Common Pops that turned into Grails?

most things become grails because they are either overlooked and not enough demand for Funko to keep pumping them out. Once they dry up people seem to panic. Game of thrones sat and all those non exclusives from a couple series ago jumped up quite a bit.

Not sure if this counts but the Stranger Things bloody Steve from SDCC..it was a shared exclusive with HT and was pretty easily available at the time and even a while after the show..now its pretty "hot" and selling aftermarket for a bunch of dollhairs..glad I grabbed it when I did! Looking forward to the new Steve's to complete the trifecta!

This definitely counts. At the time that this dropped I don't think I was collecting stranger things but I have a ton of friends that talk about how this turned into a grail out of nowhere all the time. That's super dope that you got to get your hands on it! Keep Steve Safe!

Oh yeah I remember everyone was not into Steve until season 2 came out but I loved that Pop as soon as I saw it and had to have it! Can't wait to get the other Steve pops!

I got a common Glen from Walking Dead in his baseball hat for $3 on a clearance sale and it jumped up in price later. Still love it!

Maaaan now that I really didn't see that one coming. I didn't really become a big fan of my hero academia until after the pop came out then when I went to get it.. it jumped 4 to 5 times the original value.

I don't think ANY of us saw that coming. I think there were quite a few people who thought Deku would continue sitting on the HT shelves for a good while longer and waited to buy one. Now they might be regretting it.

Ace Ventura for me. I loved the movies when I was younger and picked it up for $10 at a comic shop.

I was going to say the exact same thing! Battle Deku went crazy after season 2 released and just never let up and they had so many at our HT, they even sat for a while and considered getting extras for friends, but then my friends all got theirs and now we’re all just reveling in the fact that he snuck into our top 10s hahaha

My first pops I picked up were the riddler, penguin and the joker. i just got back into pops in 2015 and saw how much riddler and penguin were and didn't expect their value to be that much just because i was away/unaware of the pop game. i just picked them up at the time cuz i liked them. Meow I'm here, 1300+ pops later :P

I hate how lost the definition of 'grail' has become.
To me, it is the ONE pop that your collection would not be complete without, and typically not one that is easily obtained (in keeping with the original idea of 'The Holy Grail').

For me it was the Chase Joker 06, and when i got him I felt like I could stop collecting today and I'd be happy.

Of course I didn't stop and there are others out there i still want, but i have my 'Grail'.

This happens alot with certain TV series that have a major following. I vaguely remember seeing The Simpsons, Big Bang Theory POPs back then. Since most have expired licenses, pretty pricey to claim. Seeing it now...

Battle deku is a great recent pop that just blow up out of nowhere I remember going to my hot Topic and getting 2 easy

The trio of Count Chocula, Frankenberry and Boo Berry Pops have always been my favorite. Any time Funko released anything cereal monster related, I just had to pick it up.

True, I grabbed it too but ended up trading for it. Did not know it was going to skyrocket like it did.

That is very true! I normally just end up getting what I like at the moment. Stranger Things was big and I thought Steve looked cool with the bat. Just never thought he would blow up the way he did

I also have Boo! Paid around $60 for her about a year ago, but boy has she shot up in price. One of my faves in my collection

Golden Frieza from the 2015 summer convention exclusive. That pop was so abundant when I got him, and over shadowed by the highly sought after Crystal Blue Heisenberg.
But now he’s regularly going for over $100 and valued higher than Heisenberg. Whaaaat?

Pete Puma from last year's SD Comic Con. No one was giving him the love that he deserved. Got it for dirt cheap a month after the Con and now he keeps going up in price. I'm so happy I was able to get him for a very good price.

I was able to snag him for $40 after the con and I didn't realize how much he had spiked up until I saw someone mention it in another thread.

La Muerte went from like $10 to $100 after awhile with no interest inbetween. Wendigo from Hannibal jumped a bit. I am fully expecting Vito Corleone to be a grail, epic pop

I don't think it happens much anymore since production numbers of pops in the last year have been high to meet the demand of the product becoming mainstream.

Older Commons have mostly ended up skyrocketing in value just for the sheer fact that they didn't make as much back then. Since they haven't produced another version, recent collectors are willing to pay for these grail.

Many Commons I opened and let kids play with them.... Only to have them skyrocket in value a year later, haha.

I got the Star Trek: The Next Generation pops for around $5 each a few years ago because I am a fan of the show. Over the past few months, they have been steadily rising in value. It's not a huge change, but Picard for example is up to $25...

I saw a bunch of BBT at my local B&N but passed them up due to not caring about Pop back then. Same goes for Leonidas when I saw him at a local comic shop for 10 bucks. I eventually pulled a trigger on Leonidas and got him for like $190. Also, passed on PA Vegeta when he was going for like $80-$100 because of the same reason =))

Geoffrey the Giraffe. Not really a "common" since it was obviously a Toys R US exclusive, but once the company announced bankruptcy, prices skyrocketed when they were trending around $25. At least at the time I was looking. Now that it has become nostalgia piece, people suddenly had to have it.
