk drawer at work where i keep most of my Doctor who collection and other various pops. This was back in the day when I hid Pops from my wife. Just haven't found time to bring home. And not sure i want to overrun my wife just yet.

Got some Ikea spice racks that I flipped upside down. Set me back $7 each (got 2). I was initially looking for some type of acrylic riser, but this will do just fine. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/40070185/

Thank you all

@thethrill909 unfortunately I have no idea where the shelving unit is originally from, it was pretty much just a lucky find from someone who was about to get rid of it!
